Re: Immense effort
Yes. Brilliant result and what a goal.
The perspective that was needed. City always beat us 5-0 and everything that went on along with the pre match interview and players not resigning made it feel far worse than it was.
Happy with that. Safe again and can push on.

Re: Immense effort
Thought the lads looked right up for it and very fit all considering.
Vydra impressed me again - he has been very strong since he got his chance, I’ll hold my hands up on that.
Westwood, Mee, Cork all solid. Brownhill was always busy and wanting to be involved, could have done better with a couple of chances he had to score but this is a perfect bedding in period for him. His role in the goal was crucial and will have done his confidence a lot of good.
Very satisfying!

Re: Immense effort
Felt like very much normal service. Performance and result as I would have expected in March. Running out of forwards but that is an injury issue not a contractual one.
Re: Immense effort
Brownhill came of age tonight and showed he has it in him at this level.
Watford played well (fighting for their lives they should do) but we were better ...

Brownhill looked a decent signing. Did lots of good stuff, including feeding Dwight in for the goal, and the stuff that didn’t come off looked like lack of familiarity. All sorted by next season.

Can't believe Watford were favourites at start of game
I know we've injuries but don't we always beat them?
Plus we've been better all season I'd say

Puzzled that several on the match thread thought McNeil wasn’t playing well. He covered every blade of grass always looked for the ball and looked for options. When you are the main playmaker you are bound to make the odd mistake or give it away now and again. He was deservedly man of the match !

Re: Immense effort
Pleased with the effort and result.hope jay is ok. We cant afford to lose any more players.
My biggest concern is can these 11 play every 3 days for 90 min for another 7 games without material damage being caused. Really hope they can and will be fine.

Brownhill was immense great ball to Dwight to set up the cross for Jay to bury
Re: Immense effort
Good point DP. Hopefully they can and hopefully we get a couple of the cricks back! It will be tough and hopefully we can see out the season with pride.

Re: Immense effort
Dug it our 2nd half, they were always going to improve, but we hung in there, and for all their pressure they created little from open play, set-pieces were always a worry, but we kept them at bay relatively comfortably after Jay's great finish, another assist for McNeil, and another clean sheet.
Pity Vydra couldn't bury that late chance, and even more Jay's injury, but we can definitely say were safe now, and we've bettered our points tally in all but one of our PL seasons, apart from the expected loss at City, and that's our only defeat in 9, we've amassed 18/27 points since the NYD defeat to Villa.
Great character more than anything else, once again we've shown that bouncebackability, which we've became famed for, hard to pick a MOM on that display they all played their part.
Hopefully shout the doubters up for a while now, and if that's an unhappy camp, then i'm a Dutchman.

Early spell from Watford in second half but other than that we were the better side. Really pleased with that performance.

Re: Immense effort
McNeil impacted the game, and he was a constant threat, Watford did keep him quiet for large periods of the 2nd half, but when he got his chance he delivered a perfect ball for the goal, that's what quality players do. Just hope we can keep hold of him for another year.clansman wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 8:06 pmPuzzled that several on the match thread thought McNeil wasn’t playing well. Re: Immense effort
I think it's more the off the pitch rumours, and the question marks over Sean's future, that's playing on people's minds, we were always going to lose at City, but it's all the noise as Sean would put it, that's been worrying. Hopefully tonight will settle everyone down, and we can push on and finish the season strongly, we could yet finish above Arsenal & Everton, which would be quite a coup.
Is that doubles over Bournemouth, Southampton & Watford now, and we could yet double up against Norwich & West Ham,,if you can pile the points up against the bottom half sides, you'll survive easily at this level, and we're past masters at this.

Re: Immense effort
To compete for 90 plus minutes in that heat (with only 1 substitution) and ending up with a clean sheet and winning the game was, indeed, an immense effort.
Well done to the lads for lifting everyone's spirits connected with the town and the club.
Watched the preview of the other match and had a wry smile when Jamie Redknapp described Arsenal as a club in complete disarray. Even more so when I saw the result.

Re: Immense effort
What i liked about Brownhill is he got himself into threatening areas, yes his finishing needs to improve, but he tries to make things happen, and that's encouraging, if you keep getting yourself in those areas, eventually you'll reap your rewards, as Jay showed with his goal, don't forget this was only his 2nd start, and he hasn't yet had a pre-season to bed in, so the fact that he showed willingness to get forwards is welcome to see.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 8:03 pmBrownhill looked a decent signing. Re: Immense effort
I haven't seen the post match interviews because they weren't shown on PICK, but as I said on another thread, I don't think Sean is going anywhere.
1. If he was, Bardsley wouldn't have signed.
2. That performance tonight, with that heat and only one sub used, spoke volumes about the comaraderie in the club.
Now can we get something at Palace? Hodgson always seems to get one over on us.
C'mon you 42 point PL Clarets

Decent Interview on sky with SD, dont know who interviewer was...but decent respectful questions and dare I say it a manager who seemed a little more at piece with himself.

Re: Immense effort
TV commentators were willing Watford to win all match long. Great to see that we gave them a big smack in the eye
Re: Immense effort
Yes the interviewer was very good. She asked really good probing questions but in the right manner. Pearson’s interview was strange and they are nearly becoming as entertaining as Gordon Strachans ‘s and Martin O’Neil’s.
Re: Immense effort
Said all along you couldn’t of asked for a better game come back to than Man City Away. We never win there and get battered recently and we end up chasing the ball around for 90 mins is as good of a fitness exercise as you can get, it was a free hit . I even think we would have more chance at Liverpool than at City. Especially now they have won the league

The performance epitomised everything about Burnley under Dyche. To lose this manager over a rift would be an utter disgrace by the chairman and directors. Hopefully we will see an improvement in relationships over the coming weeks.

Sorry, but we can't just give Sean everything he wants all the time. Sean manages the team side of things and the owners manage the finances of the whole club. Mike Garlick and his board have done a fantastic job during their tenure and I hope they continue to do so. Splashing cash on past it players is not the way to advance the club, it's the way to bankrupt it.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 9:26 amThe performance epitomised everything about Burnley under Dyche. Anyway, Sean suggested that the bust up (If there was one.) is now parked and I don't think he's going anywhere. The media are doing the best to stoke the embers of this situation but I think they will be wasting their time.

That’s if the rift is purely down to his transfer kitty and contracts.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 10:23 amSorry, but we can't just give Sean everything he wants all the time. Re: Immense effort
Precisely, he hasn'r confirmed he's leaving and that's because he's not. He's just keeping his cards close to his chest hoping it frightens the board into thinking he might.
Oh, and how many teams over the years have lost their way when the situation at their club is unclear? Quite a few, I can tell you. There wasn't a hint of that last night. All is well at BFC. Trust me, I've been watching them for 68 years.
