Gymnastics accusations?
Gymnastics accusations?

Firstly, I don't agree with abuse and bullying from coaches but why does the boss of British Athletics feel the need to say "she's appalled and ashamed" before they've even investigated and reviewed the evidence. It's like she feels the need to apologise and say something to distance herself from it.
I love the internet for things like this forum and online shopping but two things spoil it for me. Pop up adverts and the endless complaints and negativity on the news and social media which they seem to highlight and focus on rather than the positive and good things that happen.

Re: Gymnastics accusations?
What I can't understand is why people, or in this instance gymnasts, wait until their careers are over before making these accusations?

Re: Gymnastics accusations?
Coaches driving kids too hard so they can win - the sort of things we have been criticising communist countries for doing.
Compare gymnastics now to even just 30 years ago and the ridiculous physical demands together with the rewards for being an elite competitor, then it doesn’t come as a surprise.
What were the parents doing?

Re: Gymnastics accusations?
Is it possible to deliver competitive edge and be pink and fluffy? I suppose our own Sean Dyche shows you can be a very demanding boss whilst generating a positive atmosphere.
A very difficult balance though, some people will get wrong.

Re: Gymnastics accusations?
Football, swimming, gymnastics it appears there are evil abusers in too many sports.
The problem being these pervs have a sixth sense for which kids won’t speak out.
Education in schools is slowly turning the tide, thankfully.

Re: Gymnastics accusations?
I don’t think this has anything to do with “pervs” it’s more about coaches shouting and being too demanding, body shaming the athletes if they don’t follow diets and making them compete when they have injuries etchuw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 9:34 amFootball, swimming, gymnastics it appears there are evil abusers in too many sports.

You’ve obviously not heard about Larry Nasser then. Or Barry Bennell? You need to do your homework.Burnley Ace wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 3:50 pmI don’t think this has anything to do with “pervs” it’s more about coaches shouting and being too demanding, body shaming the athletes if they don’t follow diets and making them compete when they have injuries etc

Re: Gymnastics accusations?
Apologies I maybe jumped in without thinking. I thought you were referring to the wider issue of abuse in sport.Burnley Ace wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 4:55 pmWhich British gymnast did Larry Nasser coach? Or Barry Bennell?
