Olive Grace Mee

Post by ClaretTony » Tue Jun 30, 2020 9:26 am

Born 16 weeks prematurely - now six weeks old and still in hospital. During this time her dad has fronted up for Burnley on Project Restart and the BLM campaign, he's fronted up following the incident at the Etihad, he's captained the side and turned in two colossal performances.

My best wishes to Olive Grace and her mum and dad.

I wondered what the rocking arms gesture from Ben was about after he'd scored.

All best wishes go to little Olive Grace, her parents and family.

We're lucky to have Ben at our club, and not just because he's a brilliant defender.

He is the absolute epitome of what this club and Dyche is all about.

Thank you Ben, and I wish you all the very best with your family issues.

Long may you reign.

I have to say I had my doubts that he was right for the captaincy role. How very, very wrong I was.

What an emotional time it must have been for him combined with training , preparing for restart, playing 3 games in a week. All the time thinking of his tiny daughter and her fight for life.
What a captain and what a guy!
Good luck Olive and the Mee family.

My very best wishes to Olive Grace. As the commentators said last night Ben Mee is a real leader of men, a captain in everything he does. When you look around The Premier League and football in general at some of the prima donnas and players who think that they are more important than they are we should be very very proud that Ben Mee is captain of our Club !

We are very lucky to have Ben Mee as our captain. Even more impressed with the performances he has put in since the restart with his newly born daughter still in hospital. Hopefully it won't be long before mum and dad have her home.

A giant of a man. No whinging, no excuses just total commitment to his chosen profession and no doubt his family. I don't know his contract situation but we need to get him.signed in for.more years here. He 'gets' Burnley Football Club. A great role model and ambassador for the club.

I had no idea, but that's the measure of the man too - it's not in the public domain like it would be for many other celebs. Ben Mee has always been a legend in my eyes, from that goal line clearance with his face (and earlier); right up to the goal last night - gives his all every game.

I truly wish him well and hope Olive Grace has a long and prosperous life.

How times change. I remember people on here slagging Ben off when he conceded a couple of penalties because of his commitment in the box. (I wasn't one of them.)

Ben Mee has been absolutely brilliant for Burnley and has been my favourite outfield player for years. Now, I think maybe he's my all round number one, even beating Tom Heaton.

Just wondering. I wonder if all this fantastic publicity Ben has had recently will influence Sarfgate to give him a game at last?

I can't think of anyone more deserving, as his football is speaking as loudly as his interviews.

I can’t imagine having a daughter born 16 weeks premature. That has to be so scary. Then add to that it being in the middle of a pandemic. Then throw in all the banner crap. My first daughter was born premature and was in hospital for 2 weeks and I thought that was bad. Ben Mee you are an absolute rock star and deserve all the success in the world. Looking forward to seeing Olive Grace in her Dads arms at Turf Moor very soon. Hugs and kisses from Florida

Ben's passionate response to the racist bile at the Etihad where he really stepped up to the plate and spoke for 99% of all Burnley fans, followed by 2 terrific displays in the last 2 games....whilst dealing with the emotional whirlpool of caring for a very sick wee girl...well it frankly oozes real class.. He's put himself a notch above the money grubbing narcissism of pro football today.

He can lead the clarets out of that tunnel until he needs a wheelchair for me.

Incredibly (surprisingly so) moved by all of this.

So so so lucky to have the rounded characters we do representing our club.

Players like Trippier and Heaton (previously) and Tarkowski and Mee (and Rodriguez obviously, and hopefully Brownhill) are sufficiently local to 'get' East Lancashire and Burnley.

We are a squad comprised of decent people and well as decent players.

This is worth way, way more than a squad comprised of world class players who have very little class.

My now deceased mum was called Olive.

My eldest surprised us by arriving 4 weeks early.

She was tiny.

I can't even contemplate what it must be like to have a baby arrived so prematurely, and to all intents and purposes to the outside world just carry on as 'normal'.

That is some character.

All the very best Mee and family.

As with others above, the news really struck a chord. Our second daughter was born just shy of ten weeks early. She was born at the start of the school Christmas holidays and started her spell in NICU. My headteacher allowed me to return to school after Christmas and start my Paternity Leave whenever she was discharged so that I could support at home.

I lasted a week. I just couldn’t concentrate on my job as my thoughts were obviously elsewhere. Mee has shown unbelievable strength of character here towards himself, his family, teammates and ourselves as supporters.

Truly moving story and I can only echo the comments already posted on this board.

As a father myself, it hits a little different, knowing how he must be feeling, yet until the last day or two, no one really knew, tells a lot of Ben Mee’s character. How he has just got on with the restart, the performances, to come back as fit as pre lockdown, all requires such discipline in testing times and for that, I am glad he wears that armband.

I send every one of my best wishes to Olive Grace, Ben and family.

I remember when Ben arrived at the Club with Tripps, seeing them both play in pre-season games at Torquay and Bristol Rovers. For me Ben was the stand out player and looked a class act even then. He has been a virtually ever-present player ever since and his style and standards have never dropped.

In my opinion he has made a major contribution not only to the recent successes of our beloved Club but also to the careers of his playing colleagues Keane, Tarks, Charlie Taylor, Nick Pope (and others) and yes also in another way to that of his manager.

From the time he stuck his head into the mix to save a goal at Reading right up to his MoM display on Monday Ben Mee is one of my all-time greats who have pulled on a claret and blue shirt.

Thanks Ben and my best wishes go out to you and your family.
