Re: red card madness
It doesn't matter to us any more. We responded in the best possible way by winning the game.
Re: red card madness
I do wonder though - the ref didn't book Ayew, which suggests he didn't see the incident. Even though the VAR ref saw it in slow motion from umpteen angles, can they still use the "ref didn't see it" argument to give a retrospective ban?

Ayew should now not be selected for next 3 games - which could go some way to preventing them overtaking us!
also may have a bearing on teams to be relegated if he plays and his contribution effects results

Re: red card madness
The way the game is now, the ref would (probably correctly) have been criticised I think if he hadn't had it checked by VAR, and once it went to VAR he couldn't have over-ruled. It was Scott who bottled it.

Re: red card madness
They both bottled it.
The ref saw it happen and passed the buck to VAR.
VAR didn't have the bottle.

Re: red card madness
That's the problem with VAR, most refs will - understandably - pass the buck on the big decisions, rather than being risk being exposed as wrong. (It's human nature).
VAR ref has no excuse though.

Re: red card madness
He should’ve given the red card, VAR would then check it anyway, upheld the decision, and everyone would’ve got the decision correct. We ended up with everything incorrect. Good to see VAR eliminating mistakes....... Not.

Re: red card madness
Glad he wasnt sent off to be honest, they would have sat in and stifled the remainder of the game and it would have been more difficult to win.
We answered the injustice in the best way possible, 1-0 Mee, thanks a lot!!!

Re: red card madness
I think it was red, but not the worst I've seen.
What really irks is that if it had been the other way around, you just know Brownhill would have walked

Re: red card madness
I think we may as well dispense with pitch side monitors. VAR should have passed it back to the on field ref to go and have a look! It was clearly a red card. Ayew had a look at Brownhill before the forearm smash. So obviously a straight red for violent conduct. If Brownhill was playing for Liverpool, Man City, United et al would it have been overturned? Not a chance!
Re: red card madness
Interesting that the views of ex referee's on commentary while the match was ongoing was that they'd have given a red. We need more consistency.

Re: red card madness
Indeed, Ayew has a look where Brownhill is and the only reason he would raise his arm in that position to head height is to chin his opponent. The clearest and most obvious red card you could hope to see confirmed by Dermot Gallagher afterwards. VAR really is shockingly hopeless at times.
