Apologies if already discussed, but when does the transfer open?

Why, do you actually expect us to sign anyone?

Re: Transfer window
Not yet confirmed - mostly because there needs to be consensus as to when it closes - allowed to be open for 12 weeks max - it is currently looking like mid July for it opening

Re: Transfer window
Can't free agents be signed from today? surely if their contracts have ended they're free to join other clubs, whether they can be registered yet is another matter.

My understanding is that Mike Garlick and Neil Hart are of the same view

Re: Transfer window
All this talk about Burnley going broke is absolute rubbish. Mike Garlick said that when he thought the season might not finish. Well now it hopefully will and I would not be surprised if the purse strings are loosened a bit to keep Sean.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 2:26 pmMy understanding is that Mike Garlick and Neil Hart are of the same view
A few seasons back we spent nearly £40 million and it wouldn't surprise me if we came close to that again. Garlick isn't stupid. There will be a lot of sellers this window and he might want to buy while other club's finances are stretched enough to reduce prices.

Re: Transfer window
We normally make about £30m cash flow profit before player trading. This season we have perhaps lost £10m in TV money and £2m in matchday income, and our net transfer outgoings are about £8m. That means we should have made a cash profit and shouldn't be strapped for transfer funds.

Re: Transfer window
I think that it's all pointing to a crap one.
Re: Transfer window
One question that had occurred to me with our unexpected injury situation is whether or not it would be possible to go back on our earlier decision and offer Aaron Lennon a contract for a year. I don't think Hendrick is that interested, but Lennon might be and we could certainly do with him right now. The cost of year's contract could well be offset by money gained from a higher placing. Would that be allowed?
Not quite on the same subject, but the more advanced of our younger players are not being named as subs because of their loan situation, but will that situation continue to apply for the season as a whole, or is there date when their position of loanees is deemed to be over? We could do with them as well.

Well, be a pessimist if you like. I prefer to look on the bright side. Garlick and his board have served us very, very well over their tenure and I expect them to continue to do so.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 3:02 pmreally!!?? - hmmm not so sure about that

Those people having a pop at Mike Garlick over Sean's apparent position, should thank their lucky stars that the club is debt free thanks to him and the board.

As for the rest, I believe I have been very consistent in expressing the same view during my time on this board

we are a minimum of 4 players short and that's before we lose anybody, we will sign players or we might as well raise the white flag now

Re: Transfer window
For any that are interested, I feel Chester Perry is being realistic, without, of course, having direct access to the club's accounts and player contracts. I also believe Mike Garlick is being realistic and thinking about the future of the club.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 3:40 pmI don't see myself as a pessimist on this

I'm an optimist, in hoping that Sean Dyche will also be ready to take on the challenge of reconciling the financial and footballing needs of the club for the next season and many more beyond.

Re: Transfer window
Even the most pessimistic on here can't think we won't be signing anyone. Hart, Hendrick and Lennon have gone and even with them we didn't really have a full 25 man squad. You only have to look at our bench for the Palace game to know that with a few injuries we can't even manage a full bench.
Re: Transfer window
I feel we will sign players in the next window, because of the reduced size of our squad. What level of quality the signings will be is another matter entirely

Re: Transfer window
In light of the Wigan situation, i just browsed their squad, Jamal Lowe stands out as a possible signing, he's only 25, and is a right-winger, Lennon's replacement maybe?
The only stumbling block is he's contracted until 2022, but if we're looking at spending £5m or so on a player he's one to bear in mind, whether we'd get him for that amount who knows, but it's entirely feasible that other prospects will become available from the Championship, that's a market we could fare well in this year, but we need to be reactive for once, and seize the day.

Re: Transfer window
We were linked with him last season before he left Pompey for Wigan, think he went for about £2.5m & also with Morsy & the youngster Geldhart I think.tiger76 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 5:06 pmIn light of the Wigan situation, i just browsed their squad, Jamal Lowe stands out as a possible signing, he's only 25, and is a right-winger, Lennon's replacement maybe?
