Mee Injury
Didn’t watch the pre-match build up. Any information on Mee’s injury or how long he’s out?

Thanks. Hope it’s just a precaution! Anyone see who was marking Sharp for the goal? Son turned it straight over to F1...!

We are safe now. No need to rush him back. Plus we get a good look at Kevin Long. I’ve seen some calling him but I thought he was fine.

Long did today what he always does for us... comes in, gets amongst it. No fuss, no frills, just ever dependable.

Long comes in and does a job. He’s not Ben Mer though and if Mee is out for the rest of the season it’s a big miss.

No problem with Long filling in for the odd game here and there. I'd be concerned if we had to rely on him for a long stretch of games though

We're doing damn well considering this raft of injuries. One (or two) after another.

I've heard we are going to call him back but he won't play without his Boro shirt under his Burnley shirt, It's a real shame as PL rules state he isn't allowed to do that.northeastclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 05, 2020 2:59 pmLooks like a call is needed for prodigal son Ben Gibson

Longy played well but should have snuffed out Egan but where had Bardsley gone. There was no one marking Egan as he was unmarked as he scored.
A poor goal to give away after we looked likely to win

Re: Mee Injury
Just watched it back on my phone. Hard to see from
The angle, but looked like Tarks was marking nobody at the back, Bards got drawn in and left Egan, leaving the unmarking Tarks to try and dive in to get a last ditch tackle. Great finish, tbf.
Re: Mee Injury
Mee was at the game in track suit and mask
Re: Mee Injury
It was Tarkowski who was caught in no man's land for their goal.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 05, 2020 3:11 pmLongy played well but should have snuffed out Egan but where had Bardsley gone. There was no one marking Egan as he was unmarked as he scored.

I would like to see Long in a position in which he gets regular first team football whether it's with us or another club. He seems to be too good a player to be an understudy for the most part over ten years.matttheclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 05, 2020 2:52 pmNo problem with Long filling in for the odd game here and there. Shows how lucky we have been with injuries. I agree about Long going out on short term loans-bear in mind it was his first PL start today this season

Re: Mee Injury
But Long keeps signing new contracts with us, so he's clearly happy. It's not that easy trying to find someone good enough to step in and play, but willing to accept unless someone gets injured they're only gonna get to play 2 or 3 cup games a season. The Gibson saga proves that.

Kevin Long came in again today and did what was expected of him, just as he has done in his ten years with us, He's been a fantastic servant to this club, undemonstrative, dependable and willing, despite his lack of opportunities.

Hopefully, Long will have the competitive mentality instilled in him to see this as an opportunity - to keep Ben Mee out the side when he returns from injury.BigRedrose wrote: ↑Sun Jul 05, 2020 3:56 pmKevin Long came in again today and did what was expected of him, just as he has done in his ten years with us, He's been a fantastic servant to this club, undemonstrative, dependable and willing, despite his lack of opportunities.

+1, I would think Long is a valuable member of the squad and probably makes a comfortable living. That type of player must be hard to come by.
Re: Mee Injury
What is the update on Gibson? Are we paying him? I accept I have not been keeping up to date since late February due to one thing or another!!
Re: Mee Injury
We'll still be paying him, he's just been banished up to Boro to train. Probably 40 grand a week that we may as well be flushing down the toilet.

on Mee + Cork - Dyche said:

Re: Mee Injury
The disappointing thing is, if you look at our squad, there's a decent few who've been in the same position as Gibson; having to wait for their chance. Pope, Tarkowski, Taylor, Westwood etc all had to to patiently wait for an opportunity where they weren't playing. Over a season in some cases. They all did and are now reaping the rewards and are ever presents.
It's a shame Gibson wasn't of this mindset because this would have been his chance to impress.

Re: Mee Injury
But Gibson probably realised he was in a no win situation. Even if he came in and played really well there's no way Dyche would leave Ben Mee out once he was back.

Re: Mee Injury
You're right. And it's a test of character - something that SD had made players take. Vydra is a prime example of someone who passed it. As a manager that must be massive.matttheclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 05, 2020 4:30 pmThe disappointing thing is, if you look at our squad, there's a decent few who've been in the same position as Gibson; having to wait for their chance. What he's being paid isn't relevant really - what is relevant is that it is better for him that he's not at Burnley and it is very much better for Burnley FC that he's not here too.

Maybe time to get him back in the fold seeing as he’s now got a chance to start games. Needs to be sent out on loan this coming season and sold if he’s not going to play for us again , recoup some money.
Would love to know the story behind his disappearance

Precisely. What you’re basically saying is we have a bunch of top professionals and then Gibson.matttheclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 05, 2020 4:30 pmThe disappointing thing is, if you look at our squad, there's a decent few who've been in the same position as Gibson; having to wait for their chance. You’d think over the time he’s been here he’d either have observed that professionalism or a few might’ve had a word in his ear, but either way, he acted like a spoiled child because he didn’t get his move to Watford.
To be honest, just makes me prouder of the rest.

I think you might have previously mentioned that we were close to selling him in the January transfer window. Any idea if we are expecting to recoup a reasonable amount of money for him? Or are we resigned to a much smaller fee? Sure that getting him off the wage bill will be a big helpClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jul 05, 2020 5:29 pmWhat he's being paid isn't relevant really - what is relevant is that it is better for him that he's not at Burnley and it is very much better for Burnley FC that he's not here too.
