Rouwen Hennings Relegated today

Post by diamondpocket » Sat Jun 27, 2020 11:17 pm

For anyone interested in keeping up with ex-clarets Rouwen got relegated today with Fortuna Dusseldorf managed by Uve Rosler.
Going into the final round of games in the Bundesliga Dusseldorf were 3rd bottom and in a play out relegation spot with Werder Bremen 2 points behind in the final relegation spot. With a better goal difference Fortuna realistically only needed a draw as the +4 goal difference advantage would need Bremen to win at home by 4/5 goals against already safe Koln. Fortuna were away to Union Berlin, safe after a good first season in the top flight.

Bremen won 6-1 & Fortuna lost 3-0.

Bremen now go into a 2 legged play off against 3rd position in Bundesliga 2, decided tomorrow. That could see them with a tasty tie against local rivals Hamburg.

Rouwen had a pretty good season scoring 15 goals in 32 appearances and will be looking to fire them back into the top league.

I have adopted Werder Bremen as my German team as Bremen is the city where our student travel consultancy company is based. Since the restart Bremen have had some important and big wins but they just can’t defend. The club has certainly plummeted - it is not that long ago that they were champions and they played in Champions League for a few seasons - if they do play Hamburg it will be a real test of nerve as there is definitely no love lost between them but having said that Werder have at least given themselves a chance.

Dusseldorf had a poor run of conceding late goals that has cost them dear.
Good season for Rouwen, 14 in a relegated team could get him a move.

Never given a fair go at Burnley
I saw his goal v Cardiff on the wettest night I ever watched an away game on.

It was actually an afternoon kick off which goes to show what a grey, miserable day it was.

1 Who would you have replaced to play him? Vokes or Gray?

2 Cardiff was an afternoon game.

Not sure about that, outside the top 5 or 6 the Premier league standard isn't all that great.

My German friend Manfred, who supports Borussia Moenchengladbach (and Burnley!) thinks that Rouwen could be a good buy for Gladbach...

My real interest in German football comes today in Bundesliga 2. I’ve always had a soft spot for Hamburg but they’ve let things slip again and go into the last game in 4th place. To get into the play off position they have to better Heindenheim’s result and Heidenheim are away against Arminia Bielefeld who have already won the league and will go up with VfB Stuttgart.

Back in the day he (Manfred) probably wanted them to sign The Mighty (Mickey) Quinn.....

Heidenheim lost 3-0 to set it up nicely for HSV to get into the play-off. Not to be alas, beaten 5-1 at home by Sandhausen.

I’m sure I could hear the chant - HECKING AUS!

As for Rouwen, he's a goalscorer and has a bullet left foot. Not much else to his game so may well be attractive to another Bundesliga side next year.

I saw an interview with Rouwen a few months back. Some of the players in the Bundesliga can respond in English on BT Sport and I noticed that despite the couple of years he spent with us, Rouwen still spoke only in German. I am sure that would have made it more difficult for him to become fully integrated into a tight group of players.

Shocking result - I've watched them twice recently on TV when they have conceded stoppage time goals, one of them significantly at Stuttgart where they managed to turn a 2-0 half time lead into a 3-2 defeat. Then they conceded another against Holstein Kiel to only draw 3-3.

They were 2-0 down at half time against Sandhausen last Sunday but pulled one back from the penalty spot in the second half. Still 2-1 with six minutes to go but then, going for a vital equaliser that would have taken them into the play offs, they conceded another three goals. Apparently they were dreadful.

I really wanted Hennings to succeed though all I recall is a rather slow though hard working forward with a fat arse who always seemed a yard at least off the pace . He’s a cracking champ level banger ,though no way is lower end Bundesliga as strong as low end prem.

I too was stunned by HSV's result yesterday at home against a bottom 4 side. Your comment of "Hecking aus" took me back to my year at university in Hamburg.(1978-9) I was fortunate enough to be there when HSV with "Mighty Maus," Kevin Keegan one of their stars, won their first Bundesliga title in years. I saw 8 or 9 games that season and with the odd exception they scored at least three pretty much every time they played. At that time HSV had a winger called Willy Reimann who was the fans whipping-boy. In the rare event that things weren't going to plan invariably it was poor Willy Reimann who bore the brunt of the fans ire if he wasn't having a good game. It didn't take long for the chant of REI-MANN RAUS! REI-MANN RAUS to ring round the Volksparkstadion. Absolutely brutal!

If disaffection with the hecklers at the Turf was a factor in Jeff Hendrick not signing a new contract he didn't know he was born! ;)

Nothing though to when the Bristol City fans turned on their manager in the 1970s - Alan DICKS.

Or indeed Arthur Cox at Newcastle in 1984.
