Haven't seen the advert but it seems very, very plausible. The people of Burnley consitute a tiny minority of any prospective national client base. Nationals brands aren't concerned about hurting the feelings of us who frequent Turf Moor.

As you'll have noted with the spate of "thank you NHS" adverts and all that dross, adverts try to tap inot these emotions. They want to take the feeling of gratitude that you may have for the nurse who helped your elderly father when he was in hospital and attach that emotion with their brand. That's the emotional hook.

The emotional in this case (presuming the advert exists) is "feeling smug about not being a "racist" ". It's a powerful emotion - we've all seen those insufferable facebook posts of our friends who need to publicize their anti-racist credentials. It's a powerful emotion for advertizers so it's potentially very profitable.

If I were an advertizing exec I'd rubber stamp it. Ethically dubious doesn't come into it - I think it's an effective stategy.

"Racists", "gammons" etc - they're new "out group". These are to "liberals" what immigrants and foreigners are to the far right.

It's powerful stuff and if it sells washing powder then what the heck, eh?

I thought I heard Burnley mentioned, but it was the last line that caught my attention: "keep away from children". If only some of his predecessors in the light entertainment business had followed that advice.

Surely, if you are going to attribute a nasty washing powder ad to Burnley, right now, it would be White Tide!

Don't get me started. Paddy Mcguinness is stealing money with every breath he takes.

A human being who needs banning from everything.

He represents everything that is wrong with the celebrity life.

Talentless. He must know that though. His wife must know it.

I love how much he annoys you.

He’s a decent light entertainment tv host. Seems genuine. Fair play to him.
