Paul Weller - On Sunset (New Album)
This long player came out last week and I've got to say (although most will think I would say it given my username ) its a quite sublime listen. Imo opinion Wellers most complete work since 2008s 22 Dreams.
Its the 1st time since the release of that album 12 years ago that I've had a new Weller album on constant loop since its release, it really is that good.
Its on course to be Wellers 1st number one album in 8 years too and my word its deserved such is its quality.
It amazes me how after all this time Weller keeps trying to invent and involve, pushing forwards. All right some of the studio releases this century have been patchy in parts, but you can't argue with someone who's prepared to keep trying different things.
There isn't many artists around who produce original albums with original material who've had a number 1 album across 6 decades afterall

Have a good few but not recent. I’ll get it on your recommendation.

Was wondering whether to invest and I will now based on your comments. I agree with your overall comments. I thought Saturn's Pattern was great personally and enjoyed his "quiet"nlast album True Meanings too. Went to see him at Greenwich Naval College last year and he was superb.

Love his song that’s on the Radio 2 plsylist at the moment. ‘Village’ I think.

I think i'll give it a go then... fan of Weller anyway, although not everything he's done. New single sounds good tho so if the album is as you say, i'll check it out.

I wouldn't class myself as a huge Weller fan but I think the quality of his work over umpteen decades has been consistently good and he's penned/performed some classic tracks.
I've seen some good reviews of this latest album, Ill probably get it.
(Looking at itunes, I see I've got 7 of his albums, I'd guess about half of his output as a solo artist; Ive never seen him live though- believe he's pretty good).

Heavy Soul was the last album I bought of his. Has he had any more since?
Will give this a listen.

Wellernut
see this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ss9cYa7WfbQ
also in the official video his late Dad (and manager) appears on a billboard with also his son in the shot.
He seems to be joining circles as many elder artists do. No bad thing at all.
But that voice is still there alright!

Re: Paul Weller - On Sunset (New Album)
The last time I saw Weller was on the release of Wake Up The Nation at the Empress Ballroom. I'd been to watch him at the same venue on the release of 22 Dreams. I have no intention of going to watch him live again. As a live performer he is a spent force. Too many good young bands out there to see to waste my time watching an old fella going through the motions, treating his audiences with disdain. I was and still am a fan of those 6 albums released by The Jam, as well as some of the stuff since. I first saw The Jam in 1977 and they had me hooked.

Re: Paul Weller - On Sunset (New Album)
I can't profess to being a big Weller fan although I do own a copy of Wild Wood which I think is excellent and his best solo work. More so as it's heavily influenced by Traffic. This album really is extremely good with echoes of Bowie and Traffic and very much a mellow west coast America feel. My favourite track is Rockets which is very Bowie esque. Very well produced and well worthy of a listen.
