Re: ARTICLE: International full back signs as pre-season gets underway
Good read. Thinking back did many Burnley fans think promotion was possible/likely?
Re: ARTICLE: International full back signs as pre-season gets underway
Memories!
31 was 'past the 30 barrier', in those days. What a great extension to his career, he had with us.
That young guy did well too!

We'd won those last six games in the previous season but Adamson was very unpopular with the fans and I don't think many thought he was ever going to be a success so I don't think we were expecting anything other than another season in the second division to be honest.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 11:28 amGood read. Most fans were optimistic after winning the last six games of the previous season.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 11:28 amGood read. Thinking back did many Burnley fans think promotion was possible/likely?

Hardly - there was very little enthusiasm and a lot of criticism flying round at the pre-season gamesStan Tastic wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 11:49 amMost fans were optimistic after winning the last six games of the previous season.

Didn't Newton play right back v West Germany in the quarter final. He scored England's second goal. Terry Cooper played left back.

He did. That’s my memory playing tricks I think. I’ve corrected it.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 1:27 pmDidn't Newton play right back v West Germany in the quarter final. He scored England's second goal. Terry Cooper played left back.
Re: ARTICLE: International full back signs as pre-season gets underway
For a moment I thought Tripps was coming back
Why post that old news unless you have an inkling that another international right back is joining us in 2020, and no I don’t mean Bardsley

Agree. Certainly the ones I went around with...and by the time we'd turned Wednesday over at Hillsborough..maybe October ish? ..we felt this was our season.Stan Tastic wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 11:49 amMost fans were optimistic after winning the last six games of the previous season.

Re: ARTICLE: International full back signs as pre-season gets underway
Keith Newton was a brilliant signing. Probably one of the best, if not the best full back I seen in our colours. He certainly helped Leighton James to become the player he did with his ability to make space for him.

One of our best ever signings. Up there with taking on a certain centre-forward from Bolton on a free.

I was a student in London that season and recall the win over Sheff Wed. was on MOTD. Great goal by Leighton James and think it might have been Oct.1st.

Re: ARTICLE: International full back signs as pre-season gets underway
We finished the previous season really strongly with 6 wins on the bounce. The team was really settled and Dobson imperious. I really thought they'd go well but in truth it's so long ago....... i can't remember lolJohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 11:28 amGood read. Re: ARTICLE: International full back signs as pre-season gets underway
It didn't start well. Scrambled a 2-2 draw at home v Carlisle. First significant result early season was the 4-1 home win over Villa. Decent results after that lifted spirits but perhaps the most important was away at Villa, early January, and an emphatic 3-0 win. Just kept on picking up points after that with a slight blip pre-Easter and a home defeat to Sheff Wed. and an away one at Forest but ultimately we finished the season in similar fashion to the previous season. Missed a lot of the season due to being in London but very excited at the prospects for 73-74.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 11:28 amGood read.
