A near miss!
Been feeling a bit tight in the chest and breathless whilst out walking over the past week or so and so Mrs Mac insisted I phone the Doctors yesterday.
Being a bloke I said 'Let's go for a stroll to make sure it is still there'.
Got to Tesco in Padiham and phoned 111 then 999 and am sat up in bed at Blackburn having had a 95% blocked Artery cleared at the front plus another at the rear of my heart and 2 stents fitted.
There is stubborn and there is stupid!

Sorry to hear that. My wife is a cardiac nurse and the stories she tells me like this on a daily basis are frightening. Occurs in younger people too. In simple terms: any chest tightening or breathlessness - get straight to hospital.
The good news is that once treated you are quickly back to good health. Swift recovery.

A good job you didn't try walking to Barnard Castle!
The stents will help a lot, my Dad had them when he had Angina. The best of luck in your recovery and keep us all posted.

Get well soon. Careful how you shave now, cut yourself and you will bleed for a long time (several minutes) and DO NOT FORGET TO TAKE THOSE TABLETS.
I know of a bloke who was stented and after 6 months went to Spain on his jollies for a month and forgot or did not bother to take his tablets aimed at keeping the stent patent-it blocked off and he had a massive life shortening heart attack.

well done John!
we're all guilty of putting off and making do but your story is a good reminder to get things checked out when symptons occur!
Good luck with your recovery and just be thankful the Clarets aren't giving us any anxious moments...at the moment!

Re: A near miss!
Had two hig heart attacks in 2006 in the space of five days. Ended up with three stents and loads of meds.
Been OK until the last six months and very recently wore a 24 hour heart monitor to try and establish why I'm getting breathless after short walks. Further treatment being held up by Covid 19 situation.
Hopefully know more after a visit to the Dept. of Nuclear Medicine at Blackburn in August.
Good luck JohnMac

Ah bad luck, I hope all goes well with your recovery. My Grandad had a couple of those stents fitted 25 years ago and he’s still alive now at 90 so they’ve got a fair bit of longevity in them.

Re: A near miss!
Good to know all well. As for your pathway to treatment....we all tread that path and probably will carry on!
That conversation in your head....
Feeling a bit rough....keep walking. It's been a week....go for a walk and walk it off. It'll be OK....That's not better....it's worse...I am not sure I can get home...best call 111 and wait....errr...999 ambulance. Help!

Re: A near miss!
Interesting news from Mail on line on the Oxford vaccine with the lead researcher saying by September she is 80% confident we could have a vaccine. Theirs seems to be producing both an antibody and T cell response. T cells are the elephant in the immune system (they never forget) so it is possible the vaccine will work for several years at leastAshingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 12:24 pmGood luck and I hope that you make a full recovery and that they let us all back on the Turf someday!

Re: A near miss!
I was playing 5-a-side when I felt a "bit out of breath." I said I'd just sit out for a few mins. One of the other footballers said I looked like he had when he fainted while playing football some years earlier - said he'd take me to A&E. I thought I might have a chest cold - it was middle of winter. I had no pain, chest, arms or anywhere. I learnt afterwards that around 13% of heart attacks are "silent" and don't have any pain.
That was Feb 2016. I got the 2 stents. RCA was 100% blocked and second artery was significantly narrowed. Three nights in hospital and then the recovery process started.
John, good luck with everything. It can take time to get back to your best. Make sure that you get signed up for cardio rehab - physio led gym classes - always assuming they are still doing these through the covid-19 times. You will never meet a happy set of people - even those at Charlton in May-2016 when we went up as champions don't compare.

Re: A near miss!
Read your opening post to my better half and she said " told you, all you lot are the same, yeah it'll be alreight", then you collapse and I have to ring the bloody ambulance but we did have a laugh about it, more of a totally true laugh.
Anyway stay on the path to recovery and look after yourself and especially Mrs Mac.

All the best for your recovery John.
When you get to our age ( and I think you're a few years younger than me), you need to be careful. Anything out of the ordinary, ring the Doc.

Re: A near miss!
I had a heart attack on 7th January 2003 and my Consultant actually asked me if I wanted a stent put in.
He said whatever my decision it would be the right one. He told me the risk of having stents put in and although it was such a very low risk I said no thank you.
And here we are 17 and a half years later and I have had no problems with my ticker ever since. And I am still here....well in the Philippines actually and still in lockdown.
As has been said just keep taking the medicine and do as you are told by your GP and your Consultant and also by your Missus of course.
I wish you well John

A good lesson to us men. We are very good at not going to the doctor for one reason or another.
