Maybe, Kate.
"New Deal"
Re: "New Deal"
Wow Ian, did you go to school with him, or do you know someone really well who went to school with him?
By the way are you attending council meetings again now?

Re: "New Deal"
This doesn't work as a slogan at all. "A*s For Everybody" was much better.

I could always use them in tandem on the chance I get a Kate in my class who’s considerably weaker than the rest.

I’m in the camp of not judging his reaction to Covid yet as tbh we still have little information about why how or what the virus does to people. On top of that until proper data on second spikes, vaccines and treatment come around it’s hard to determine if the right thing overall has been done. And I say overall because in any war you don’t make the right decision every time
What I will say is yes Boris hasn’t been perfect by any stretch of the imagination, however what he has gone threw since becoming PM is nothing short of ludicrous

Re: "New Deal"
I may have done, Kate, although I don't remember him at my council estate primary or secondary school. Just his type!
Council meers remain 'online'. Had a planning meet the other day. All ok but with no audible member of the public and the public objection statements read by officers, made it very dull and flat.
Not real life!

ahh so you showing your true colors so easily, back to the name calling and white privileged male again with zero idea about me, except I have difficulty spelling, who do you think I put that down to? People always make it personal when they are on the losing side
Re: "New Deal"
It was a joke where I was referring to having a member of the class named Kate, not somebody who reflects your online persona.KateR wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 4:35 pmahh so you showing your true colors so easily, back to the name calling and white privileged male again with zero idea about me, except I have difficulty spelling, who do you think I put that down to? Re: "New Deal"
I'll believe you but suspect millions wouldn't
Re: "New Deal"
Goodness me you really do have a huge chip on your shoulder.
I think it was obvious to all and sundry what I meant there. The slogan I was referring to in my joke would only apply if the person was called Kate. Sorry if you took offence to it but there really wasn’t a hint of a personal comment.

Wasn't "gaslighting" the big dance craze in the Cat's Whiskers early 70s?

"A*s For All"
Re: "New Deal"
Pretty sure In a parallel universe where a Corbyn/Labour government got in power and handled the virus in exactly the same way as the current government, the only change to this MB would be the same posters now attacking this governments handling of everything would be defending and applauding how well the Corbyn/Labour government are handling everything.
Re: "New Deal"
That’s spot on. That would definitely be the only change.bpgburn wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 7:07 pmPretty sure In a parallel universe where a Corbyn/Labour government got in power and handled the virus in exactly the same way as the current government, the only change to this MB would be the same posters now attacking this governments handling of everything would be defending and applauding how well the Corbyn/Labour government are handling everything.
The people defending the government from criticism right now would definitely still be doing the same thing. Yep, definitely.
Good post.
Re: "New Deal"
Is this where you say that I shouldn't post on here anymore because you don't agree? You seem to be getting a bit to hot under the collar about what was obviously a half hearted comment.
Settle down it's just a MB
Re: "New Deal"
2-0 Barnsley. Today I am Barnsley.
Anyway, can I suggest that with an 80 seat majority, we can pack off Boris the blusterbus to canvey Island, lock him up and let the remaining tories get on with it. I get this horrible feeling that those of them that have their heads full of something other than hot air are being shackled by Johnson and Cummings who must be the equivalent of Joe kinnear and John carver being given the reins of a Premier league club.

So he’s sent out some letters and not done anything about the flood defenses in Padiham , ok thenQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 2:05 pmJust this week he has sent letters out to all local businesses who have gone above and beyond to safely open and keep customers safe.
He spent a lot of time in Padiham when the floods hit last year sorting through everything, helping people.
I haven't met him, it's others raving about him.

It's deadline day and they're scared about the window closing tonight.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 1:04 pmGreat, another politics thread where left wingers cry for 700 pages.
Give it a rest man, we won last night.
Be happy.
Once it's closed its going to be nigh on impossible to get yet another extension.

Yes, I thought SD had signed for another 6 years......Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 1:46 pmYou have every right to slag him off, but most on here would rather politics were kept to a minimum and the same threads.
Starting one with just NEW DEAL as the title will attract football fans thinking it will be club business.

Just because he says it, doesn't make it true!
Re: "New Deal"
Anyway, the 'new deal' is a very poor effort, indeed.
Re: "New Deal"
I don’t think any other government would have handled things this badly. No other PM would have sat out of so many COBRA meetings. No other government would have waited so long before locking down - which is what led to the high number of deaths. I don’t think any other government would have sat on their backsides in the weeks before it reached us. And I highly doubt any other government would have under reported to such a degree as ours has.bpgburn wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 7:07 pmPretty sure In a parallel universe where a Corbyn/Labour government got in power and handled the virus in exactly the same way as the current government, the only change to this MB would be the same posters now attacking this governments handling of everything would be defending and applauding how well the Corbyn/Labour government are handling everything.
So yes - a half to three quarters of the deaths might have been prevented, and the hit to the economy wouldn’t have been so hard, but otherwise it might be broadly similar.

Re: "New Deal"
Surely it's no coincidence that the three countries (USA, Britain & Brazil) with the highest number of deaths have three leaders who thought they know best and did things a little differently by completely ignoring advice.

Re: "New Deal"
Yeah, it's almost as though electing a leader because he looks like he'd give a good best man speech or be a decent craic down the pub is a terrible idea.
Re: "New Deal"
Maybe, just maybe you could add Sweden to that list, just a thought but perhaps it doesn't quite fit in with what you're trying to portray when you talk about doing things differently.
Re: "New Deal"
See Johnson is now claiming this is £600bn rather than the £5bn mentioned yesterday. He must’ve had a root round down the back of his sofa last night.
