Who do you want to win today ?
Rovers or Leeds, and why ?
Re: Who do you want to win today ?
Rovers-prefer them in the play offs if winning today stopped a Leeds automatic promotion

Re: Who do you want to win today ?
0-0 draw probably best, allowing the team in 6th to get further away from Rovers, and Brentford to make ground. After that, a Rovers win - providing the teams above them in the race to 6th also win.

Leeds are, sadly, up. So a 0-6 would be nice.
Re: Who do you want to win today ?
Think you are right Huw. Their 3 home fixtures are Barnsley, Stoke and Charlton-nailed on 9 points although they didn't beat Luton in their last home game.

Got to be a Rovers win, but only the one, to keep hope alive that Leeds fall out of the top two and then blow it in the playoffs

Re: Who do you want to win today ?
If Derby and Cardiff win enough it doesn't matter what Rovers do. Rovers have Cardiff, West Brom and Millwall to come, so you'd have to say it's unlikely for them to get 6th, even with a win today. But 0-0 will help both cases.

It would make the last few games more interesting if Leeds got beat, with wins for Fulham, Brentford and Forest. Rovers are crap and I doubt very much that they will make the play offs

Not even up for debate for me.
Much as I dislike Dirty Leeds, wanting a Rovers win would be rejected by my DNA.
Gotta be the Yorkies, preferably 0-5.
Wanting Rovers to win? Hmmmm...nope, can't visualize that.

Re: Who do you want to win today ?
Anyone who is happy with Rovers getting 3 points nearer to the play-offs today has to be prepared to accept that they could get then be on course for promotion.
They've got Cardiff next up so should they beat Leeds today, then a win at Cardiff would almost certainly lift them into 6th spot.
Getting back in the PL has never been so important as this season with all the fall-out from Covid still to come.
It's a Leeds win for me with hopefully all Rovers rivals picking up points. I don't want them to have any chance of getting in the play-offs on last day of season.
(Oddly enough after 2 disastrous results against teams near the bottom I have a feeling that Rovers might be up for this today and get a result.)

Re: Who do you want to win today ?
Being born and brought up 15 miles from Leeds, it must be Rovers. Never had a problem with them, especially as they have always been a lower league team in my mind.
Have to admit that I also bought a Rovers subbuteo team in my teens - liked the kit.

0-0 will do me. It'll make it unlikely for Rovers to get 6th and it allows Brentford to make up 2 points.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Sat Jul 04, 2020 10:48 amAnyone who is happy with Rovers getting 3 points nearer to the play-offs today has to be prepared to accept that they could get then be on course for promotion.

Rovers and Leeds a Draw
Wins for Wolves, Leicester and Monday Everton to win or beat Spurs and of course a win for us tomorrow puts us in a great position for Europe again. Come on you know you want to.

Unfortunately so. As much as no one wants to see Leeds in the Premier League, including half their staff who will be replaced, I really don't want Rovers anywhere near the play-offs!

Re: Who do you want to win today ?
1-1 will do me thank you very much, means they both drop 2 points, and i gain ground in the Super 6.
In the Champ wins for Brentford, Cardiff, Derby, & Udders. Makes it difficult for either Nobbers or Rovers to gatecrash the play-offs.
In the Prem wins for Leicester & Wolves, keeps Palace below us & Arsenal well in our sights.

Definitely Rovers to win. Anything to help keep Leeds away from the Premier will do.. Think Leeds will tank them though 3-1

Re: Who do you want to win today ?
I've been a Clarets supporter for 45+ years, but never lived anywhere near Burnley. I followed the team in whatever way I could - radio, newspaper reports, hours refreshing Ceefax pages, finally t'internet and then Sky... I always tried to get to games "down South" in the old 3rd and 4th division days - fashionable places like, Gillingham, Maidstone and Aldershot - and got to the Turf when up there visiting relatives etc.jackmiggins wrote: ↑Sat Jul 04, 2020 10:49 amBeing born and brought up 15 miles from Leeds, it must be Rovers. In all that time, the hatred of Rovers passed me by completely, I wasn't even aware of it, at all... so I didn't "suffer" when Uncle Jack's money bought them their successes - and it wasn't until the days of Clarets Mad that I first heard all about that. I've honestly still never been able to "hate" any football team, but if I could, Leeds United* would be right up there. So, a Rover win for me today.
*Honourable mentions for Milwall, Cardiff, Chelsea and Gillingham

Re: Who do you want to win today ?
If Rovers lose today, and against Cardiff, they can look forward to another season of Championship mediocrity, well still being heavily subsided by the Venkys, bring it on, then we can pop the champagne corks, and celebrate our big mouth neighbours living in our shadows for yet another year.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Sat Jul 04, 2020 10:48 amAnyone who is happy with Rovers getting 3 points nearer to the play-offs today has to be prepared to accept that they could get then be on course for promotion.

Re: Who do you want to win today ?
A valid point from the poster further up though. With Derby losing, Rovers could very well beat Cardiff and if they also win today, will get 6 out of 6 and likely move either into 6th place, or be only a point behind them.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 04, 2020 1:59 pmIf Rovers lose today, and against Cardiff, they can look forward to another season of Championship mediocrity, well still being heavily subsided by the Venkys, bring it on, then we can pop the champagne corks, and celebrate our big mouth neighbours living in our shadows for yet another year.
Derby really needed to win the earlier kickoff for it to be ok for Rovers to win.

Typical Derby though once they get within sight of the play-offs, they develop a nosebleed. Once a bottler, always a bottler with that mob.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sat Jul 04, 2020 2:05 pmA valid point from the poster further up though. Re: Who do you want to win today ?
They're not alone. Fulham had umpteen chances to get into the top 2. As soon as they could smell it, they'd lose. If Leeds dropped points, they would drop points. That's a big reason why WBA and Leeds are top 2 - nobody else wanted automatic promotion.
Re: Who do you want to win today ?
How times change. Clarets fans wanting Rivers to win!!!!! Never have and never will want them to win unless it helps us. Todays result has no relevance to us. Hope Leeds crush em

Re: Who do you want to win today ?
It could help us, if it meant the unlikely situation of Leeds not going up, as they'll be likely a side who won't drop back down next season. I assumed that's why some people wanted Rovers to win.

Precisely Leeds are coming up anyway, i can tolerate that, but the thought of them, and Rovers coming up in the same season, doesn't bear thinking about.

Re: Who do you want to win today ?
Just imgaine if the play off final was ever Derby vs PNE.
The ultimate Battle of the Bridesmaids.
It might go on all evening as both sides tried their best to not get promoted. Just imagine ... a 0-0 draw folowed by extra time of sides trying desperately to keep up the respective club traditions of bottling promotion.
All hell breaks loose when a PNE player makes a break - for his own goal! He's chopped down by Rooney who immediately launches the ball back to the safety of the his own half.
Much later on, the referee decides to abandon the match after the 100th straight miss from the penalty spot in sudden death. The ball blazes over for the final time and everybody trudges home safe in the knowledge that Championship football is secure for both teams for another season.

Phew!
Cardiff score at last
With no one in the hunt for 6th place winning, it was looking as though the Rovers (almost inevitable) defeat wouldn't be too damaging, but a Rovers loss and Cardiff win makes a 6 point swing ahead of the big game at Cardiff mid-week
