Fair play. The role Hendrick played was massively underestimated by too many fans. He was instrumental in bringing about the success he talks about.

A good, underrated player for us. It is clear from this message that he heard all of the unfair criticism.
I think the fans reaction to him was instrumental in him not signing.
I for one think we will miss him.

In my opinion , the fans will have nothing to do with his decision, it will come down to contract offer, contract length and outside interest. He got a little bit of grief but not enough that would cause him to leave.
I liked him, but I’m not too concerned other than it makes us lighter on number, good luck to him.

I dont buy this bad press he got from fans.
Possibly the odd groan. And definitely the odd social media and forum post but in the main on match day he was well backed by fans. Even comparing him to Ronaldo.
Several posters on here said he got abuse. That was never the case.
Hard working player who did a decent job for us wherever he was asked to play. Hope he has a decent career but he wasnt irreplaceable.

Correct I hardly ever witnessed him getting stick at all ,no more groans than anyone else ,in fact the crowd really got behind him this last season even becoming a bit of a minor cult hero imo . Most the stick I saw him receive seemed to be online, if you looked on the official twitter account normally 1 minute after team announced was normally met with a string of ffs Hendrick comments or things like get rid. Maybe his face never really fitted with our internet fans.

Re: A goodbye message from Jeff
Where I sit unfortunately, there were pockets of fans for whom Jeff could do no right and they seemed to actively look for every misplaced pass and everytime he looked tired or didn't quite make it to the ball.
Every game, it was the same, unless he scored.
Unfortunately he was a top target for the boo boys at Turf Moor, the question is who next? Been the same year in year out, there is always one who is a scapegoat among fans.
Good luck Jeff, I thought you give your all whilst at Burnley and wish you all the success for the rest of your career apart from when you play against us.

Its probably His situation that caused SD to rail at the board. But the board would not be best pleased at losing him without a fee. Does anyone know the details of the contract that he was apparently offered and why he refused to extend his stay? Apolgies if it has been mentioned but I haven't followed this saga. Has Bosman got a lot to answer for, or is fair in this day and age?

Re: A goodbye message from Jeff
A solid and versatile player who whilst never a particularly 'stand out' player, was reliable and useful in that you could almost stick him wherever and he would do a job.
I never saw him as irreplaceable, and Brownhill has shown already that we arguably have a player at the very least just as effective within the club already, but his versatility makes him a big loss to the squad overall and we will need to replace him with another midfielder for sure.
Good luck to him.

Re: A goodbye message from Jeff
JH played his best football and seemed at his happiest when their was a clique of Irish international players at the club - Brady, Ward, Long, Walters & Jeff. One by one injuries took their toll and the group disbanded and JH was the sole survivor playing first team football. Played out of position, rumblings from the terraces, I think that he felt that he just needed a change of scenery - (much the same as Arfield).
Apparently the Club’s offer has been on the table for a long time and it’s clear that Jeff made a decision to wind down his existing contract and move on long ago. Probably would have been the same for Brady in pre-covid circumstances.

Brady is another, I must admit I’ve grown frustrated with him but he’s just been unlucky with injuries and trying to get himself back fit
Re: A goodbye message from Jeff
Scored a few memorable goals and was always prepared to put a shift in. Brownhill seems to have settled in remarkably well but I think Hendrick will probably be remembered more for the unseen things like picking up second and third phases of play.

Exactly what I thought when I read it.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 9:11 amHardly the most effusive praise. A steady enough player but nothing special
I’m not sure he ever thought himself that he was taken to heart by our fans....or even by Dyche. There were many period of his career when he was the first to be substituted early in the second half when things were not going well. Or when we were struggling he was often the player dropped....which especially after he was having to play the no 10 role he did not like he probably thought was unfair.
In reality how many times did Jeff get to play his favourite position in our team ? It wasn’t many.
As it happens in the second half of his career with us it was Jeff coming back into the team that coincided with our fortunes taking a turn for the better. And in the last couple of years with the number of injuries we had to wide players Jeff’s fitness and flexibility to play in different positions has been vital to the team.
But I don’t think Jeff thought he was fully appreciated by the fans who saw him every week - and whilst there may have not exactly been lots of boo boys he might have remembered the reaction (or lack of reaction) of the fans all those times he came off after 60 mins or those times he was brought on as sub etc
Or it might be because I don’t think we ever made up a song for him ?!!!!

That goal at home to Bournemouth and the finish to that move at Everton should live long in the collective memory.
All the best, Jeff, except of course whenever you play against us in future.
We probably rated you more highly than you realised: it's just that we have a funny way of showing it.

The leaving message just about sums up his time here. Very average.
He put a shift in but not many man of the match performances. Just lacked a bit of confidence for me.
Good luck in your next club.

LMFAO......Don't you believe for one minute it's the fan's that played a part, most if not all player's are driven by money, the offer of a bigger wage elsewhere is why Hendrick didn't sign a new deal and no other reason.

Good luck to Jeff, one of my favourite players at Turf Moor and one of the most underrated by many fans.
I sit in The Jimmy Mac Top Tier and Jeff was the subject of abuse by moaners in the stand.
Sean Dyche knows how important he was to the team and probably one of the most important players in his team.
I wish him all the best where he goes and over the next two seasons it will show how much he is missed.

Thanks for all your hard work Jeff. Apart from some memorable goals, and loads of interventions on the right wing my biggest memory is at Everton last year when the manager left you out and we were overrun.

Good luck and good bye really .
Re: A goodbye message from Jeff
I’ve had a season ticket and gone to all home games and many away games for the last 3 decades.
But can’t say I ever heard a song about Jeff. Mind you I sit in the lower JM so can’t hear most of what the cricket field stand sing !
Don’t go to as many away games now - maybe 5 or 6 a season but again can’t remember a song about Jeff.
But it was a tongue in cheek comment anyway. The rest of the post is more about my opinion that he was not taken to the heart of the burnley fans in the same way as lots of his team mates were / are. He played far more games than Defour for example did in a 4 year period and look at the difference in the relationship between the fans and Defour (and I know that’s because Defour had a lot more natural ability)

Jeff was OK and I'd have liked him to stay.
But as others have said he was not exactly outstanding, and he had some real stinkers where the game just passed him by. Not irreplaceable by a long chalk.
Best of luck to him.

Re: A goodbye message from Jeff
I've nothing against Jeff exercising his right not to sign a contract, he was a useful cog in our team, but he's not irreplaceable, and we'll move on, just as we did when Arfield, Boyd Gray, Ings, Keane & Vokes left amongst others, it would be the ultimate irony if we qualified for the EL, but Milan missed out.
Players come and players go, the bigger picture for me is keeping SD, as long as he's at the helm, we'll be fine.

Re: A goodbye message from Jeff
Maybe I'm reading to much in the "Little Club" but one of the top 20 clubs in the UK and for me the biggest he has played for. He was a BFC player and supported him but never thought he was that great personally. Like all ex players will watch him with mild interest in how he get's on during the next few years and do wish him luck.
