The drinks break...
Should the 2 drinks breaks be scrapped or kept?
Re: The drinks break...
Scrapped, without a doubt. They’ve been pointless anyway, it hasn’t been hot.
Re: The drinks break...
Scrapped unless the temperature/sunshine level is over a certain level......

Re: The drinks break...
Scrapped but left to referee’s discretion if it is a particularly hot day.

Re: The drinks break...
Can you imagine if there were drink breaks when the fans return? Fans would be back and forward to the bars and loos.

Keep them and have a VAR review of every decision made by the officials so that they can correct anything which has been wrong, therefore, keeping the fans happy that the game is 100% fair.

Re: The drinks break...
if it's a great game then they should be scrapped, if it's a dull 0-0 then every player should be given 3 shots of Absinthe to liven things up

Re: The drinks break...
I think that they should have a butty as well, supplemented with soup on a cold winter's day !!!!
A bloody nonsense imo.

Re: The drinks break...
Totally agree with this, but to be agreed before kick off based upon the conditions at kick off. I’d suggest a specific temperature and sunshine to be a requirement.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 6:35 pmScrapped but left to referee’s discretion if it is a particularly hot day.

Re: The drinks break...
That would be fine, but referees have used their common sense previously with this. They will know they need one too.

Except for the ones that were wrong that they don't correct.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 6:58 pmKeep them and have a VAR review of every decision made by the officials so that they can correct anything which has been wrong, therefore, keeping the fans happy that the game is 100% fair.
Some of the VAR decisions have taken that long I'm surprised they've not needed a drinks break halfway through making them.

Re: The drinks break...
If they do have them, the drinks should be taken on the opposite side of the pitch to the dug outs or in the penalty areas, well away from the manager and coaching staff.

Great idea. Matches could be 8hrs long and then we could have lunch and tea just like cricket.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 6:58 pmKeep them and have a VAR review of every decision made by the officials so that they can correct anything which has been wrong, therefore, keeping the fans happy that the game is 100% fair.

Re: The drinks break...
Thought this too. Put drinks behind the goals and limit it to two minutes. No teamtalk, just a break.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 8:22 pmIf they do have them, the drinks should be taken on the opposite side of the pitch to the dug outs or in the penalty areas, well away from the manager and coaching staff.

No - they'll just be extended to further commercial breaks, as already alluded to.

I would really enjoy that because it would make my day out at least 15 hours just to watch a home game ----my missus would be happy to have the house to herselfVolvoclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 8:35 pmGreat idea. Matches could be 8hrs long and then we could have lunch and tea just like cricket.

Keep the Drinks Break. It has Done us no Harm.
Re: The drinks break...
perhaps manahers should be able to have time out coaches call, like basketball. Change out half the side and then change them back later, until players are excluded by fouls committed or played too long....oh dear, erase that last one!

Re: The drinks break...
VAR, five subs and drinks breaks. What the hell has happened to the 'Beautiful game'?
Re: The drinks break...
We would never need one at TM then as according to all the commentators it’s always cold , wet and windy in our part of Lancashire, even in summer when it actually is warm.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 6:35 pmScrapped but left to referee’s discretion if it is a particularly hot day.
It could be snowing and blowing a gale in London but it wouldn’t get a mention but as soon as they rock up at Burnley it’s apparently more freezing and miserable than anywhere else in the country with the inevitable shot of the flag on top of the BL stand and a quick look at the rooftops and chimneys.

I know what you mean, and I wouldn’t have voted for any of them, but on balance I’d Keep them all.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 10:54 pmVAR, five subs and drinks breaks. What the hell has happened to the 'Beautiful game'?
VAR - helped us more than hindered us. A decent leveller against refs who’ve historically favoured the bigger teams and bottled big decisions against them.
Five subs - depends on your outlook but mine is we should have 5 players on the bench capable of playing, gives more of our squad/younger players Matchday experience & I wouldn’t want to play in the Europa next season without it (however unlikely that is now).
Drinks breaks - think it generally favours “resolute” clubs like us that have to work hard off the ball. Gives a chance for a rest, fluids and Dyche an opportunity to reorganise.

Re: The drinks break...
My Mrs can’t understand how a game that lasts 90 minutes and is about 10 miles from our house means I come home 12 hours later.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 10:34 pmI would really enjoy that because it would make my day out at least 15 hours just to watch a home game ----my missus would be happy to have the house to herself
I just tell her it went to extra time and penalties

Re: The drinks break...
5 subs will really kill the game.
These niggly professional fouls that teams use tactically to break up counter attacks are becoming a real issue.
We even applaud our own team for committing them.
And what good does a yellow card do?
When you can spread your culprits to 15 outfield players it makes the problem even worse.
I guess if we are going to have 5 subs we need red cards for professional fouls.

Re: The drinks break...
The drinks break will be kept. Its all part of the Americanization of football. Think of it as a time out where for two minutes an advert by a betting company or the like will be paid for. The time out will be displayed in small box in the top left corner whilst the rest of the screen is taken over by Ray Winston telling us to "BET NAHHH"

Re: The drinks break...
An acquaintance of mine twice went out to the USA as a referee during MLS's first incarnation in the late 1970s and complained that one of the major differences/difficulties was in having to blow the whistle for offences to coincide with the designated advertising slots, which were as I recall very regular (every 4 minutes rings a bell?). Whilst there was what appeared to be a fairly generous '30 seconds either side' to work with, the players too were aware of this requirement and if the pace/spirit of the game allowed would regularly wind-up the referees by backing off at the appropriate moment, ensure that the ball stayed in play and play scrupulously within the rules as the clock ticked-on, then unmercifully take the **** when George was forced to award a free kick and spend forty seconds remonstrating with a player for absolutely nothing whatsoever.THEWELLERNUT70 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 8:00 amThe drinks break will be kept...Americanization of football...a time out where for two minutes an advert by a betting company or the like...

To the niggly professional fouls...Burnley under Dyche initially tried playing the game in a respectful gentlemanly way. We've now Adapted to playing the way which is deemed acceptable for top flight football...without it we wouldn't survive there. It took a couple of seasons for Ashley to Adopt the dying Swan when touched. He's not very good at it though.chekhov wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 7:36 am5 subs will really kill the game.

Re: The drinks break...
Ashley should take lessons off Tarky, his fall the other night when Neves just touched him was something else and he got the free kick much to Sean's amusement. If you can't beat 'em ---join 'em!tim_noone wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 9:49 amTo the niggly professional fouls...Burnley under Dyche initially tried playing the game in a respectful gentlemanly way.
