Cork & Mee our for the season

Post by ClaretTony » Sun Jul 05, 2020 4:12 pm

Looks as though they will be out. Cork facing surgery on his ankle while Mee suffered a thigh injury in training that is not a quick one to recover from.

Grim news let's hope they are ready for the start of next season.

Gives Brownhill a real run of games then in midfield. Shame for Ben and Corky though

The worry is also that with the likely short break between seasons, they might be struggling to be ready for the first games of the next one.

we have nothing to play for now. lets give the young ones a try. you never know, we might find a gem. in addition it gives some of the boys a well earned rest.

Incredible run of injuries we're having at the moment.

Brownhill looks an excellent buy so I've got no problems seeing him step into CM for a while. CB is a real worry.

Isn't every finishing position at the end of the season worth £2mill more that the one below? If so, there's plenty to play for!

what's a few million if we find the next McNeil. we could save a lot more in the long run. would like to see Benson involved. he's had good reviews.

Looks like JBG and Wood back in contention. Cork and Mee and maybe Pieters our. Brady ? McNeil and Taylor looked shattered today. It’s gonna a tough last 5 but more importantly we need everybody fit for next season which ain’t far away.

I know it's important to finish as high as possible, but I'm quite happy to look towards next season now. Get some game time in for Wood, JBG, Brady etc, and hope they stay fit. By all means give a couple of youngsters a few minutes on the pitch but let's make sure we have a fully fit squad ready for next season, which may not be too long off.

If we get beat by Liverpool but draw the other four (or more), then that is some season for the club

If we’ve got the next McNeil, he’ll work his way through anyway. I hope we are trying to get as high up as possible and getting the extra money it brings.

Every penny makes a difference to us, when we are already at a disadvantage to pretty much all of the division.

If we miss out on a player for the sake of a million or two, I can’t see many, if any saying it’s OK, we gave Benson a game.

It would be a step forward to beat the 54 points and 14 wins of two seasons back.
Hopefully missing the rest of the season doesn’t turn into long term.
Transfer window will be interesting.

Cork & Mee our for the season: That's bad news and I suspect scuppers
any chance of finishing in the top eight.
In terms of bringing in a few of our youngsters then Dyche might not have
much choice given we're short in most areas.
Could he bring back Gibson? Suspect not but might be worth trying?

And look at our games including: West Ham, Wolves, Norwich and Brighton.

This was a game where the wheels could have come off.

Gibson might be ruing throwing his toys out the pram. This would have been his chance.

Gibson would have got his chance but you can only throw your toys out of the pram as long as the parents put them back for you.

So with that logic we never give a chance to a young player, they don't even get opportunity in Cup games, this begs the question, why are we wasting time and money on an academy

Last August I thought we would finish 11th and I will stick by that, especially now with our injuries and weak squad.

Do the club actually benifit from a higher finish or do the benifts go to the players?

I think I read that when we ended 7th, the bonuses we handed out exceeded the money we got

I also think that the extra money for each position has been reduced this season due to Covid, I am not sure if the players bonuses have been affected, if not we could be worse off

I get the impression a good chunk of the extra prize money disappears on bonuses, so not sure it really matters.

I think we've done very well this season. Fortunately we were safe pre-lockdown because it's got crazy injury-wise.

I’m not suggesting that youth should never get a chance. It must be at the right time though, for them and the first XI.

Rushing them in now, isn’t necessarily the right thing to do.

Both key members of the unit and both will be sorely missed. For me Corky is always the first outfield player to be picked, and we most certainly missed his industry today.

Despite the lengthy enforced lay-off, Jack Cork and Ben Mee owe us nothing after their efforts this season, they need to concentrate on being fit for the start of next season, as we are 19 ( Nineteen ) points clear of the relegation zone, with 5 games to go .... ;)

No point in busting a gut to finish in 8th when the club gain nothing financially.

I think Dyche will now whind this season down and prepare for the new season, programmed to KO mid September.

We will need to hit the ground running in September with a fully fit squad, to do this he won't risk players that aren't 100% fit

Next season will be tougher without the likes of Norwich, Bournemouth and Watford, who now look favourites for the drop

A huge blow - I fear we won’t now get any more points in the remaining games and may be VERY embarrassed at Anfield.

3 games a week, “rusty” sick-note players coming back from long-term injuries, four players out for the season and no squad depth.

Gibson, Hendrick and Lennon would all have played a major part if they had honoured/extended their contracts.

Yes, we are safe but we now have to play the same players, out of position (probably for the full 90) in five pressure games.

There is a HUGE risk of key players picking up Mee/ Cork type injuries and/ or being unavailable or exhausted for the new season.

This is of course down to rank bad luck, but it’s also down to poor recruitment and bad management. IMO it would be catastrophic if the manager left now.

The only bright light is that we are unlikely to be burdened by another European campaign.

On the plus side if you do a rolling acca on us to lose every game left this season you will pick up a decent return
