Charlie Taylor to miss Norwich game

Post by FactualFrank » Fri Jul 17, 2020 12:35 pm

SD confirms Charlie Taylor will miss this weekend (Hamstring), Jay Rodriguez, however, should be passed fit for the Clarets’ trip to Carrow Road.

(Source: Burnley's Twitter)

So assume that means JBG is likely to start.

If Jay is fully fit he should definitely start.

I would start J Rod and Vyds. They would be brill against that Norwich defence.

With only one more game left, there's not much point in resting J Rod.

Just hope we can get thru last 2 games without any serious injuries. We need to start next season with a clean bill of health if possible. At the moment only Barnes would be a doubt I think.

Apart from Lowton and Cork?

With 2 games left and a minimal, if any, chance of European qualification (which would not be the hassle of previous seasons due to the revised single legged qualifying format for next season's competition) I think you will see a few different faces out there as SD tries to give any knocks the best recovery time before next season.

Cork should be OK - already had the op. Might miss out on whatever pre-season training we manage to fit in before the season starts again

Barring miracles, we won't be in Europe next year, but I think the squad want to beat that 54 point target. Apart from Taylor, I think we'll have our strongest team out in both remaining games.

I think Dyche will and should go with his strongest available 11 - we need to do our utmost to finish as high in the league table as possible.

I disagree. I think SD will already be looking at next season. And when our squad has had nowt to play for they tend to go on an early holiday. The lack of fans and targets will mean that both games will probably be more like training games than competitive PL matches

I'd like to see a 433 with Jay Wood and Vydra up front and Mcneil in the hole ahead of a defensive midfield 2.

If not now, when?

We could lose both games and very probably remain in 10th, win both games and have an outside chance of 9th.
Apart from beating 54pts there isn't a lot worth risking more injuries for. I'd like us to beat it, but I suspect SD will see the bigger picture of next season. No one could blame him if he did.

It’d go against the last 7 and a half years if he did. He’ll put his strongest team out, the only question being which of the front two will start. If Jay Rod is fully fit it’ll be him and Wood again.

Win both games we have an outside chance of 8th don't we? Lose both games and could end up in 12th. I would hope Dyche wants to finish as a high in the league as possible mainly for the club but also for his personal record. At £2m a place we are not in a position to not take the games seriously. The idea there is nothing to play for is rubbish in my view and I don't think Dyche will be chucking the youngsters in.

And so I think the team will be:

Pope
Bardsley
Long
Tarkowski
Pieters
Gudmundsson
Westwood
Brownhill
McNeil
Rodriguez*
Wood

*Vydra if Jay is not fully fit.

There's league places to play for, and the money they earn. We need it!
Plus, I'd LOVE to finish above Arsenal.

For the integrity of the competition we should always start with the best 11 available. Fine to bring on youngsters when we are 3-0 ahead.

Talking of integrity and the Premier League there is an interesting final match between Leicester and Man U depending upon games 37 results. They could both qualify for Europe by a draw in game 38 unless Chelsea beat Wolves by a cricket score. If that is a possibility any guesses on the result?

I'm not sure the words integrity and Man Ure belong together.

From what I've seen Wood and Rodriguez doesn't quite work.
Vydra was very good with Rodriguez, and not at all bad the other night with Wood.

I'd go with:

Pope,
Bardsley, Tarkowski, Long, Pieters,
Gudmundsson, Brownhill, Westwood, McNeil,
Wood, Vydra.

I agree with that, 2 very similar players, neither pose any real pace/skill to beat a man 1v1.
We seem to play direct a hell of a lot more with Wood and Jay together.

Vydra helps us mix it up a little more and gives the defenders something different to think about.

The anout if times he beats the back line is encouraging.

I'm not sure it makes much difference to the club really. I get the feeling the higher we finish most of the money disappears on player bonuses anyway.

Sorry, but words like 'I get the feeling' don't really cut it with me.

Let's see what team Dyche puts out today - I will come back here this evening and hold my hands up if he doesn't play his strongest side from those fully fit.

The team is desperate to keep two more clean sheets so Nick has a chance of winning the Golden Gloves, which I understand has been won only once before from a team outside the Top 6.

I thought it was fairly well known? We make up for not paying as much by offering big bonuses for league position. Anyway for what it's worth I agree with you, no way he'll throw a load of kids in. The team pretty much picks itself.

I think it would make a big difference.
We'd be paying the bonuses from the extra we get from the league placing, as opposed to paying them from the bank.

It's a decent saving/reward whichever way you look at it.

Saw some good glimpses of JBG on Wednesday night, and reminded me that if he stays fit he offers something the others don't. He could turn out to be one of our top performers v Norwich

Of course Ben Mee would be in in normal circumstances, but we already knew that he was out for the season. Stop being pedantic.

I agree with that. Goalkeepers clean sheets are always more down to the defenders in front of them than the goalkeeper himself, and we have defenders who defend as though their lives were on the line.

Still, it would be nice for Popey and it might help his England chances too.
