Re: transfer window
It sounds like the 20/21 season might start on the weekend of 12th/13th September. So that would leave 3 weeks after the start of the new season to get players in - was the last time this happened the 16/17 season?

Re: transfer window
Hate that whole situation where the season starts and you’re at risk of losing players. Hope they vote to close window mid September.

Should just follow Europe, to avoid complications.

Re: transfer window
The flip side of that is that it feels like it's a little easier to attract players or get deals done once the season is a couple of weeks old. Some players aren't getting a game and are looking for a move...whereas before a ball has even been kicked everyone has a chance of playing.
Re: transfer window
Can Jeff Hendrick sign for others now, or is he still tied to us? ...surprised no interest been reported.

You know with us though we’ll start with the same team and then end up panicking and bringing in some loan signings with a week to go!!Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 1:37 pmThe flip side of that is that it feels like it's a little easier to attract players or get deals done once the season is a couple of weeks old. I’d rather we just draw it sooner so the club knows they have to crack on!

Re: transfer window
3rd choice goalie and 4th choice CB required. Anything else is a bonus assuming we don't lose anyone.
Not even worth taking note of when they end it IMO.

Re: transfer window
that is what those dates suggest - UEFA wants the window closed on October 5th so it's competitions are not compromised after the group stage draw
a Premier League 10 week window also allows a further 2 weeks to buy from the EFL exclusively post October 5th - if that EFL proposal comes to fruition

Re: transfer window
SD wasn't talking like he just requires a 3rd choice GK or 4th choice CB in today's Press Conference. At the end of it, he spoke about trying to sign more rounded players (rather than ones who grow into the group) if finances allow. Appreciate that's a big 'if' but I think it's clear we need more than just that.
Re: transfer window
We probably voted to skip it this year.

Re: transfer window
Was it three summers back when we spent between 30 and 40 million? It would n't surprise me if we do the same this time.
Mike Garlick is a canny businessman, and he knows that there will be some clubs struggling at the moment, and they might release some players for a lot less than they would have done if not for Covid 19. If we can get hold of two or three decent ones, they coulld be worth at least double in 18 months to two years.

Re: transfer window
Given that they'd already voted to scrap the closing of it before the season started and revert back to 31st August, I don't think they will be closing it until a date in October.

Re: transfer window
Yes, realise they won’t. A 6-7 week window would be too short, but would reduce our chances of losing anyone.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 3:53 pmGiven that they'd already voted to scrap the closing of it before the season started and revert back to 31st August, I don't think they will be closing it until a date in October.
Think the vote on this, restart date and fans in ground is next Friday so should find out soon.
Re: transfer window
Have France, Belgium, Holland etc who knocked off early set a date to start their new season yet? Part of their argument early on was because they'd have to play behind closed doors, since nothing has changed on that score, have their minds changed instead?

Re: transfer window
Provided that the Board feel able/confident to release the necessary money, I think that BFC might have better success in attracting players than in recent years insofar as:
There will me more players available than usual, particularly from the lower leagues which aren't underpinned to the same degree as EPL clubs by TV income in balancing their books
There will be less competition trying to buy those available players as all teams who don't have European commitments to fullfil are likely to be looking to decrease rather than increase, or even maintain their current squad sizes.
After another top-half finish, Burnley will be perceived by both players and their agents as a decent bet with regards to remaining in the EPL at the end of next season and perhaps more importantly, their financial stability makes them more likely to honour any signed contract
We're given to understand that BFC have little/zero debt to service, certainly less than any other EPL club and as our match-day earnings must be one of, if not the lowest in the EPL, then playing in front of reduced/zero spectators will have a proportionally smaller effect on our future income. Furthermore, our operating structure is not dependent upon regular cash-injections from sugar-daddy owners; the economic fallout from Covid-19 is worldwide and hitting virtually all industries, so if the earnings of those billionaire club owners' core businesses are reduced, so too will be the amount of cash they're able or prepared to pump into their footballing subsidiary/hobby business. make no mistake, BFC too are going to be 'poorer' than we'd have hoped/envisaged, but we will be comparatively wealthier when measured against the competition.

Re: transfer window
I feel in the past, if players/agents listened to pundits etc. they would have thought coming to BFC would entail a relegation dog fight but just maybe now that perception will be broken by having statistics and this run firmly in the back of the mind and help a little, perhaps tip the balance in our favour if measured against a promoted team or those continually fighting at the bottom. Yet as always the actual salaries and bonuses will be what drives a final decision and we wont be high up that food chain.
While many of us might think/believe I would rather be somewhere like BFC and playing regular football than at say an Everton and a fringe player in reality it will be the financial package which drives the decision in the main.

Re: transfer window
Think we need a new top drawer right back with Bardsley as back up. Midfield depends on fitness of Brady and JGB. Unless 100% fit they need replacing. Also need a back up to McNeil. Happy with our 4 strikers again if fit. Potentially we can have a very strong squad next season unless of course Mr Garlick wants to cash in on the likes of Pope McNeil Tarks etc. Brownhill looks very exciting prospect so far. It goes without saying that if SD was to leave then everything changes
Re: transfer window
Everyone is pretty much in agreement we need a pacy right sided winger. You could argue the case for another left and right full back and we will need a CH seeing as Gibson will move on. Unlikely as it is to find one within our budget. I'd like an enforcer in midfield who can see a pass and break up play. Kante'esque. I'd argue we need another keeper too. If we're left with Pope and BPF, we really could do with another incoming, unless Jensen is capable to step up in a crisis. Wanting and getting are two different things though.
