Great article!
Does anybody else think that JA has a resemblance in looks to Dwight?

Re: ARTICLE: Martin Dobson on Jimmy Adamson
Dobson quite reflective and philosophical in this interview, Adamson's 70s side was some team, near perfect and how we paid for that cup semi final defeat to Newcastle?

Been watching the Clarets since 67...The 72/73 and 73/74 side had some outstanding players and really was class...Best I’ve seen.

Re: ARTICLE: Martin Dobson on Jimmy Adamson
Dobson is the most complete, all round and polished Burnley player I have ever seen. I started watching just after Adamson retired, but I have heard nothing but praise about him. Amazing thing about Dobbo he joined on a free and came to us as a striker from Bolton I believe

Very interesting article , hopefully Dyche and Garlick will have a read
Re: ARTICLE: Martin Dobson on Jimmy Adamson
Dobbo mentions how Burnley players were encouraged to get the ball for our opponents after it had gone out of play etc.. This was often noted in march reports in the late sixties.
The idea would be laughed at now. Sports analysts would surely calculate the energy lost in doing this and how that would effect the game. Whether they would look at the psychological side of this - perhaps a feeling of moral superiority - I can't say. I'd be interested to know what they make of the idea.

An excellent article, thanks. Another fascinating insight into a part of our great club's past.

That is a good read, brought back a few memories.
As far as the Burnley players being encouraged to bring the back the ball for opponents I can only remember Ralph Coates doing this on a regular basis.

I remember Leighton James, often doing it, much later in his career with us. It also controls the pace of the restart! I always thought it was a good move and much better than today's activities.Hipper wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 9:03 amDobbo mentions how Burnley players were encouraged to get the ball for our opponents after it had gone out of play etc.. Re: ARTICLE: Martin Dobson on Jimmy Adamson
Marvellous article. Dobbo shows some real insight into the importance of relationships in a club. I was particularly impressed with this paragraph:
But the basic beliefs always had to be adhered to. And it revolved around discipline. Early on in my time at the club we were told that we must abide by the laws of the game and show neither dissent nor retaliation. We were told we were ambassadors of Burnley Football Club and, as such, had a responsibility to future generations. Even after being given offside away from home we would be encouraged to bring the ball back and place it for the kick. Both Jimmy and Harry knew what they were doing. It was explained that these little incidents would help us. The away fans would respond. Applaud us. If you like somebody are you going to shout obscenities?

Re: ARTICLE: Martin Dobson on Jimmy Adamson
It's hard to dislike an away team that behave like sportsmen... Arsenal take note.
