If they did, playing like this, they'ed win the title by Easter.

This says that if they finish outside the bottom 3 then it applies this season, of they go down anyway it's next season.Clarets4me wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 7:00 pmYes, they would ! Isn’t this thread to discuss the situation at Wigan with the admin? There’s another thread for tonight’s games.
Re: Wigan
It is, but given the opposition, then the swing in goal difference could be pertinent to their survival chances should they be level on points.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 7:42 pmIsn’t this thread to discuss the situation at Wigan with the admin? There’s another thread for tonight’s games.

but surely that means you'll forever settle for the championship doesn't it, and then rely on whatever resources are available can sustain a capable team in that division given the financial clout of some of the teams in that division .bfcjg wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 12:56 pmAs has been alluded to on this thread those who crave foreign owners need a reality check. Re: Wigan
How is it similar to now? In the PL you get massive TV revenues and worldwide exposure. In the championship you create your own revenue and given how the market has moved even in the past 5 years it wouldn't be long until we were yoyoing between L1 and championship. If you start settling for championship football there is only one way your club is heading. We should be striving to be the best we can possibly be and maximize any chance we have of success while we can.

If Wigan finish in the bottom 3 after 46 games then the -12 deduction will be for next season in League One, if they finish out of the bottom 3 then the -12 deduction will be this season, basically now Wigan's aim is to finish 12 points above 22nd as even with 12 point deduction their goal difference should see them survive if on the same points as 22nd.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 7:04 pmBut would they start next season in the Championship at -12?

Re: Wigan
Championship clubs Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday look as though they will avoid relegation this season but could instead face a points deduction ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.
The Latics are set to be deducted 12 points after going into administration, while the Owls could face a maximum of a huge 21 point loss after being accused of an aggravated breach of the EFL's profit and sustainability rules.
With Wigan sitting in 13th place in the Championship and ten points clear of the relegation zone and Wednesday 16th and eight points clear with one game to play, were the sanctions to be imposed this season it would definitely see Wednesday relegated and most probably Wigan too.
But according to the Daily Mail, due to the fact both clubs would have the right to appeal against the decision the amount of time needed to complete the proceedings would likely not be sufficient before the start of next season, meaning it is expected the sanctions will be imposed then instead.
It means Wigan should find Wednesday's game against Fulham less stressful than it could have been, with them having needed a win to have a chance of staying in the division if the points deduction counted towards this season.
A statement from the EFL on Monday evening confirmed Wigan's punishment, and read: "In the specific case of Wednesday evening’s final round of Championship matches for season 2019/20, and any potential impact on divisional standings, relegation will be confirmed for the Clubs in 22, 23 and 24 positions in the Championship table following the conclusion of those matches and will be subject to the resolution of any ongoing proceedings.
"In the case of Wigan Athletic the 12-point sporting sanction, as a result of the Club entering administration, will apply immediately following the end of the game against Fulham but is subject to appeal."

Probably somewhat related to the stadium at a guesshttps://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53362999
Their players have finally been paid their outstanding wages after the June payments were late, not my idea of how to run a club.

Interestingly, his brother supported Burnley... and was hoping to one day do the same for Burnley, but in the event he died before they hit the mega bucks Walker became. My uncle (also long past) was schoolmates with them and kept in regular contact with them until at least the late seventies. This part I know first hand as we all once went for a meal at his farm in Blackburn before he moved.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 2:38 pmI think the main problem with Jack Walker was that he was the only football fan in the family, from all that's been in the papers, etc.
When he died, interest lapsed.
The Walker Trust seems to have been a bit of a disaster for them.

Wigan are in danger of being let down by the EFL muppets
The EFL were guilty of no exercising due diligence when one group of speculators sold the club to another
They should have seen the danger signs

It goes to show what a pathetic car crash of an organisation the EFL is. How TF has it come to this with teams still not knowing if they've stayed up or gone down after the season has finished. They've fu$ked this situation up so much its quite staggering really

Yup, and understandably. Admin is -12pts, that's been understood for a while.
If the EFL lose this one, then we may as well play a season out in the courtroom instead of on the pitch.

The EFL seem breathtakingly inept ( or blinded by ££?) when it comes to ownership . The champ is still presumably still the 6th richest league in the world ?which no doubt attracts a similar amount of shysters ,dreamers ,egomaniacs and the down right criminal as the Prem.

Wigan's always invested well in their academy and it's provided quite successful. At present they seem to be having something of a fire sale and one player in particular who i'd hope we are interested in is Joe Geldhart. Very highly rated by supporters in this area.
