David Bowie - BBC Tonight
I know there are several people on this board, like myself, who are fans of genius David Bowie.
Just to let you know his Glastonbury show in 2000 Is being shown on BBC2 tonight from 9:30 to 11:30.

Lucky man, saw him three times, once at Wembley and twice at Maine Road, but all a long time before this.quoonbeatz wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 12:17 pmI went to Glastonbury for the day just to see this. Brilliant.

Re: David Bowie - BBC Tonight
I've been lucky enough to have seen him 5 times. Twice at Milton Keynes bowl, once at Maine Rd, Rocker Park and the last time in Tel Aviv in '99. Definitely my favourite artist of all time, although closely followed by the Stones.
Thanks for the heads up Tony.

Looking forward to it and set to record for posterity.
I am sure there is a whole generation of new younger fans of his music building up.
Seen a number of clips of this performance at Glastonbury but never all the way through. He was definitely in great form.

Re: David Bowie - BBC Tonight
I'm pretty sure I actually heard David Bowie at Glastonbury in 1971, Ground Control to Major Tom. I say heard because I think it was really early in the morning and I was still tucked up in my sleeping bag. Back then it was free to get in and you could just wander around back stage in the pyramid, talk to the bands and have a look at the instruments they were using. Not been since.

Absolutely brilliant so far.
I went to Serious Moonlight Tour in 83 at Milton Keynes Bowl - to this day the best live show I have ever seen by a million miles. Will never be beaten....unless we meet up in Heaven !
Also went to Glass Spider Tour at Cardiff Arms Park.

Best thing about this is even though he’s an absolute megastar, he still has the passion and enthusiasm of somebody just starting out, even for tracks he must have sung hundreds of times. A cut above.

Re: David Bowie - BBC Tonight
I love Bowie and was there that night at Glastonbury. I don’t think he was in a particularly great creative period at the time of this performance but he just belted out his best stuff that night.
For some reason I remember walking away being a little bit unimpressed, I think the band had a whiff of the cover-band about them.
Glad I got to see him though, he had undeniable star quality from the minute you saw him on stage.

Re: David Bowie - BBC Tonight
Well that was brilliant - mainly because I was surprised how little of it I had actually seen.
It was only a couple of years after his Earthling album - which personally I did not like - so not surprising he played a few tracks from this.
Played a lot of his big hits but not that much from my favourite albums - Hunky Dory, Rise and Fall of ZS, Aladdin Sane and Young Americans.
I do like Station to Station though so was pleasantly surprised to see tracks like Stay being played.
The set at Serious Moonlight Tour was far more to my liking but to be honest I’d gladly watch Bowie sing Ba Ba Black Sheep !!
Greatest musician of all time.

Re: David Bowie - BBC Tonight
Hard to define what is Bowie's "best stuff" such is the depth and quality of his output, particularly in the '70s. This has been a great set but some tremendous stuff not included : Drive In Saturday, Panic in Detroit, Five Years, Moonage Daydream, Suffragette City, Young Americans, The Jean Genie, Fame, John I'm only Dancing, Sound and Vision, Boys Keep Swinging, Teenage Wildlife amongst many other great tracks pre 2000.claret2018 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 11:26 pmI love Bowie and was there that night at Glastonbury. For me that period of albums between Hunky Dory and Young Americans was the best - I love every track on every album !

But at least 20 other tracks run this very close. Plus because he has so many brilliant songs many of which are so different to each other I tend to go through phases of which stuff I like most.

Yep wouldn’t disagree with you with those 3...I’d add in Young Americans album too which I love (which includes Luther Vandross as one of the backing / session singers !)Steve1956 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 10:41 am1971..Hunky Dory

After Aladdin Sane he released Pin Ups - an album of cover versions. I have that on picture vinyl. Didn’t really like the album much - but it does have Sorrow in it which I absolutely love.
I forgave him after that one though as he brought out the brilliant Diamond Dogs !!
Ridiculously incredible number of great albums.
See nobody mentioned Tin Machine yet !! I didn’t like that stuff but was reading last night it was having a bit of a resurgence - though personally I’d put it down to those arty types who jump on the Bowie bandwagon and think it’s cool to like the sh-it stuff he did !!
