Pope will never be England's No1 his distribution is shocking, can our super coach BM not coach him how to pass a ball,it either goes all the way to the opposing keeper or out for a throw in its a pity really because hes a good keeper but will never be a great one with distribution like that, and when Henderson returns to United he will be Englands No1 for the next 10 years
The difference between England and Burnley is every single England player will want to receive the ball. Our weakness from goal kicks and throw ins is because nobody wants to get caught out. Nobody wants the ball in a slightly difficult position.

Pope would just roll it out to 3 or 4 players on England duty.

So what your saying is Nearly men then, and everbodys golden generation was better than ours....gotcha :)
Well yea. We had/have great players. We can’t help that other nations have better players. They also have a set of fans and media you unite and support them. Our fans, our media enjoy our side failing. It’s a very strange thing. In those years players didn’t get on as much as they do now.

The old saying of 'Football is a simple game made complicated by idiots'.

It does seem to be the case these days that a keeper who is actually good at making saves is less of a priority than one who has good distribution.

A goalkeeper that can do both doesn't seem to exist.

You can't have world class players in every position, no country does. I think that needs to be remembered when we think of 'weak' areas within our national team - undoubtedly though, if this 11 (keeper up for debate, rest for me is about right) is available next summer then we are as good as anyone else (on paper):

------------------------------------------PICKFORD
--ALEXANDER-ARNOLD-----MAGUIRE----------GOMEZ--------------CHILWELL
---------------------HENDERSON----------------------FODEN
---SANCHO--------------------------------------------------------STERLING
-------------------------KANE-------------------RASHFORD

There’s no lack of talent and technical skills in abundance ,though we’re rarely short on that .For me we lack 1 or maybe 2 true world class players that can turn an ultra close match with a bit of magic .People got carried away with a very good yet slightly fortuitous route to the semis in the WC. We don’t yet match Spain ,Germany ,France or Belgium though on our day we could beat any of em imo.

I think they have a real chance this time , now if it comes to penalties you can kiss that one goodbye .

A midfield 3 of Henderson, Winks and Foden would be what I'd be looking to go with. Rice and Barkley haven't convinced at international level yet. Winks doesn't do anything spectacular but he keeps things ticking over and doesn't give the ball away cheaply, which is vital in international football.

A few other players who could get their chance... Grealish, Saka, Bissaka, maybe Harvey Barnes? And other than the club he plays for Phillips @ Leeds could be in contention, depending on how he performs with them in the Prem next season.

I know it's all about opinions, but good grief, Tyrone Mings? Seriously? All he does when I've seen him, live, and on tv is grab the striker round the waist. Very dangerous tactic with continental refs. He should be nowhere near the squad, let alone the starting X1. Several superior defenders to call upon. Including Tarks.
