Re: Burnley v Watford - Player Ratings
Pope 6 - commanded his box well and good positioning but couldn’t catch today... rustiness me thinks.
Lowton 6 - did well but is clearly overweight he can barely move look at him.
Tarkowski 8 - one great tackle and did very well in the air against deeney
Mee 7 - got better as the game went on, first half he wasn’t quite sharp enough.
Taylor 8 - much better, another great performance and unlucky not to get an assist. Still not 100% fit but that will come.
Brownhill 7 - impressed second half and when he was involved in the goal you could see his confidence, buzzing around with much more energy. Hopefully going to turn out to be better than Jeff...
Westwood 8 - some great balls today, ran the game in what was a very defour like performance.
Cork 7 - good energy, won ball back well and pressed well. Always a little ponderous though.
McNeil 8 - worked his socks of and put in some great balls.
Jay 7 - good goal and got 2 offside goals. Overall a little quiet though.
Vydra 8 - worked hard and he’s rapid off the mark. Makes good runs all game and we need to find him more, unlucky hitting the post and then at the end getting a good shot of there was very impressive.
Pieters 7 - did well in an attacking position late on.
Overall a good performance. Stadium looked good with the banners and crowd was great.

Re: Burnley v Watford - Player Ratings
Just a thought, a couple of occasions when he didn't hold the ball, it had just been cleaned after it had gone out of play. I wondered whether that might have made it more difficult to hold on to.Iloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 8:42 pmPope 6 - commanded his box well and good positioning but couldn’t catch today... rustiness me thinks.

Yes hadn’t though of that. Disinfectants are actually very slippery once I come to think of it.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 8:45 pmJust a thought, a couple of occasions when he didn't hold the ball, it had just been cleaned after it had gone out of play. Similar. Vydra mom. Unlucky not to have at least one goal and kept running to the end.FCBurnley wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 8:50 pmPope 7

Brownhill - I wasn't too pd off with the finishing. Trying to make an impression. Can't fault the effort, but he's got to improve his distribution. He touched the ball several times leading up to the goal. All good save that none of the passes were the sort of quality you'd expect from (list every other player here). That's got to improve.

Re: Burnley v Watford - Player Ratings
In the heat, and only 3 days after the City game, that was a mighty effort.
Pope - 7 - a couple of fumbles but thought he still showed the presence to keep coming for balls and command his area.
Lowton - 8 - excellent in both attack and defence.
Taylor - 7 - a few tricky moments against the lively Sarr but coped well and got forward when he could to good effect
Tarkowski- 8 - couple of marvellous last ditch tackles and generally assured.
Mee - 8 - really committed and organised nights work.
Westwood - 7 - excellent first half, steady and diligent after it.
Cork - 8 - screened the back four terrifically but also got forward to great effect.
Brownhill - 7 - wasteful at times (had Hendrick been as wasteful thered have been brickbats flying) but still getting to know his teammates and the league, and he got himself into some really intelligent positions and produced a really sweet touch and pass to create the opportunity for the goal.
McNeil - 8 - good first half, quieter second, but a peach of a cross for the goal.
Rodriguez- 8 - his movement and assurance troubled Watford all night and it was a clever header for the winner. Hopefully his injury isnt too severe.
Vydra - 7 - really unlucky not to score in either half with some great running. Perhaps could have given us more of an outball when we were under pressure second half but hes growing into the team.
Pieters - 7 - did a handy job out of position.
The first half was excellent after a slow first 5 minutes and we should have led at the break. Second half was less impressive but our resilience was there for all to see and we took our moment when it arrived.
Any lingering doubts about getting sucked into the bottom end well and truly banished and we can now start planning for next season, and perhaps seeing what a couple of the fringe lads have to offer.

Re: Burnley v Watford - Player Ratings
Just to say I thought Brownhill is going to be a Burnley player and a better footballer. I will even defend him for trying stuff that did not work as as we would have liked.

Charlie Taylor MOM for me.
I watched Sarr rgive Chilwell a really difficult 90 mins the other night.
Charlie kept him very quite and Watford were thereby lacking options.

Re: Burnley v Watford - Player Ratings
Pope 7 - Would be 8 but for the two spills.
Lowton 7 - Best work came when the ball was at his feet.
Tarkowski 8* - Two goal saving moments.
Mee 7 - Better than last week.
Taylor 6 - Steady but wasn't at his best going forward.
Brownhill 7 - Defended well. No less than what Hendrick would offer.
Cork 6 - Looked a bit tired as the match went on but understandable in the conditions.
Westwood 7 - Vintage Westwood. Great ball into Jay in the first half.
McNeil 7 - Probably his worst performance in a claret shirt, but yet again proved to be the difference.
Rodriguez 8 - Always looked to have a goal in him.
Vydra 7 - So good to have a striker who has the ability to get in behind and control the ball in tight areas. All what was missing was a goal.

Notes on Brownhill:
Played a much more attacking role than Hendrick, making many runs into the box but wasted his chances somewhat. There was a decent spell in the game when much more threat came from our right hand side than left which is almost unheard of for the last two seasons. Defensively, time will tell if he’s up to standard but I feel encouraged.

Re: Burnley v Watford - Player Ratings
Pope 7- Kept a clean sheet, and didn't have a lot to do, but he was uncharacteristically shaky on a couple of crossed balls.
Lowton-7 i must admit i was one of those who thought Bardsley should take his place, but i'm happy to admit that he proved me, and many others wrong, solid when he needed to be.
Tarks 8- Deeney isn't the easiest to mark, and he'll struggle to have a quieter game this season, but that was due, to Tarks and
Mee 8- Inspiring interview after the City game, and totally bossed the Watford front-men the whole game, he also made sure he was in the right place whenever crosses came into our box.
Taylor 8- he linked up well with Dwight down the left as you'd expect, but he also didn't neglect his defensive duties, and earns an extra mark for the perfect tackle when Watford looked set to score.
Brownhill 7- he looks like he'll be a goal threat, and though he fluffed his lines on a couple of occasions, at least he's getting into the right positions, a run of games will help him acclimatise to the PL. played his part in the goal.
Westwood 7- strong showing in the 1st half, found it tougher in the 2nd, but he kept us ticking over.
Cork 7- like Westy started strongly, but tired later in the game, kept going for the 90 though, and tidy enough with the ball when he needed to be.
McNeil 8- Surprised so many thought he was poor yesterday, he was our main outlet, and his crossing was bang on the money, deservedly got his assist for Jay's goal. wasted a couple of set-pieces, but that's probably down to rustiness.
Vydra 7- a constant thorn in their side all evening, just a shame he couldn't grab a goal, but he looked sharp, and his movement gives us the option to play balls into the channels. Unlucky with his effort that came off the post in the 1st half, but he at least had the audacity to take it on.
Jay Rod 9- got the all important goal, and on another day could easily have had a hat-trick, besides the goal, he tested the keeper in the 1st half drawing a good save from Foster, and also had his goal-bound effort cleared off the line, and also had 2 rightly disallowed for offside, but his partnership with Vydra is improving by the game, and they'll cause teams problems with their movement, and clever runs in behind.
Pieters 7- solid as you'd expect in his brief cameo, but also produced a great ball moments after coming on, which could have led to another goal.
All-in-all a solid team performance, and we look comfortable at this level nowadays, especially facing the lower half sides.
