Summer season
With the success of football returning and so far summer seeming to be one factor in keeping the virus on a downward, would you be against football returning next year in front of crowds but with a summer season?
If the virus has not entirely disappeared by then I think it’s the best way to safely get crowds back.
Less need for public transport due to better weather.
Pubs open for outdoor drinking saves it spreading inside.
No abandoned games for weather. Or dangerous conditions outside in inside stadiums.
No playing at stoke on a Tuesday in December.
Apart from the traditional Christmas Schedule I don’t think I’d miss winter football as much as I’d love summer football.

Re: Summer season
I certainly wouldn't dismiss the idea out of hand.
The only reason we seem to have continued with the August - May schedule is out of tradition.
The biggest opponents of such a radical overhaul though would probably be the cricket clubs!

Not for me, footy is one of the few things that makes winter bearable. Summer is for cricket and golf.

Re: Summer season
You forgot one small issue, what about the Euro's next Summer, when would that get played?
I'm not against it per se, but i doubt it'll be a regular event, as has been stated it'd impose on the cricket season for a start. And the other big Summer events that people enjoy.
Plus a lot of folks plan their holidays around the fixtures, and make sure they take their annual break before the season commences.
The problem as ever is nobody knows how this virus will pan out in a month, let alone a year down the line, so no forward planning can be put in place, it's all very much on a game by game basis even now.

Re: Summer season
CFC - small issue of the EURO's and the big issue of TV schedules for the broadcasters that pay over 60% of all Premier League revenues, those summer schedules are already full will content already contracted for - if you vacate the winter schedules purposely - that have already been contracted for you would expect massive rebates - certainly over £1billion and probably closer to £3billion as the action would be a deliberate breach of contract

Re: Summer season
Precisely. Burnley FC is the only thing that stops me spending winters abroad.

Re: Summer season
Play cricket after the games. Not a cricket fan. But imagine Burnley 12 kick off followed by Burnley cricket club match straight after. Win win for both.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 7:29 pmI certainly wouldn't dismiss the idea out of hand.

Re: Summer season
Think that is what he/she was alluding too.
I presume it’s just in December?!?. The league will take abit of rescheduling for it, league cup a little. But as the FA Cup round 3 is January and the european comps normally done for the year early December is won’t take nothing major. Probably a few more mid week games before and after the World Cup.

Re: Summer season
Rugby League has already gone to the Summer programme. If football went also there’d be nothing but Rugby Union for Winter, they’d love it but not me.

Re: Summer season
I'd agree it's a winter sport, but with modern pitches, and the habit of calling games off at the first sign of snow, it seems hard to call it a winter sport anymore.

Re: Summer season
No way we also need to scrap the split matches nonsense tried last year as a Winter break.
I look forward to the Xmas games and that was a plus in the Championship
I'd scrap the European games before alternatives are considered

Re: Summer season
There's little excuse to call off a game these days. Especially at elite level. Under soil heating etc. It's a winter sport. If people missed football in Spring/early summer. Imagine how stir-crazy we'd be in winter!Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 12:22 amI'd agree it's a winter sport, but with modern pitches, and the habit of calling games off at the first sign of snow, it seems hard to call it a winter sport anymore.
