Well done Paul Cook...Doing a steady job at Wigan on a small budget...We could do worse than interview him if a managerial vacancy came up at Turf Moor...

Wigan are now top of the Championship form table over the last six games. So well played Cooky. Derby and Cardiff are near the top as well so hopefully Rovers will he squeezed out.

If Sean does decide to go in the summer, which i doubt, i'm sure Cooky will be on the shortlist, whether he'd be near the top pf that shortlist is another question.Rumpelstiltskin wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 5:08 pmWell done Paul Cook...Doing a steady job at Wigan on a small budget...We could do worse than interview him if a managerial vacancy came up at Turf Moor...
Bitter blow to Rovers play-off hopes, and could well have pushed Wigan towards safety.

Re: Weekend's footy
They’ve just mentioned on commentary that Norwich haven’t won an FA Cup tie at Carrow Road. That was their 4-1 win against us.

He has a better CV than Mike Duff or Joey Barton and their names repeatedly crop up on here.Rumpelstiltskin wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 5:08 pmWell done Paul Cook...Doing a steady job at Wigan on a small budget...We could do worse than interview him if a managerial vacancy came up at Turf Moor...
I’d be looking at one of the younger guys from the Bundesliga.

Norwich not threatening much but then neither are Man u despite all their possession.

Useless bloody Wigan... If they had let Woevers score and won 2-1 I would have had 5 points instead of 2

Poor finishing by UTD, if it goes to pens Norwich have a chance.

Re: Weekend's footy
Watched the Norwich-Utd game earlier, i was stunned by how flat Utd were, this was an FA Cup qf for gawds sake, and they lacked intensity, at least Norwich gave it a go, at least until they went down to 10, then they had to try and shut up shop, and play for pens, which they were moments away from achieving, Is it my imagination or is Ole spouting grey hair these days, he'll have certainly aged 20 years watching that Utd display, that was reminiscent of their early season struggles, and Maguire got them out of jail right at the death.
Barca dropped 2 points late on at Celta Vigo, meaning Real can put daylight between the pair tomorrow, when i say daylight they can go 2 points clear if they win. Their tussle this season is mirroring the City-Liverpool showdown last season, and it's impossible to predict which way it'll swing.

Re: Weekend's footy
Bristol City bombing at home again, they lost 2-1 to Sheff Wed, despite Nakhi bagging, does anybody want a play-off place.
Gooners 1 up at Sheff Utd amid some VAR controversy. The blades have been blunted since the restart, they're still to score a goal.
Forest-hudds just kicked off, big game for both, logic would point to a home win, but this is the Championship, so logic goes out the window.

Re: Weekend's footy
Talking of the Championship, when we finished as champions we'd only lost 5 games. Leeds has lost 9 already.
Brighton in 3rd place lost 5 games also. This season, Brentford in 3rd has lost 11.

Re: Weekend's footy
Yes the standard has been poor this year, and even our 76 points in Coyle's reign would have likely seen us higher than the 5th place we achieved.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 2:32 pmTalking of the Championship, when we finished as champions we'd only lost 5 games. Leeds has lost 9 already.

Indeed our points haul in quite a few seasons could have been enough to secure a play-off place this year, under Stan we managed 72 & 75 when we narrowly missed out, and even in Sean's 1st season we ended up with 70 points, which could have been enough to sneak into the top 6 this season, even the top 2 are going to be well short of getting 90 points, i can see Leeds finishing with 85-88, and West Brom with 80-83, both will still be playing in the top flight next season though, as the rest are incapable of stringing more than a couple of results together.
Arsenal have snatched it late at Bramall Lane, been plenty of drama in the cup ties so far, and Forest have gone 1 up on Huddersfield, good news for those who fear Blackburn squeezing into the play-off's.

Re: Weekend's footy
Yes just checked we got 68 points in the Laws/Howe season, even that won't be far off a top 6 spot this time round, Cardiff are in 6th currently and they've only got 60 points on the board, and with the unpredictability in this division, you can't guarantee any of them will put a run of results together.
Of course that doesn't automatically mean that the 3 promoted teams will go straight back down, depends on how much they each strengthen, and whether they attract the right signings, spending money is easy, both Fulham and Villa have spent big in the last 2 seasons, but there's every chance both will be playing Championship football next season.
Re: Weekend's footy
Watford have omitted Gray, Chalobah, and Quina to ensure the health and safety of all players, staff and officials.
Seems Andre's little (mix) lockdown party as backfired.

Andre Gray chopped from the Watford squad along with Chalobah and Quina on Health grounds following Andre's party night.
None of them first team picks so it should not affect them too badly today vs Southampton.
