Re: tonight's games
wasn't long ago howe was being touted as next england manager, or getting one of the prestigious premier league clubs.
I think he still might one day. his abilities nor those of others with limited budgets cannot be dismissed simply because of a poor season. sadly though the media usually end up portraying coaches like these as duds when it suits. all this nonsense about "when their stock is high" is just meaningless.

Re: tonight's games
Good question Gary Neville raised an interesting aspect last night during the Man U game, the teams that approached lockdown in a positive mindset, and the resulting restart in the same manner, have fared far better than the teams that moaned and looked for excuses to get the season null and voided.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 8:15 pmIs this the worst bottom 5 in PL history?
As pointed out by ecc, earlier, since lockdown their collective effort is 0-3-12 with WHU to come.
You do have to wonder about how geared up for these games the bottom clubs are, Brighton apart they've looked as if they can't be bothered, which given their plights is bizarre, you'd expect them to be fighting tooth and nail for every ball, but on countless occasions today Newcastle just waltzed through the non-existent Bournemouth midfield without a challenge being made, that's unacceptable in any game, but in a must win game is completely i doubt Newcastle have experienced an easier 90 minutes all season.

Re: tonight's games
People forget that clubs near the bottom are there for a reason, because they’ve been poor. The upturn in form normally comes from backing from the crowds. Without that encouragement as Gary Neville said they are more reluctant to play a risky pass and pass more and more side to side. We will benefit from this as we rarely take to many risks in games and the fact that we’re safe (and only really needed 1 win during the lockdown) has help.
One thing that is annoying me is why aren't managers making subs before half time. You’d have thought they’d take advantage of that.

He is made to look good when playing alongside Chris mepham who carries out a Ben mee role.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 7:17 pmcan someone explain to me the hype around Nathan Ake ?
If mepham is injured or dropped the thing falls apart a bit. Today just summed that up. With Ake and mepham - won 1-0. Without lost 4-0.
Meanwhile Chelsea v West ham is ******* ****. I enjoyed the drinks break though.

West Ham one up.
Oh, disallowed after about three and a half mins.
That's a crazy decision. If it takes that long, then it should be given. Talk about marginal.

Antonio has to be offside and interfering with azpilicueta. He stops him getting his block in.

They need to do away with VAR. Imagine that if there had been a crowd in. They would have gone bonkers.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 8:58 pmThey really need to stop letting idiots control VAR.
Re: tonight's games
Rightly disallowed in my view. Two tests. First, was Antonio in an offside position? Yes. Second, was he interfering? Yes, he has to be in that position. Didn't need to take Moss so long to make his decision though.

I judge FARce by the ‘would I be furious’ with an overturned decision. In that case, Yes, I’d be chuffing well annoyed.

So that gives Burnley a net annual spend of £15 million, not the £9 million that Sean suggested?huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 8:58 pmHere you go. I hope I’m not putting anybody's nose out of place by giving Dave's twitter Page a nod but it is worth a look.

rightly disallowed but I made that decision within 5 seconds and from first view sitting 10ft away on my couch with my feet up having a brew, I didn't spend 3 minutes drawing lines - it's abject **** poor and pathetic how it takes so long

From our point of view it’s probably best if it were Villa & West Ham to go down simply because they are the bigger clubs.box_of_frogs wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 9:21 pmI for one hope the Hammers stay up. Purely for ease of getting there next season (Covid allowing).

West Ham at least appear to be showing a bit of fight, which should be enough given how poor their rivals are. Tough game for us down there on Wednesday.
