FAO Spades
Morning, Your Maj.
Is everything OK?
You haven't posted for a week or so as I recall - and after all we did beat Norwich yesterday!

Re: FAO Spades
Good morning Redbeard and Buxton. Yes, things are mostly OK, thanks.
I tend not to post much these days. I don't seem to have the same repartee with posters as I had on the old board. Perhaps I really am getting old
I am delighted we beat Norwich although my NC friends are very subdued at the moment (Oh good!)
Buxton, I really am sorry about the bacon butties. I haven't been on the match day thread for ages. Would you care to join me with a jacket potato or do you always partake of a proper Sunday roast?

Good to know all is well.
And I understand as to the fewer posts.
Meanwhile let's hope your NC friends remain subdued in the Chumpionship, eh?

Re: FAO Spades
Your Maj ---are you still doing the cryptic crossword? What do you think of them these days? I found that some are still quite good, however, one of the setters uses some very extraneous links as far as I am concerned. I have a feeling that there are three different sources, what do you think?

Yes, Ashington, still doing it daily. I tend to agree that there are two or three different setters. On the whole I think the crosswords have become easier over the last twelve months - or I have become more brainy (doubtful ) - and some of the clues are very contrived. Nevertheless, I still enjoy them.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 19, 2020 5:32 pmYour Maj ---are you still doing the cryptic crossword? What do you think of them these days? Re: FAO Spades
Have looked at that, back in the day.
But I did the D Telegraph. So doubt that would be popular either .
Got out of the habit 10 years or so ago.
Just recently getting back into it.
Might need help though!

I prefer to do the mirror quizword. I'm not to good at the cryptic types.

Well, Alf, just keep trying. You might surprise yourself.conyoviejo wrote: ↑Sun Jul 19, 2020 6:38 pmI prefer to do the mirror quizword. I'm not to good at the cryptic types.
I don't mind a general knowledge puzzle as long as it's a good one. Some of the clues in the Sunday Express one are just too obscure,

Re: FAO Spades
During little breaks from artwork and writing over the last few years, I've become fairly adept at those wordwheels - otherwise known as polygons - and also at Web Sudoku, though 'evil' level is sometimes a level too far!

Re: FAO Spades
I think that that just about sums it up as to how I feel and I definitely haven't got brainier. I find that you can sail through most but then you do come across one which is contrived (I do like that expression!) Like you. I still enjoy them and it does keep the brain ticking over which is very important! Take care and continue to enjoy!spadesclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 19, 2020 6:12 pmYes, Ashington, still doing it daily. Re: FAO Spades
But seriously, Spades, Sudoku is not a mathematical thing. Only single figures are used, and no actual arithmetic is involved.
It's completely about logic, and, as Conyo says, you could even use letters instead.

Re: FAO Spades
Good evening your Maj. and Ashington. Do you not find doing a one newspaper cryptic the clues get a bit repetitious? I did and not wanting to change papers I stopped doing them.
BTW. Redbeard is right about Sudoku. A fine time filler that, as pointed out, has nothing to do with maths just logic.
As two senior posters I hope this madness hasn’t affected you too much. One day the world will return to normal.
