Yes, it is. It's 16 I think. That wasn't my point. My point was that we're level apart from 'Goals for'.

Atrocious pen decision for ManU. Fernandes stops the ball then steps on the AV defender. No attempt to foul him.

Man U 1 up vs Villa
Re: Footy 9/7/20
Why can't the VAR official see that. We can on tv and the commentators also say it shouldn't be a penalty. Is it that VAR doesn't want to disagree with the match referee?

Unbelievable that, what is the point of VAR. UTD player fouls the villa right back and UTD get a penalty.

I agree, that was never a penalty for Man Utd.

I think Fernandez is a brilliant player but if I was him I would be terribly embarrassed to get that penalty.

But he won't be embarrassed. He did it on purpose and will be pleased with himself. Probably get a nice bonus payment as much as most of us get in a month.

Re: Footy 9/7/20
'penalty' came moments after Villa squandered a golden chance, shows how cruel this game can be, you'd almost think the powers that be wanted Man Utd to finish top 4. Funny how Utd always get the 50/50 calls isn't it.

Re: Footy 9/7/20
No, it's not. They have conceded two less than us but it's irrelevant. Actually the difference in 'goals for' is 14 and it's only 'goals for' that count now. 'Goal difference' went out years ago. Prior to that it was 'Goal average' which was very difficult to work out.
The point is that we are level on points in the chase for Europe and they play Arsenal this week-end, so they won't have it any easier than us at Anfield.

VAR proving once again that the only people who should be doing it are ex players, never in 100 years is that a penalty - they forensically look at offsides, one look and we can all tell that Fernandez plants his foot on the Villa players leg - it's ******* shambolic

I am amazed if that is true. I thought “goal difference” was still more important than “goals for”. I stand to be corrected.

No wonder FIFa are taking control over the league's VAR.
I mean we already know Jon Moss is not fit for purpose but VAR has to overrule that.

Re: Footy 9/7/20
From Premierleague.com
“Head-to-head records
If two or more clubs finish level in the table when competing for the title or European qualification, or when relegation is at stake, their records in the head-to-head matches will now be used to separate them.
In previous seasons, teams involved in these specific battles who finished with the same points total, goal difference and number of goals scored would be pitted against each other in a playoff.
But that extra match is now less likely.
In 2019/20 the team who have collected the most points in the head-to-head duels between the sides lying level on points, goal difference and number of goals scored, will take the highest finishing position, while the team with the fewest will take the lowest place.
If clubs still cannot be separated, the team who scored the most goals away from home in the head-to-head matches will get the highest position.
Only if the clubs remain level in the table after this will a playoff be arranged, at a neutral ground, with the format, timing and venue being determined by the Premier League Board.“
Therefore goal difference is first thing considered when points are level.

Re: Footy 9/7/20
Having just checked Wiki, you are right to a point. 'Goal difference' is still the main arbitor but in the event of a tie, then goals for, comes into play.
Consequently, Spurs have a superior 'goal difference' of 16 over us.

2-0 Utd young Greenwood again, he must be in Gareth's thoughts for the next England squad.
Re: Footy 9/7/20
Bet Tom is regretting his move. Injury and relegation. Feel a bit sorry for him tbh
Re: Footy 9/7/20
How good a player does he look ? Balance, great touch, 2 footed, pace.
He leathered that goal in with his so called weaker foot.
Only 18 but he’s good enough for England squad right now.

Re: Footy 9/7/20
Exactly. Fernandes, running forward, stops the ball just outside the area/maybe just touching the line, jumps over the ball into the defender who is legitimately standing there. If it's a foul its a free kick to Villa. Very bad decision by the ref, even worse by the VAR officials.
Re: Footy 9/7/20
Just need a feisty 0-0 North London derby draw at the weekend. Even with the expected defeat at Anfield we will be in a great position. Worst we can finish is 14th and that is highly unlikely. 3 winnable games to come after Liverpool and we have nothing to lose there. More pressure on them in a strange sort of way

Why not if your good enough your old enough, and they're both good enough, if they weren't Ole and Pep wouldn't trust them in these big games.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 9:17 pmLooking very good. He and Foden will surely be in the next England squad.
There might well be a few England regulars worrying about their places, good some need a kick up the butt, and if Foden and Greenwood can do that all the better.

Blimey. Look at the penalty picture on the BBC sports site- looks like it should be a red for Fernandes on that.LeadBelly wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 9:23 pmExactly. Says it all doesn't it. VAR was supposed to cut out biased refereeeing but it clearly hasn't done.
Anything Man Ure claim for they seem to get.
Get shut of VAR. It wastes time and hasn't improved the game enough to be worth the long waits.

Re: Footy 9/7/20
That penalty decision is one of the worst I've seen. Villa player gets stamped on so United get a penalty. I hate to say it, but no surprise it was John Moss, the master of really, really bad decisions.

The market dictating the likes of Grealish for 70 million allows us to put a 50 million price on Dwight McNeil though. Easily. It's to our benefit, strangely.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 9:51 pmHe's a good player but nowhere near Man Utd and 70 million pound quality

Sure there may be trouble ahead but I cannot understand why you insist I desist on the contrary.

Man U. paid £80 million for Maguire who isn't even close to the quality of Van Dyke.
