Norwho? Versus MIGHTY CLARETS
Re: Norwho? Versus MIGHTY CLARETS
Just looked at the Premier league table from week 23-37.
Burnley top. Fewest defeats (1). 11 goals conceded.
City, United, Scousers have a game in hand of course, but they can't lose minus 2.

I don't disagree Vydra could have been earlier, but sadly once again when he gets a decent chance he couldn't convert, this is all that's missing in his game, but for a striker it's the most important asset, his running behind, link up play, workrate are all excellent, but he just needs something to fall his way in the 6 yard box to get him in the scoring groove again.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 7:46 pmso we aren't allowed to say what we actually saw - that we lacked creativity and Vydra should have been on earlier ?
Might want to have a word with Dyche then because he's just said we were poor in the final third today
Massive difference between complaining and observing
Wood has his faults, but when the chance came his way he was clinical, that's why he plays when fit, he's always a goal threat, in a way that Vydra isn't just now, now it could be that if Vyds gets one then more will follow, but managers can't rely on maybes they like tried and tested, hence why Jay and Woody started today.
We could have been better yes, but we were never in danger of not winning the game, maybe it was too comfortable at times, and the players mentally switched off, thankfully Norwich were too poor to cause us any problems after the red cards.

not disagreeing with you but I would say Vydra will struggle to score when he's on the bench Anyway, 3 points was the requirement, I just feel sorry for Vydratiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 7:57 pmI don't disagree Vydra could have been earlier, but sadly once again when he gets a decent chance he couldn't convert, this is all that's missing in his game, but for a striker it's the most important asset, his running behind, link up play, workrate are all excellent, but he just needs something to fall his way in the 6 yard box to get him in the scoring groove again.

Re: Norwho? Versus MIGHTY CLARETS
Thought Vydra did more and looked sharper in his 'Cameo' appearance than Wood did all the time he was on. He could easily have had two goals with a touch of luck. His movement was brilliant.
OK, Wood scored, but the ball came of his shin, then his head before it went in the net. No wonder Krul missed it.
Thought Pieters was excellent today and could have had a couple of goals with a bit of luck. Westy and Brownhill continue to impress as well.
Strange game to be sure, but now only one point needed for a new record PL total.
C'mon you PL Clarets.

Vydra's an unusual striker in that he's more creative than predatory. And maybe his real value to the side is his ability to see and create openings for other players: he consistently shows good awareness of where colleagues are likely to be and finds them with quick, well weighted touches. ( E.g. the header to tee up Wood in midweek, and against West Ham holding off defenders in the 6 yard box and knocking the ball back to Pieters who blazed over). And that neat movement against Brighton away that opened the way for Hendrick to fire home a terrific equaliser was a great piece of quick thinking and teamwork. And he's pretty quick too, take a look at how he chases back from the Wolves area and almost catches Traore just before they scored.
Today he came on in the 79th minute. That's barely enough time to get up to speed, let alone be at the top of his game. But he looked lively as always. The one scoring chance he had today was from the narrowest of angles and Krull positioned himself perfectly to prevent him from scoring (as noticed by the TV commentators).
I can see why others get the nod over him, but when they're not firing on all cylinders I'd like to see him on for longer.

Re: Norwho? Versus MIGHTY CLARETS
Job done. Of course it would have been nice to get four or five but that wasn’t likely. We get our goals from open play by getting the ball forward quickly and stretching defences. There was no chance of doing that in the second half and we don’t have the players to unlock massed static defences as we regularly demonstrate in cup competitions against lower league opponents. To give them credit Norwich defended for their lives too.

When did we last have as many as 23 shots in a game?Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 7:46 pmso we aren't allowed to say what we actually saw - that we lacked creativity and Vydra should have been on earlier ?

Re: Norwho? Versus MIGHTY CLARETS
There’s no doubting Dyche or the teams a achievements this season. It’s just frustrating when we seemed to be playing better with Vydra in the team than we are now, and there’s a noticeable improvement when he comes on, that Vydra gets 10 minutes.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 7:38 pm100%, it's my biggest frustration with Dyche, we play far better football with Vydra on the pitch. Take the win all day long though, record points total, top 10 finish - got to say it like it is though even if it is nitpicking
Can see why he plays Wood - proven scorer who always finds a way to nick one even when not playing well, and, let’s face it, Vydra is hardly prolific - but would be nice to have seen him for longer today against 9 men when we knew we were going to have to get in behind two banks of four.
