National League Play Offs
With the season ending early in the National League and Barrow being promoted as champions the play offs for the National League begin tonight, just one off games and no 2nd legs as brought in a couple of years ago. Tonight's game is Boreham Wood v FC Halifax Town, would be great to see Halifax back in the EFL.

It'd be the first time in the league for the new Halifax club, and a good achievement from where they started off in the Northern Premier Division One, which is where Clitheroe and Colne play now.claretburns wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 1:00 pmWith the season ending early in the National League and Barrow being promoted as champions the play offs for the National League begin tonight, just one off games and no 2nd legs as brought in a couple of years ago. Also, my local team Altrincham are in the National North play off on Sunday, I go down and watch them a fair bit so will be cheering them on.

Looking at the draw the winners tonight will be away at Harrogate in the semis and then play either Yeovil, Barnet or Notts County in the final, the strong former league clubs definitely in the other half of the draw.

Blimey! Yeovil have fallen rapidly haven't they, it was only 6/7 years ago they were in the Championship, and now they're a non-league team.claretburns wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 1:25 pmLooking at the draw the winners tonight will be away at Harrogate in the semis and then play either Yeovil, Barnet or Notts County in the final, the strong former league clubs definitely in the other half of the draw.
Amazing to think Notts County were a 1st division team in the early 90's, when Colin was at the helm. And we were a Division 4 side in those days, some turnabout since then for both clubs.

I remember Derby under Jim Smith. That's going back.

Yeovil were in the Championship the year we first went up under Dyche, 13/14, they were relegated that season and the season after in League One, this is the fate I fear for Wycombe, if they go on a bad run next season and suffer relegation, that could be around the club the following season, wouldn't be surprised if at the start of the 2022/23 season Wycombe will be in League Two.tiger76 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 1:37 pmBlimey! Re: National League Play Offs
Altrincham were the best non league team prior to relegation being introduced to div 4
I always wondered why they had not made the push for league level in the ensuing years.Morecambe Wigan and Fleetwood all made the step up

Half the battle is the close proximity of the Manchester clubs I think. Good little set up though, and they are building a good team. Stadium redevelopment planned over next few years, which will be good.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 2:13 pmAltrincham were the best non league team prior to relegation being introduced to div 4

Gaining a bit of a 'hipster' support too, with a new bar selling some fancy beers (which you can drink on the terrace at this level).
Enjoyable day out of 'real' football if you like.
