Re: Best Ever save by a Burnley Keeper
Harry Thomson not one saves but many, at the battle of Naples GOD IN A GREEN JERSEY!
Re: Best Ever save by a Burnley Keeper
The Napoli penalty hit the post. Harry didn't get a touch.
The best save by a mile is Heaton's from Austin.
I have yet to see Pope do a world class save. The 1st, 2nd and 5th at City were all saveable.

Thanks. I found a couple of things on YouTube today but sadly they were in Italian and were just a series of photos posted by Napoli. Better than nothing I guess

There is video somewhere of the Naples game - Harry pushes Altafini's penalty onto a post going to his right.
Some great saves from Tom in that highlights reel on previous page.

I was there that night... next days Headlines were " World class saves" though the cynics countered with " If he hadn't made a hash of things" in the first place he wouldn't have had to make em!!Im_not_Robbie_Blake wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 1:35 pmThe greatest double save of all time! Chris dived low to his left to make the first save and the ball went out of the area to another Bradford City player who wellied it into the opposite top corner - somehow Chris leaped up and high to his right to tip the ball over the bar at full stretch. It seemed that he had been granted the power of flight! Couldn't believe what I was seeing. He certainly danced that night. Lancs Evening Telegraph rated him an unprecedented '10' the following day's report.
....and Rocket Ron Futcher scored the winner if my memory serves me correctly.

Seem to remember Nick Pope making a great save away at Southampton in our European place acheiving season when we won 1-0 there.
Remember the shot being destined for the top corner on the far side and him making a full length save to turn it over.

Here's another cheeky one. Brian Laws at home v Blackpool I think? CT will know, but Stevenson had been sent off, and we were leading but hanging on. We were defending the Cricket Field Stand, and Laws leapt to his right to turn one away for a corner.

Re: Best Ever save by a Burnley Keeper
You are right that he doesn’t make many but a lot of that is down to positioning. He also uses his feet too much but he has made some stunning full stretch saves that many other keepers wouldn’t get near.
In his debut match he saved a 1 on 1 from Benteke where most expected the net to bulge.
World class is subjective but I’m more than happy to have him.

I would give my right arm to have a good a memory as some of you lot clearly have!
I barely remember a goalscorer by full time, let alone a save from decades ago.
How do you do it?

Re: Best Ever save by a Burnley Keeper
That wasn’t his best save though - the one from McAnearney at Hillsborough was just about the best of them for me. Then there was also the save to deny Uwe Seeler at the Turf.Rodleydave wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 3:26 pmYep Blacklaw versus Reims... I'd rate it higher than the Banks Mexico save. Or at least the very equal.

Don't remember the good saves, although I remember Alan Stevenson performance away at Grimsby in December 1982

Re: Best Ever save by a Burnley Keeper
I remember Stephenson making what to me looked like a world class save at the Cricket Field end in the 3-5 home defeat to Southend, and shouting out my appreciation only to watch the ball loop into the net to put them 0-2 up. Felt v foolish

True but to stop a point blank shot from ibra is impressive. I think heaton said he thought he dislocated his shoulder.

Re: Best Ever save by a Burnley Keeper
Can't comment on a number of the vintage saves mentioned here but obviously Heaton v Austin sticks in the mind.
Pope from point blank range v Salah at Anfield. He also made a great save with an outstretched leg in the home game v Palace when he subbed for Tom - which was a real statement of intent
Marlon Beresford's debut v Rotherham a string of good saves made me think - at last a proper 'keeper
In the championship winning season both Walker and Marriott were so good at that level they rarely needed to pull off worldies - they just consistently got themselves in the right place at the right time - far too good for that level
