His first goal since signing. Jon Parkin’s shorts would fit him but a goal is a goal.

TBF to Joey they pushed the boundaries in that game, and Rhead was the worst, so i'm not Joey nearly lost it.Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 25, 2020 3:08 pmAs a Claret, it was the closest I ever saw Joey losing it was with him.

I always thought Rhead should’ve been sent off for flattening Joey in the first five minutes. Not sure the ref even gave a feee kick.

Re: Matt Rhead
They certainly 'did a job' on us. As frustrating as it was, I could only praise Lincoln. They set their stall out to nullify any threat, and knew exactly who to rile in JB.
I argue almost weekly when we're described as 'ugly' or whatever, but if the opposition can't break us down then surely the rethinking of tactics is down to their manager? We don't, as Lincoln didn't, rock up at away grounds with the intention of entertaining the locals. We do what we have to do to win a game of football.

Re: Matt Rhead
I think it was the JBG injury that lost us the game. Had he stayed on, I think we'd have won.

Joey was embarrassing in trying to get a non-league player sent off. He should've risen above the game Rhead was playing

Embarrassing? Really? With no comment on the appalling provocation.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Sat Jul 25, 2020 6:58 pmJoey was embarrassing in trying to get a non-league player sent off. He should've risen above the game Rhead was playing

Re: Matt Rhead
Too true. Graham Scott let them get away with lots of things right from the word go and the elbow into the back of Joey's head in the cerntre circle was a definite pre-meditated act and it was not punnished at all. The injury to JBG was questionable as well in the context of the modern game.scouseclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 25, 2020 4:56 pmI always thought Rhead should’ve been sent off for flattening Joey in the first five minutes. Having said that, they pushed things to the limit and if officials don't react you continue to push!

Considering his reputation, Joey binned his bad boy stuff throughout his times with us.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Sat Jul 25, 2020 6:58 pmJoey was embarrassing in trying to get a non-league player sent off. He should've risen above the game Rhead was playing
And it wasn't for want of trying to get him to bite by numerous sides we played, more or less from the off.
Lincoln particularly went out to wind him up.
But to his credit, and his managers influence, he didn't just behave, and maybe the exception of that cup game, thrived overall.
Hes had a lot of bad press and done daft things. Mostly deserved.
To his credit, never once buggered it up with us.

Re: Matt Rhead
That's all true, but is this because Sean trusted him not to let the side down, and treated him as a man, and if he cocked up he'd have to explain himself to his teammates.Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 25, 2020 7:59 pmConsidering his reputation, Joey binned his bad boy stuff throughout his times with us.

That's good man management in my book, JB wasn't a spotty kid when he joined us, and he knew the score, and what was expected of him.

Wasn't that was historical?

That game was diabolical, one of the worst I’ve witnessed.

Re: Matt Rhead
Fair point. I think he was charged based on specific bets from before he joined Burnley. But he did admit to having a gambling problem which I would have thought was still an issue during his time with us.
I get your point about his on-field behaviour though. Other than the Lincoln game he was impeccable. I still think his ‘stamp’ in the Brighton game was a bit naughty, it did change the tide of the game though.
Re: Matt Rhead
That Lincoln game was shocking. A premier league side should be good enough to outfootball a conference team on their home pitch. We still struggle when the onus is on us to break a team down and create something.

Re: Matt Rhead
I feel it would be different now. Like I say, it was the JBG injury that really cost us as I remember him causing them problems right from the off.
But now you can add the likes of McNeil and Wood and if we played that game again with players like those 2 included, we'd be much more dangerous in the box.
Not that I thought Darikwa was a right winger, but he should have been put further forward when JBG went off for that game.

Maybe it happened during a loo break.

Barton was in the air and he came down. When his foot landed, it was deemed by those who don't like him to be a "stamp".Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 25, 2020 8:57 pmMust have missed that stamp.

The only question was whether he carefully judged his flight to ensure he landed on the knee of the Brighton player rolling beneath him. If he did, it was very well done. Brighton fans to this day are in no doubt that it was deliberate and the referee and the FA disciplinary commission (who reviewed it and took no action) were dishonest.
Back to the fat lump in the title, what he did to Dean Henderson was worse than what he did to Barton. He'd have got a ban from boxing for this foul. Sherpa Van final (or whatever its name was) against Shrewsbury.

I watched the game in Bangkok with a load of Mackems
They took the pxxx at the end but I did tell them it will be a cold day in Hell before they play the Mighty Clarets in a league game.

Shocking.
