White kit tonight to combat colour blindness
White kit tonight to combat colour blindness
We are in white tonight not the green away kit as there were too many complaints from colour blind viewers after the Liverpool v Villa.

Re: White kit tonight to combat colour blindness
If you look at the other thread I've said it is nothing to do with Liverpool v Villa. That game was played last Sunday but we'd been told by the Premier League that we couldn't wear our green kit some time before that.
Re: White kit tonight to combat colour blindness
Any idea why we cant use green then ?
Seems strange we cant use one of our approved away kits.

Careful Funky do you mean albino.
Is albino allowed now? I bet it will be the next one to go, or maybe fat, obese, will get there first.

Well I'm left handed and am at a distinct disadvantage and prejudiced against in many spheres.
So, I think that should be right up there for a campaign. Left handers matter !!!
It does have some advantages though - they don't like us at tennis or cricket, that's for sure.

I'm with you Funky! I am also naturally left handed, however, I was made to change to writing right handed when I started school in 1951. Nobody to campaign about things that didn't matter in those days! It did help me to become ambidextrous in time and that has been a real bonus.Funkydrummer wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 12:49 pmWell I'm left handed and am at a distinct disadvantage and prejudiced against in many spheres.

Err, I was born 1953. I'm told I always held pencil/crayon in my left hand and my mother always switched it to my right. I'd claim I was good with both feet and that's what really matters.Funkydrummer wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 1:08 pmOh, how I would give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

Re: White kit tonight to combat colour blindness
I can understand to a point.
Last season I was Assistant referee for a game where the home club had launched their new home kit. Red and green quarters. The opposition was playing in what can only be described as silvery grey.
As this game was played under floodlights (and not the best quality ones I must add) against a dark background picking out the strikers involvement on the far side of the pitch (60 yards away) was unbelievably difficult for someone who is red green colour blind.
Thankfully the one really tight call that afterwards I was doubting my judgement was able to be reviewed on camera confirming my decision was absolutely perfect. It does play on your mind for long periods of the game especially if that turned out to be the winning goal which it was.
Oh and I am left handed too lol

Re: White kit tonight to combat colour blindness
As a colour blindness sufferer I am genuinely made up about this.
I can't explain how frustrating watching a game is when you cant quite tell the difference. Sometimes you can see the difference, sometimes it's almost like a flickery/shiny blur.
When I used to play too this used to be really problematic.
Pleased about this

Interesting choice, will this be less hassle? Will you have to travel more than previously? All new to me! loldpinsussex wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 3:40 pmNot any more. Specialist Assistant route chosen

I used to wear contacts to play during my later years (from 1978) but used to wear spectacles when officiating.
Good luck!

Re: White kit tonight to combat colour blindness
I prefer the line rather than the middle. Getting older it is a bit easier on the body too. I am also a lot better at it. Tried the FIFA AR fitness test last week and passed it comfortably. Hope for me yet.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 4:37 pmInteresting choice, will this be less hassle? Will you have to travel more than previously? All new to me! lol

Travel- drove 4500 miles last season and that doesn't include the miles that the referee drove when he picked us up for joint travel. Reckon well over 6500 if those were included. This is still supposed to be a hobby lol
I keep getting told that glasses are not appropriate to officiate in at any level and I believe the body image/ appearance links to the player and spectator perception of your ability to do your job.
Wonder how the members of this board would feel if they saw a match official at the Turf wearing glasses??

Re: White kit tonight to combat colour blindness
So prejudice has even found its way into the realms of officialdom! At least, when you are wearing spectacles and you are questioned as to the validity of your eyesight, you can turn round and say that you had your eyes tested and your vision is perfect with your specs. I found that it helped to diffuse the situation sometimes and it was always a good bit of banter!.dpinsussex wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 5:32 pmI prefer the line rather than the middle. Re: White kit tonight to combat colour blindness
Taffy, from memory. I don't think that Black Lives Matter were around in those days. All I will say is that, nowadays, if I was made to change hands in order to write the Human Rights lot would have been all over it! We did not have them to worry about in 1951 ---life was good and you got on with things.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 4:47 pmAre you suggesting # Black lives Matter doesn't matter?
Expect nothing and you will never be disappointed! Don't worry about anything which you can't influence ---two things that my mother told me over 60 years ago and they still hold good for me. I am never, ever, down in the dumps no matter what the world throws at me ---lucky aren't I?

Well, never knew that and I started school well before you Ash and was never made to write with my pen/pencil/chalk in my right hand. Of course civilisation came to Burnley a few years before Oswaldtwistle and with a name like that why wouldn't it.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 1:05 pmI'm with you Funky! Of course we are at a disadvantage joking apart. Scissors are a good example as well as the old pen nibs and we would be much better if we wrote right to left. Some potato peelers are not left hand orientated. Whilst being a leftie at footie, tennis, I am righty at golf, cricket as batter but not bowling throwing and I use a spoon to stir my tea.

There are specs that apparently correct for this, have you tried them to see if they help-start at around £70Awayfromburnley wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 3:55 pmAs a colour blindness sufferer I am genuinely made up about this.

Perhaps the FA should clarify what their conditions are at the start of the season and we could then ensure that no two teams have to bother with this again.
It surely can't be too difficult to make away and home tops different whilst avoiding colour blindness problems.

Yes mdd2, I agree about scissors, pen nibs, potato peelers etc., however, you really are all mixed up being a lefty at this and a rightie at the other.mdd2 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 9:44 amWell, never knew that and I started school well before you Ash and was never made to write with my pen/pencil/chalk in my right hand. I am a natural leftie at everything! By the way, coming from Ossie, as I do, could you tell me ---what is a spoon?

Re: White kit tonight to combat colour blindness
If this is true then it’s clearly a good thing. And as Rowls says there should be clearer guidelines for clubs. I’m not colour blind but I’ve struggled before when a team in very sky blue is up against a team in white.
