England
England
How good could England be at next Euros and world cup
Keeper?
Alexander-Arnold
Maguire
Centre back?
Chilwell
Holding midfielder?
Sancho
Foden
Stirling
Rashford
Kane
It looks promising to me
The 3 question marks for me - keeper I haven't got a clue
Other centre back - maybe Walker,Tarks,Ming's,Stones or Gomez
Holding midfielder (if that's the best option) Henderson is quite solid
Alot of good young talent ,what you think?

Re: England
Gomez is Englands best centre half and another years experience won't do him any harm.
Grealish will have a good chance for a midfield spot, especially if he moves to a big club this summer.

Re: England
The usual high hopes...footballs coming home and all that crap, struggle to get out of the group, then lose to someone like Croatia in the first knock out game,Pickford will be the keeper.
Re: England
The starting 11 is beginning to look the strongest it’s been since the ‘golden generation’ when with half decent management, we should have won at least one trophy.
I think the quality of the depth of the squad is very important, and their ability to fit in readily. There are quite a few players not in your list, that would hope to be considered, so that bodes well too.
I’d love for us to have a run of success like Spain did. What a team that was!!

Grealish is a good shout. Maddison has already been in and there’s the likes of Mount coming through. A good season from Alli next term and he’d be well up on the list too.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 8:55 pmGomez is Englands best centre half and another years experience won't do him any harm.

We’ve usually got a raft of strikers but I’m not sure, barring Kane, we are as strong up front as we have been in the past.

Currently would be my team... and No, I don't actually think Mee will go.
Best part is there's strength in depth too. Exciting times for Englands fans

Re: England
Build a team around foden you carnt go wrong utc
Re: England
Not intended as a trap
Pope and Tarks have been around the England squad before but take off the claret tinted specs and would either make the starting lineup
Pope's kicking says no for me and I'd prefer Walker although out of position he's a class act
Re: England
Don’t think Maguire should be anywhere near the England team at the moment. File under John Stones or Phil Jones for over-rated young English centre back who doesn’t fulfil their potential.

Its an interesting point... Kane of course is 1st choice, and I think he'll start there; but there's an argument for a front three of Sterling, Sancho, Foden. Without a "recognised" striker.Winstonswhite wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 9:24 pmDo we have a world class striker? That’s what it boils down to. I’m not so sure.

Mee is too slow for international level unfortunately. Just look at how many goals we concede against top sides like City and Liverpool.SonofPog wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 9:17 pm------- Sterling -Kane - Sancho

Centre back and centre mid is still a worry for me. I think against the very best we'll get exposed.

Re: England
Is a striker still a thing? Those front three are all technically phenomenal footballers. Maybe that’s this generations Lampard| Gerrard quandary
Re: England
Fodens touch and control when he gets the ball is like nothing I've seen before from an English player before
Maybe Gascoigne came close
Maybe Gascoigne came close
Re: England
I think so, maybe not used as much, but if we define a Striker as someone that either tries to get in behind the lines via pace (Think Vardy, Grey etc), a big fella... (Woods, Beneteke.. Carroll etc) there's still a place for these types of players in certain teams... but maybe not at the top end of the game.Winstonswhite wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 9:40 pmIs a striker still a thing? Kane; for all his qualities. Is less technically gifted and plays more like (but not limited too) the traditional striker role than some of the younger players coming through... it would be a brave manager to not play him though.

Just like any game of football, you just need to take your chances.
Kane missed a few sitters in the Croatia game.
Watching the re run of euro 96 and we pasted the Germans missing lots of chances.

Re: England
Had a convo with a B**stards fan mate earlier tonight who was saying he’s been amazed how far he’s gone backwards. Feels he should have been England's first choice centre back for years and years. He’s become a figure of fun and I think he tries so hard not to be that person he almost can’t stop being. He prob needs to play for a side like us on our level for a couple of seasons to get back to where he was

Re: England
Henderson is in that starting 11 without a doubt.
Tarkowski would be my CB of choice - he’s a classy player. Mings may be prioritised because he is left footed.
Goalkeeper is a real problem. Pickford has been backed to the hilt but has had a poor season. I would love for Pope to be given a chance, and given the above I think he should be. But as good as he is he would still represent a slight weakness at that level.
We’re too reliant on Kane as our centre forward. Fortunately we have a host of good flanking forwards but no one else to spearhead the attack.
Reasons to be cheerful as an England fan though. And yes, we probably will get knocked out of Euro 2021 because only one team wins it, but we’re as strong as we’ve been for a while.

Re: England
Not sure if this is a reply to my post so ignore if not. But I agree he definitely is a world class striker. But if he’s injured or a little out of form we don’t seem to have another suitable option. Likewise, if he was tiring in a game or struggling to create chances what is our plan B?

Nothing to do with pace really, there's been loads of top centre backs who have played international football, and I don't just mean England.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 9:35 pmMee is too slow for international level unfortunately. As much as we love him, the problem Ben Mee has is that he isn't good enough with the ball for international football.

Re: England
Surprised nobody has mentioned mason greenwood yet. He is another up and coming talent that could be capable of challenging Kane down the middle and although this year's euros may have come too soon for him there's no reason why he can't force his way in there next year.

Re: England
Don’t disagree that he is up to that standard but where would he fit in? Instead of Kane?
Re: England
Interesting to see if we can cobble together a defence. Don't seem to have had a decent one for years now. Keeper and striker wise we're lacking too. Question marks over Pickford, left back position, centre-half.
Seem to be blessed in midfield/out wide. Lacking an alternative if Kane is injured. Ings is the obvious choice if he can stay fit.
Pope or Henderson
Alexander Arnold, Gomez, Centre Half? Left Back? Chilwell or Taylor (no worse than any others at LB)
Sterling, Foden, Henderson, Rashford, Ings
Kane

Re: England
The extra year will help England's young players mature and be better players. Kames best game was against Spain where he played in a deeper role, holding the ball allowing 2 speedy players to run ahead of him. Kane up front doesn't do it for England, too slow and always falling over breaking up the play. Danny Ings ois also in for a shout if his current form continues and avoids injury

Pope will never be England's No1 his distribution is shocking, can our super coach BM not coach him how to pass a ball,it either goes all the way to the opposing keeper or out for a throw in its a pity really because hes a good keeper but will never be a great one with distribution like that, and when Henderson returns to United he will be Englands No1 for the next 10 yearsRileybobs wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 11:30 pmHenderson is in that starting 11 without a doubt.

Re: England
When was the golden generation? Say 2002-2010
2002 Brazil, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Cafu, Kaka on the bench, KAKA ON THE BENCH!!
2004 Penalties, unlucky, looked a great side before Rooney got injured.
2006 Penalties again, could go either way. Winners Italy, finalists France. How people think England had the right to win this tournament is being a silly billy.
2008 Failed to qualify. The start of the end of the golden generation realistically. Poor side that lost to croatia.
2010. Disallowed goal would have changed the game vs Germany. It wouldn’t have just made it 4-2. Goals change games.
I’ve only chosen those years as Spains golden generation were only great for 8 years or so and English football fans thinking England should win every tournament is just stupid.
