Man City Appeal result at 9:30 BST
BBC have done an article about it.
The article also shows how even the team in 9th place could get into the Europa League, although it would require Man City to be banned next season, Wolves to win the Europa League AND the team that wins the fa cup to finish higher than 8th (so Arsenal could ruin that as well).
Let's hope for some good news!

Call me cynical, but I rather think City will be in Europe next year ...

Re: Man City Appeal result at 9:30 BST
Are the BBC correct? I thought that the max a country could have in Europe was 7 teams. They also make the assumption that United will finish in the top 5.
Re: Man City Appeal result at 9:30 BST
Don't think United will mess up now. After all Leicester and Palace haven't.summitclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 7:01 amAre the BBC correct? I thought that the max a country could have in Europe was 7 teams. They also make the assumption that United will finish in the top 5.

Football plummeting towards the depths of corruption IMO.
The authorities are slowly strangling the life out of the game as we knew it.
Disgraceful decision and clearly demonstrates that rules are meant to be broken (without sanction in many, many cases)

Why the fine if they've done nothing illegal ? Beggars belief.

Can someone explain to me how, if they have done nothing wrong, they are still being fined 10m?

Pathetic. Money ruling and ruining football at all levels.
10m won't harm them, but a season without being an active team will do more damage
Farce

Corruption has always been in football. Let’s stop this pretence that football was so much more genuine and beautiful in the past.
Re: Man City Appeal result at 9:30 BST
The court didn't rule they did nothing wrong. They just said they weren't guilty of anything other than being uncooperative with UEFA during the investigation.

Re: Man City Appeal result at 9:30 BST
Honestly, i don't think any club finishing 8th or below should qualify for Europe. It is supposed to be the best clubs from each nation.
If we are to play in Europe we should have earned it.

Rottten to the core. £10m is no punishment as it’s loose change to the oil barons.
Re: Man City Appeal result at 9:30 BST
Is there a more despised club in football?
Re: Man City Appeal result at 9:30 BST
I disagree, but would be for having the Cup berths pass down to the runners up rather than go to the league.ZizkovClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 9:46 amHonestly, i don't think any club finishing 8th or below should qualify for Europe. It is supposed to be the best clubs from each nation.

This is not just about this season it is about every future season.
The owners with the access to the most money will just buy success.

I suspect this means there is no legal barrier to Newcastle being taken over.
That was being looked out, but I presume all rules relating to ownership are out of the window.

Re: Man City Appeal result at 9:30 BST
Qatar getting the World Cup was so ludicrous a decision that it proved beyond doubt that football governance was completely in thrall to the money of the super-rich. This decision just predictably follows the same path.

As a minimum around this, the sentence should have been suspended for 5 years so that they had to clean up their act. Now they are completely off the hook.

John Murray BBC Radio 5 Live.
On whether verdict damages Uefa’s Financial Fair Play rules: “You’d have to say it does. It has gone against Uefa, who wanted to be strong on Financial Fair Play, but this outcome turns the focus back on Uefa, their FFP regulations and the power they have to restrict the increasing power of the superclubs, the superpowers, of European football, and try to make it more of a level playing field, which was the original intention of Financial Fair Play.
“Uefa will have to go back and look at this very carefully because this very directly challenges and undermines the powers Uefa have on that front.”

The court also ruled that some of the charges were more than five years old, which is apparently UEFA's window of opportunity to prosecute.

So a 10 million fine - which is going to be paid whilst receiving 15 million minimum for qualifying for the group stages of the Champions League. (Plus another couple of million for each game they win in the champs league on top)
UEFA LOGIC!!!!

Totally shocked this has been overturned!
Only joking, I'm not in the least bit shocked that another super rich Club has circumvented the rules.

Re: Man City Appeal result at 9:30 BST
People can moan as much as they want, but City have convinced the highest sports court possible that they did not break the rules. And quite frankly, I didnt think there was going to be any other outcome. The rules are the problem, not the decision to follow them. UEFA are the problem here, not City

Re: Man City Appeal result at 9:30 BST
Now we all know why City were so confident, so much for FFP, it clearly only applies to the minions.
It's estimated a run to the qf's, which you'd expect City to manage, will earn them £80-90m, so £10m is hardly likely to harm them.
It's hardly a surprise, the suspicion for several weeks is this would be the outcome. And lo and behold that proved to be the case.
Makes Leicester's defeat yesterday all the more damaging.

Re: Man City Appeal result at 9:30 BST
I'm absolutely staggered. I'm more annoyed at myself for being so naive to think the decision would be a moral one. Another nail in the coffin for the sport and apart from bfc, I'm literally done with the game on a professional level. I'd sooner go and watch cricket or padiham.
