Are you sure?

Why not grab a few tinnies, round up the lads and head down on the train to the FA headquarters to sort them out?

The second one, he jumped in two footed but pulled out, the first looks worse in slow motion, both harsh IMO.

First one never a red, no need whatsoever for Westwood to go down like he'd been by Mike Tyson.

Deliberate blow to the head with an arm is a red, even if Westwood went down ‘easy’.
The two footed off the ground lunge Is the definition of a red.

The ‘goes down easy’ i disagree with, an elbow in the back of the head actually hurts, probably more than the face (from experience)

2nd one was 2 footed and they’re red end of . First was unlucky imo, Westwood instigated the fracas and the elbow wasn’t “ thrown “ AW then rolls round like he’d been shot

After the palace debacle maybe SD has said to the players it's what they need to do to actually get a decision. First one was borderline, but a red. My issue is with consistency how can the first one be given as a red but not the one at palace? What's the difference?

Very little force in the elbow. In real time looked like nothing. Replay made it look far worse. Yellow would have been proportionate but by the letter of the law a red. Westwood made a meal of it and instigated the situation in the first place.

Second one probably a red but it seemed to me his foot bounced up off the ball and then he tried to pull his foot away. He bent his leg as he was sliding. A bit unfortunate but too much force with both feet so probably a red.

If you are two footed off the ground enough that your foot can bounce up off the ball then it is a straight red every time. Out of control is the definition of that movement. It doesn't have to be intentional or malicious, break a leg or even, theoretically at least, touch the opponent.

1st offence

Law states
Violent conduct is when a player uses or attempts to use excessive force or brutality against an opponent when not challenging for the ball, or against a team-mate, team official, match official, spectator or any other person, regardless of whether contact is made.

In addition, a player who, when not challenging for the ball, deliberately strikes an opponent or any other person on the head or face with the hand or arm, is guilty of violent conduct unless the force used was negligible.

Verdict red card offence.

Second challenge

Law states

Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.

Verdict Red card

He made sure the ref and VAR at least looked at it. That is at most what he is guilty of. Buendia clearly makes contact with Westwoods head. It wasn't like some we often see where there is no contact and a player rolls around. It is a red whether Westwood reacts or not. There was clear intent in using the elbow and the force he used is irrelevant..he made contact.

Because of our reputation as a no-nonsense, physically strong side, I'm sure other teams think they have play like Burnley to match our physicality. This leads to our opponents trying to be too physical against us, not understanding that our physicality is related to hard work, strength and organisation.

First one a definite Red. He was very sly and deliberate and knew he had been caught out. I think Ash went down because the point of an elbow just behind the ear is a painful blow.

Second one was reckless and out of control and 3 Burnley players in different positions immediately remonstrating proves the point somewhat.

A bit soft in normal circumstances, but the Premier League isn't normal.

Although any Argie deserves to be sent off, in my abnormal opinion.

The first one was arguably soft. But if you intentionally elbow someone in the head you are asking for trouble, no matter how soft the contact was. I think Westwood’s reaction was OTT, but he’s probably realised by now that to get a decision like that you have to make a point to the referee. Every other team does it.

The second one was a clear red, can’t believe there can be an argument against it. The challenge was reckless, dangerous and out of control.
