Re: Chris Basham
He is, but why would he leave Sheff Utd, when the prospect of European football awaits, he does only have 12 months on his contract, so they might cash in well they can, but i don't see this story having legs.

Re: Chris Basham
We have Lowton and Bardsley for next season. Both of them can do a job for us. Another new right back would mean two perfectly good right backs sitting on the bench picking up a wage.
If we are bringing in a new wide defender I would rather see us adding a new left wing back or somebody that can play on the left and right. Had we not conceded so many goals and given away so many points at the start of this season, before Taylor came back into the squad, we would be higher up the table.
Pieters is a good bloke and he has done a difficult job for us in the last few games, but he doesn't have the legs to cover the whole pitch like Taylor does. Granted he was up against Traore in the last match, but when he moved to the left Mc Neil had to help him out. Thankfully he didn't try to surge forward like he did earlier in the season and he mainly focussed on holding his ground in our half, but it meant that our creative drive down the left of the pitch fizzled out.
Realistically, we could play him as a left back next season, leaving Mc Neil somewhat isolated up front, or we could play him as a left midfielder in place of Mc Neil. In my opinion neither of those options are ideal. Not to diminish his character or his playing ability, but we bought a good square peg to fill a round hole. In another role at another club it would be a different story.
I'm still going with Anthony Caci of Rc Strasbourg as my top pick

Other than him I think we should be looking at Ryan Manning of QPR, Max Lowe of Derby, Omar Richards of Reading or maybe Demetri Mitchell who was just released by Man Utd,
Chris Basham is a right sided centre back, which we don't need. Although I did see the rumour linking us with Djed the right back from Middlesbrough. However, the quoted price was 10m so I didn't take it seriously.

In regard to left sided centre backs I was hoping we would be sniffing around Waldemar Anton, but it looks like Stuttgart are on the verge of snapping him up for the bargain price of 4.5m or less if they get their way. He reminds me a lot of Tarks and would have been a good addition for a relatively small outlay.

He can play on the left of a back two or the right and I've watched him do a reasonable job as a defensive midfield screen for Hannover. In my opinion that makes him three times the player that Dael Fry is for what could be a third of the price Middlesbrough want for Fry.

Not sure I’d understand the logic of signing a 32 year old as an upgrade to on a position we currently have a 31 and 35 year old vying for.

Re: Chris Basham
I posted RB as I’ve seen him do good work down that side in this Sheff U system. Those saying RCB have me worried Tarks is on his way.

But people are positively drooling over the prospect of an ageing Lallana replacing our 30+ year olds Cork and Westwoodagreenwood wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 6:02 amNot sure I’d understand the logic of signing a 32 year old as an upgrade to on a position we currently have a 31 and 35 year old vying for.

That's the way they play, Basham and o'connell overlap from centre half.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 8:48 amI posted RB as I’ve seen him do good work down that side in this Sheff U system. Those saying RCB have me worried Tarks is on his way.
Re: Chris Basham
we are signing Kieran Trippier. I have decided. That will keep Mr D happy and that is good enough for me. He will play right-side ahead of Lowton/Bardsley. Goals galore from his crosses.

Re: Chris Basham
So from a bit of click bait, this thread has moved on to the idea of signing a right back and playing him out of position

Re: Chris Basham
I'm against signing any more older players on high wages and relatively long contracts ( even if they come on a free transfer ), but I would happily make an exception for Tripps.
Motion seconded, but we might have to wait another year or two

Hardly a traditional right back!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 10:06 amSo from a bit of click bait, this thread has moved on to the idea of signing a right back and playing him out of position

Re: Chris Basham
I don't think that there is a Clarets fan that wouldn't welcome Tripps back, but is it likely to happen? If it did, would that mean one of Bardsley or Lowton moving on? Probably.
Our biggest problem remains the right wing and until we solve that, I can't see us increasing our goal return by much, especially if we persist with two strikers. Although that's why I like Vydra. He gives us something different, and playing with J Rod there seems to be a better understanding than when playing with Wood. (Anyway, that bit's off topic)
Chris Basham? Not for me.

Re: Chris Basham
Not needed as stated previously we need a pact right winger with a decent cross
.Signing Jayden Bogle is a must now Derby are unlikely to come up

Re: Chris Basham
Could the confusion over CB/RB bethat Sheff U have mainly been playing 5 at the back with "wingbacks" and he's been on the right of the central 3
Re: Chris Basham
Do we need a CB?, can Long and Dunne not be a decent 3rd/4th choice?

Re: Chris Basham
I've been very pleasantly surprised by Long's very good performances, typical Dyche player, comes in and performs like he's made for the job.
Re: Chris Basham
I actually think we need a young quality right back ( similar to Taylor when we signed him ) Bards is getting near the end and Lowton seems to have lost his way. I would sell Lowton and keep Bardsley as back up. Would love Trips back but sadly that won’t be happening for a while if ever
