You'd think if they'd agreed contracts with them, the club would have announced it by now?

I see Pedro and Willian have just signed short term deals for Chelsea and then Pedro will go to Roma and Willian elsewhere.
Apparently there are players with integrity but not at Burnley.

Re: Hendrick set to leave
To say every window the manager and board use the same clichés of "we sign the right characters for the squad" we seem to have gauged it rather wrong and ended up with several mercenaries.northeastclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 10:03 amI see Pedro and Willian have just signed short term deals for Chelsea and then Pedro will go to Roma and Willian elsewhere.

Re: Hendrick set to leave
Who are the 'several mercenaries' we have signed?
Re: Hendrick set to leave
Listening to the manager's latest press conference, it is very clear that he put his requests to the chairman and the associated club officer/s and the chairman took a very different set of decisions. This included being very late to discuss even short term contracts.
This was a cause of discussion and disquiet, in the squad, as they were concerned for colleagues.
Chairman and his advisers seem to be as equipped as Johnson, in this instance. Dropped the ball chairman!
The short numbers on the bench appears to have been affected by the ability to test the young players.

Re: Hendrick set to leave
It seems to me that the only player who has left that the Chairman wanted to re-sign is Hendrick if it is true Bardsley has re-signed. If that is true and it is for 1 year when Bards was after two years, then I think the Chairman has done well for the Club. Personally Bards looks good for another 2 years to 37 but there are few Graham Alexanders around so if true, one year is sensible in the present climate

Not bothered when it was Tony, so long as both Hendrick and Bardsley sign new deals. It gives us two very decent players to get us through next season, by when the board will be better able to assess the Covid 19 situation and it's effect on the club.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 11:07 amThat was yesterday when Nixon tweeted that - and Hendrick was in talks yesterday
Hopefully we will also keep Sean and sign a couple of decent players in the window as well, (Tripps for one.) but we can't expect the board to splash the cash with so much uncertainty about.

What I was saying was that it was yesterday's news and today's news is looking a lot different. There has been no speculation that Hendrick has signed a new deal.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 11:17 amNot bothered when it was Tony, so long as both Hendrick and Bardsley sign new deals. What's this then if not speculation? OK, it's an offer, not a signature but why would we make an offer unless there was a chance of it being accepted?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 11:21 amThere has been no speculation that Hendrick has signed a new deal.

Why would we offer him anything when we have had people tell us he has signed for Celtic you could also ask. Unless of course it was lazy speculation repeated until it became gospel

Re: Hendrick set to leave
Celtic and the tedium of the SPL, or Newcastle and the tedium of a mid-table slog, Hendrick's hardly awash with offers is he, if he goes he goes, TBH i'm sick of hearing about these protracted talks now, either sign or don't just make a bloody decision man.
If he goes to Celtic then it's not for the money. all the talk up here is how they're trimming wages of existing players, so i sincerely doubt Neil Lennon will bring in a lad on big money in such a scenario. Especially a journeyman like Hendrick.

Think Hendrick's got enough about him these days to be one of the best players in that league. It's poxy up there these days.tiger76 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 11:41 amCeltic and the tedium of the SPL, or Newcastle and the tedium of a mid-table slog, Hendrick's hardly awash with offers is he, if he goes he goes, TBH i'm sick of hearing about these protracted talks now, either sign or don't just make a bloody decision man.

Re: Hendrick set to leave
Jeff will be one of the better players in the SPL, but let's be honest it's hardly a challenge, you get maybe half a dozen tough games a season, the carrot for him might be European football, but that's not a given, as both Old Firm teams could face tricky qualifying rounds prior to next season's tournament.
It's been dire up here for over 20 years now, even more so when Rangers plunged down the leagues, it became a walk in the park for Celtic, and despite this Stevie G still can't get his hands on silverware, he'll be on borrowed time come next term if Rangers don't buck their ideas up.

Re: Hendrick set to leave
Still no official news on either player.
Both are still under contract until end June.
The deadline for short term extensions, for this season, was yesterday.
Not sure how a 'new long term' contract stands up. I you are under contract until 30 June and your new deal starts 1 July, what is the issue?

Of course he has but none of the players who are going to sign for another club are interested in helping us out unlike Pedro and William. No goodwill or integrity there after getting full wages for three months for doing nothing, but when the club needs them to help out because of our injuries , just two fingers waived in our direction.
Re: Hendrick set to leave
I thought Hendrick had been offered a new contract already, and had been stalling on it? Is this a new contract offer with improved terms?

Re: Hendrick set to leave
So for arguments sake, say we offered him 30k a week and he wanted 50k over 3 years. Would you as the Chairman have sanctioned this? Or do you back the recruitment team to find a better quality player for that position who is younger in the 50k region?

Re: Hendrick set to leave
He's seen Scotty shine at Rangers, and realised how easy it is in SPL.
Celtic and Liverpool are the teams most Irish kids grew up supporting, although I don't know if Jeff falls into that bracket.
I hope he shines, and wish him nothing but the best. I'd like to have kept him, but a man has to do, what a man has to do.
He's leaving a hole, that will take money to fill, and we don't have a lot, so it's going to be a massive window now, and if the Board don't get it right I think SD will think he's taken us as far as he can.

I think we already probably have in brownhill. Now we just need to sign another right wing and then some young squad players who will improve over time.

Re: Hendrick set to leave
I would say so yes, £10 million + £1.3 Million per year seems pretty good value to say he has made 120 prem appearances for 9 goals. Would be much better value though if we signed him on a new contract because he would still be worth what we paid...
Re: Hendrick set to leave
ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 1:52 pmNothing - you have taken two totally separate comments out of context.
Ahh ok, I was confused, thought they were totally contrasting when I read them.
Re: Hendrick set to leave
He's been decent value.
Hes had a good 18 months you could say, but I wouldn't put him in the value off an Arfield, Jones, Boyd or Barton that left on a free.
Re: Hendrick set to leave
Well it would appear we had 5 players refusing to play. Unless of course Dyche refused to play them which is altogether a little more worrying. So yes, considering the club have paid them for 3 months to do nothing, I would have hoped the "right characters" would have chosen to play.

JH was OK and I'd have liked him to stay, but he had some real stinkers. I suppose they all do, but sometimes the game seemed to pass him by.
Onwards and upwards (hopefully)
The main downside is that we don't yet have a replacement.

Re: Hendrick set to leave
Hendrick served us well doing the dirty work and never really getting a settled position.
He isn't a Defour which some hoped he was but he had good energy and scored some vital goals.
I would say he is definitely a victim of circumstances being one of those players whose value was inflated at the start of the silly price war caused by Leeds and Ross McCormack.
Brady fits into the same category and perhaps these two without the seriously inflated price tags may have felt under less pressure to perform every game based on what we had to pay.
