I like the idea of military helicopters enforcing local lockdowns, gunning down any desperate citizens trying to cross from Intack into Knuzden.

A variety of military helicopters pass over east lancs regularly on their designated route up to various training areas in north Pennines etc.Puma, Merlin, Chinook even occasional apache, sometimes Bell or Eurocopters from Shawbury training base in Shropshire .

I was staying next to RAF Woodvale in Southport over the weekend and a few helicopters were setting off Monday morning. Could it be related to the armed police exercises in East Lancs this week?

Back when I still had a motorcycle, I was riding up from Sedbergh over to Hawes and just as I reached the watershed at Garsdale Head and rode under the viaduct, 3 Apache Helicopters flew over in close formation at about 100ft (or so it felt) & frightened the living sh*t out of me .clansman wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 3:24 pmA variety of military helicopters pass over east lancs regularly on their designated route up to various training areas in north Pennines etc.Puma, Merlin, Chinook even occasional apache, sometimes Bell or Eurocopters from Shawbury training base in Shropshire .

Re: Military helicopters circling Blackburn
Once got "buzzed" by a Tornado over the Snake Pass whilst riding my motorbike some years ago. I could hear some kind of noise, looked in my mirrors, nothing, then... WHHHHHHOOOOOOOOSHHHHHH ! And I don't mean Ray Deakin Bike had a wobble. Not sure whether it was the aftershock from the aircraft or me just having a twitch !Bosscat wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 5:03 pmBack when I still had a motorcycle, I was riding up from Sedbergh over to Hawes and just as I reached the watershed at Garsdale Head and rode under the viaduct, 3 Apache Helicopters flew over in close formation at about 100ft (or so it felt) & frightened the living sh*t out of me .

Dropping down to Tebay services, towing a caravan, got buzzed by a low flying jet. I could have crapped mesen and thank goodness for the stabiliser on the tow hitch. We got a wobble on.

When I lived near Banbury, A10 Warthogs from RAF Upper Heyford would do 'strafing runs on vehicles driving along the country roads. Felt like they were no more than 50 feet above your car roof when they turned on their afterburners to climb away!RalphCoatesComb wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 5:22 pmOnce got "buzzed" by a Tornado over the Snake Pass whilst riding my motorbike some years ago. The backwash from the engines was incredible too.Andreshotboots wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 7:47 pmConcorde taking off got me a couple of times when driving past Heathrow..One noisy bugger..

Re: Military helicopters circling Blackburn
I've seen these videos and apparently they are fake and made using Microsoft Office Excel PowerPoint 2003 on a Mac using a student license.
I find it highly unusual that you of all people have mentioned helicopters when you can't even ******* pilot one.
Mince beef? Today was a fifteen mile hike from John O'Nassis to Jackie Kennedy.

Re: Military helicopters circling Blackburn
Sadly I'm working in Blackburn town centre at the moment, and saw them. Really quite impressive to be fair. They weren't chinook's, I think they may have been Puma's no idea what they were upto they were quite low over the mall and moving at quite some speed. I filmed it on phone but don't know how to post the vid.
Re: Military helicopters circling Blackburn
The A10 is a great plane but it does not have afterburners.

I seem to recall a low passing Tornado triggering a speed camera and the local council sent the ticket to the RAF base.RalphCoatesComb wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 5:22 pmOnce got "buzzed" by a Tornado over the Snake Pass whilst riding my motorbike some years ago. Re: Military helicopters circling Blackburn
It sure sounded like it had, though. Apparently the STOL feature creates a very similar sound environment, especially as the exhust is tilted 9% downwards to assist in reducing the aircraft's infrared signature
