I've scrolled down and I know them all. But I was extremely sad and mentioned it the other week that I was learning every capital city of the world. It comes up in pretty much every quiz.

I think of images and people to piece together the capital. Almost like a story. When you think of the country, you think of the person or thing in your head and it reminds you of the capital.

Yes you were the one i had in mind for a clean sweep, the tricky ones can be the newer countries, or the countries that have changed capitals, and i'm pretty sure there's a fair number of those.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 4:27 pmI've scrolled down and I know them all. I've been doing a lot of quizzing during lockdown, but I've been easing off the past couple of weeks, you can become quizzed out after a while, and the break helps you from becoming fatigued with them.

I know what you mean. I've got a few apps on my phone and most mornings I just do a few before I get out of bed. I think you have to enjoy them though. If it feels like a task/job, then the information won't sink in. It's best to quiz on things you enjoy and won't get tired of, and go from there.tiger76 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 4:43 pmYes you were the one i had in mind for a clean sweep, the tricky ones can be the newer countries, or the countries that have changed capitals, and i'm pretty sure there's a fair number of those.

It's a funny old place, 9th largest country in the world I believe, it's on the Caspian but yes you can't get anywhere else from the Caspian by sailing ocean going vessels, except the Russian River Waterway system allows water transport so not quite landlocked, so you can actually sail it from from several places. Worked on a project until August 2019 where large modules were built in Korea, plus several other smaller modules from European countries, mostly Italy. Set up transhipment bases in Finland and Bulgaria, modules arrived on ocean going vessels but had to take them off and place on specialty built river ships, which were built around the smallest bridge size on the Northern & Southern Russian waterway systems. The large modules had to be deigned and cut into 3 parts as they could not go on the river system as they were, reassembled in place west Kazakhstan, massive project and logistics were a nightmare. Engineered in the UK.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 4:57 pmWhen I see Kazakhstan I think... largest landlocked country in the world.

26 out of 26. I do quite a bit of quizzing, or did before Covid.

yes indeed, have been, beautiful city but mostly been in Atyrau, which is not a beautiful city yet it is where they have a bridge that is the gateway between Asia and Europe according to the locals. I really thought the choice of answers were wrong, doh

It must be a bit confusing if you are an inhabitant of the Kazakhstan capital, Nur-Sultan: it has a complicated history:
1830 founded as a Cossak fort called Akmoly
1832 changed its name to Akmolinsk, when it was recognised as a town
1961 changed its name to Tselinograd
1992 became Akmola
1997 became capital replacing Almaty
1998 changed its name to Astana
2019 changed its name to Nur-Sultan.
