Brickmakers
Brickmakers
Not that i will miss it but the brickies is not reopening, yet another pub gone!
Re: Brickmakers
Can't say I'm that surprised. Hasn't even seemed overly busy on a matchday in recent years on the odd occasion I've been in.

Re: Brickmakers
First pub in which I got a pre-match underage pint (Masseys) c. 1966/7.
Not actually been in there for over 30 years but I like the building, red brick, 3 floors, lots of windows. I hope the building can be used for another purpose rather than knocked down.

Yeah, it's a large old building that will take some upkeeping.

Re: Brickmakers
I can’t imagine it would be knocked down but could be left derelict.LeadBelly wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 2:20 pmFirst pub in which I got a pre-match underage pint (Masseys) c. 1966/7.

Re: Brickmakers
First stop when I started drinking in 1967-8. The character of the time was grandma who could down a pint in no time.
Re: Brickmakers
A rumour that the Brun Lea won’t reopen either.

Re: Brickmakers
Actually used to enjoy going in the brickys back in the day. Cracking building and far worse pubs even on that road!

It was a Wetherspoons but then got taken over by a local consortium.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 7:22 pmWasn’t there talk of it closing a year or so ago as well?

Re: Brickmakers
Heard someone was looking at Brunlea last night.
Also another town centre pub/venue to reopen next month. Should be a good edition to the town centre
Haven't been in the Brickies for a while but it had not seemed busy for the few years when I've popped in. Worst pubs will survive

Re: Brickmakers
I used to go in the Brickies before the match in the 70s and 80s. Grandma used to serve a cracking pie and peas and it was a good pint as well. In its latter years a lot of (in my opinion) unsavoury characters frequented the place. I suppose it could end up as a hostel for asylum seekers.

Re: Brickmakers
The wall paper peeling off the walls and roof, it’s really run down. Nice staff when I’ve been in and I do tend to have a few in there most match days but like I said, needs more than a lick of paint

Re: Brickmakers
You'd have to be mad to take on a pub in Burnley centre these days. The decline in the town's nightlife is really sad to see. Hopefully the Bridge and Talbot survive as they're the only places worth bothering with now.

The Brickmakers used to do B&B rooms quite a few years ago, workers doing some building renovations on a property we had dealings with lodged there

Brickies could never be a Spoons, bogs are easily accessible downstairs.
