Local cricket
Bad news for the clubs not being able to resume cricket at the minute but even worse news is local leagues won't be able to employ overseas professionals from next season.
Only premier leagues can employ overseas cricketers.
The Lancs league will try and secure premier league status I presume.
The Ribb league will probably just employ local players.

What’s the thinking for stopping overseas pros?

Re: Local cricket
Do they want even fewer people to watch local cricket? What a stupid rule.

Re: Local cricket
The reasons aren't out yet I don't think. But they probably think amateur cricket shouldn't be paying overseas players to play here.Red Fox Rocks Socks wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 9:19 pmWhat’s the thinking for stopping overseas pros?
That we have enough talent in this country?
Hopefully it gets rejected if enough fuss is made.

Re: Local cricket
I think it is one of those 'levelling the playing field' ideas that they come up with from time to time. So many clubs, especially down south, are struggling to keep playing let alone raise funds to pay a foreign professional. Therefore the one or two that can just keep winning everything. I would expect the Lancs League to be granted 'premier league status but this will result in them attracting the larger clubs in Lancashire that haven't yet been involved in amalgamation talks pressing harder to be allowed to join the LL.
Re: Local cricket
Does anyone actually go to watch the pro's now, like in the old days? They don't bring in any extra revenue, I bet some clubs would be happy to not have the hassle and expense of finding a pro every year.

Re: Local cricket
The pro's are still a cut above if not international standard.
Re: Local cricket
Yeah no doubt. It's good to watch them, particularly in the 20/20 matches when they cut loose. But at least half the crowd are just there for a few beers in the sun and couldn't care less who the pro is.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 10:37 pmThe pro's are still a cut above if not international standard.

Re: Local cricket
I don't know the rules and regs but I'm not sure the clubs could charge admission if they didn't have a paid member playing?

Whose rule is this? Government or Cricket Boards?Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 9:03 pmBad news for the clubs not being able to resume cricket at the minute but even worse news is local leagues won't be able to employ overseas professionals from next season.
