How was it for you ?
How was it for you ?
Living in America I am used to watching all Clarets games on TV. So the current no fans rule does not really change my match day routine. However this got me wondering if Turf Moor regulars like or dislike watching from home ? Many I know have watched for decades and the current format must have come as a shock to the system

Dreadful.
I sat down to watch the game... and five minutes were left! I wrongly thought we were the late kick off. Worse of it is the mrs said Burnley are playing tonight! I Said yes, 20:15. She knew it was 18:00 but assumed she was wrong ffs

Re: How was it for you ?
I find it very difficult watching us on TV, it's something I've done more of this week than any time previous. But it is how it has to be and at least I'm getting to see them on tv.
The only plus, as I put in the report, is getting home earlier than I usually do.

Totally relaxing with the sound turned off and listening to vinyl with the volume turned up.
Clarets, wine, Earth, Wind and Fire and Stevie Wonder made for a smashing evening but I certainly do miss the 300 mile round trip and meeting up with mdd2 et al!

Massively missing the pre and after match drinks, socialising etc for the home games and missing the day out for away games.

Hated the city game but I actually hate going to City anyway, it’s just not a contest. Really enjoyed last night, sat with my family watching a big screen and we were all up and down all game.

The pre match meet up with those you don’t otherwise see is what makes it for me, and drinking into the evening after a win. Me and my mates haven’t seen each other since early March, looking forward to watching the game together when the rules allow

I thought this was about Spot the Ball Round 9, as for my answer live in Ireland but totally prefer live when I can.FCBurnley wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 4:32 pmLiving in America I am used to watching all Clarets games on TV. Watched on Pick and thought the timing responses were excellent. Watched a game the other day and they got the crowd noise reactions all wrong or were delayed. Bit weird watching without a crowd but strangely enjoyed it. Maybe think the crowd volume could have been louder though.

I expect they'll be missing a lot of trade when they reopen. Hopefully Burnley supporters will find other bars to drink in that are equally hospitable but who have a better attitude to staff than their dreadful owner.

Did he put them on furlough?
I seen the bit where he said he had no work for them so if they wanted to get another job to keep an income it was fine.
There are far worse firms out there.

He did furlough them, but only after 95 MPs intervened, and he realised that sacking them all might not be a good PR exercise for his brand.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 8:13 pmWhat did he do that has upset you so much?

His initial reaction / statement quite rightly provoked widespread condemnation.

If people do boycott it then the staff will lose their jobs. So they haven't really gained anything.

Re: How was it for you ?
Enjoyed the Watford match, just like a normal home game I tuned in 5 mins into the game. Normally we'd be walking from the culvert, this week I was going down the slide into the paddling pool with the baby. 2 year old watch some of the game with me between playing which was alien.
Didn't enjoy the city match at all, couldn't concentrate after the start.
I drove past Turf half hour before KO, it was not too dissimilar to home match. There were a fair few stewards, the road was closed at the Wellington and there were police horses out!!! Only saw two Clarets having a beer opposite Park View in shirts though....

I tend to agree with your first point, (though there are other chains), and of course you correctly identify the problem if people do boycott. His initial response was vile however, and shows what value he places on his workforce.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 11:16 pmAs soon as they want a cheap pint and brekky they will be back.

Re: How was it for you ?
Watched it at a friends and he'd put out a chair and table outside. opened up the double doors
and swiveled his huge tv round so I could get a good view. Beer and nimbles at hand.
So we socially distanced but I'm always a little nervous/tense when I watch the clarets.
Always dread the worst I'm afraid but relaxed quite a lot during the first half
and my mate said some good things about our play which also helped.
I did catch myself thinking at half time that we should be at least 1-0 up
and then in the second Watford, having made a couple of changes started
to come into the game to the point that they looked the more likely to score.
After about 20 or so mins of the second half I was beginning to get pretty nervous and
thought it might be a backs to the wall for th reemainder of the half - to try and salvage a point.
I even said to my mate that Watford would bring on Gray and he would score in the last minute.
And then of course a long ball up the middle which we eventually won
and Brownhill somehow got through with a ball to McNeil who did what he does best -
cross the ball in without actually beating their defender and Jayrod dived in with a beautiful
header and we were 1-0. Joy at that moment but tense for the rest hoping Watford wouldn't strike late.
At the end huge relief and joy too.

I don’t have a season ticket, so watch them on tv more than most on here anyway. But the season now has a strange feeling to it for me, like it doesn’t really count for some reason. Maybe it’s because we’re safe now and I can’t see us challenging for top 8

A lot carried on working and self employed, the others in construction don't get paid when they have a day off.
They don't have the luxury of salary.

That's a bigger issue, although if true I'm sure they will be in court very soon.
Re: How was it for you ?
The thing that irked me the most, and this demonstrates the most significant aspect of fan attendance, was the stealing of territory on throw-ins. I am increasingly like a panto goer at matches but watching this transgression of the laws happen, unchecked, is a vindication of my support and ability to influence the outcome of matches.
I don't think it's overstating things to say I have probably saved yards of stolen territory over the years. The refs just can't do it without us!

Re: How was it for you ?
I have been against the 'behind closed doors games' since the idea was first touted. However, I think the coverage for the two Burnley games was excellent. The crowd noise was OK. For the most part it sounded realistic as long as you don't look at the stands.
The football was dire though. Very boring except for the Rodriguez goal and Vidra hitting the post. I had recorded the Watford game to watch later in the evening. When I started watching it I kept falling asleep and having to rewind back.

I've thought that football is like a pantomime for some time now. There are hero's and villains, audience participation and plenty of 'oh yes he did oh no he didn't incidents'. I think that this is a big part of the attraction of going to the ground.Duffer_ wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 1:39 pmThe thing that irked me the most, and this demonstrates the most significant aspect of fan attendance, was the stealing of territory on throw-ins. I look forward to the referee making a huge howler and instantly becoming the villain. There is also the player who gets away with a handball which the referee misses. There's nothing funnier than when the whole ground shouts "handball" and the only people who have missed it are the referee and linesmen. The crowd reaction is hilarious.
Even the constant grumbling from the fans a couple of rows behind can be funny.
