Stats question

Anybody got the figures for goal, assists and games for Charlie and Erik Pieters?
Seems to me Charlie is the better defender but Erik better on the ball.

Pieters has had some good games recently, often out of position, but is a decent player with a football brain, seldom flustered.

Not at all sure on the accuracy, but from what I found,

Charlie Taylor has 2 assists from 73 games.
Pieters has 3 assists from 25 games.

This is in total and not just this season.

I prefer Charlie Taylor at left back, but you can't argue with the exceptional squad role Erik Pieters has carried out by giving 100% every game despite being out of position. 4 assists as well this season is excellent.

The term "Dyche player" is worn out on this board, but in this case he most certainly befits that.

At CT’s link, for this season. Erik is showing 2 goals and 4 assists against 1 assist from less minutes.

Like I say, I was doubting the source. But I'm pretty sure Pieters has more, regardless.
For me, Charlie is a better LB with Pieters perhaps better at LM.

Peiters has a really good strike on him, both yesterday and at West Ham, found himself in a genuine scoring position.
Done well has Erik, when he arrived from Stoke with his lack of games, age and fee I thought he literally was just back up hoping to get the cup games and fill in only when needed.

He's done more than that, fair play.

Taylor occupies a defender though and usually links well with McNeil creating space for each other.
Erik and McNeil weren't quite in the same page a couple of times yesterday.

I’ve been banging on for years for our FBs to occasionally come inside and have a pop, if only to keep the defence honest. Charlie and Matt NEVER do, overlap only. Bards and Pieters are both happy to come in off their line and change things.

Nothing compared to the negativity on here in July 2017 when we signed Phil Bardsley. I recall one poster saying his legs had gone (where they'd gone I'm not sure) but he's as fit as anyone in the squad.

It wasnt me was it

As for Bardsley's fitness, he really is, you can see it.
He is up and down that line as much as the next person, and his passion and determination is excellent to see. Shame he's not 30, as he has everything you want to see from a Burnley defender

Taylor is probably lower on assists because as he bombs forward he creates space allowing McNeil to whip in a killer ball.

Not really. When Charlie gets forward he goes outside Dwight. Dwight creates his own space and I don’t think I’ve ever seen Charlie outside of him as he’s crossed the ball.
This is not an anti-Charlie post. He starts for me because his bread and butter is defending. I just wish his marauding was of the level we were told about before he signed, sadly it isn’t. This could deny him an England cap because his defending is up with the current squad LBs.

Taylor is a much better player but Eriic has done his bit lately

Taylor offers a lot in possession. His goal contribution stats might not be great, and it’s something that hopefully he can work on. But he carries the ball very well, often gains us valuable territory and wins corners and free kicks in dangerous positions - which considering our threat from set pieces shouldn’t be undervalued.

Pieters has done great job coming in and playing rm and lb. Great squad player. Prefer Taylor overall but certainly not worried when Pieters has to step in. Genius signing by SD

Taylor is better at defending and makes us better at attacking. Not because of his own assists but his pace and power driving down the left are a big part of our attacking play. Taylor has been indirectly involved in many more goals than Pieters but Erik gets the assists himself. Not knocking Pieters just Taylor is by far our best full back.

Looking at those I’d say pretty much balanced overall between the two

What is this obsession with stats? Use your eyes. Taylor and McNeill dovetail seamlessly together. They understand each other’s game and Taylor bombs on and buys those free kicks we all chuckle at that give us free kick service directly into the box. Pieters is a consummate pro and solid back up. Does his part. One of those assists was a shanked up and under against Southampton :)

Just to point out Pieters had another assist today with a quite beautiful pass and it hasn’t had a mention, to my knowledge.
I’d still start Charlie but what a good acquisition he has been.

Also got run ragged by a 19 year old who spent most of the game gleefully marauding our box.

Assist stats have nothing to do with it if youre primary role is a defender.

Apart from their header that hit the bar can you remember another chance that came from that side. I’ve just sat through it all again to edit a lowlights package and I can’t.

Pieters definitely struggled with the pace of their winger. The stats show that we have two very good left backs with differing strengths and weaknesses.

The qualitative difference between the two overall is paper thin. We're lucky to have them both at the club.

A pity that we haven't got 2 right backs as good as the 2 left backs, a major weakness.

Anyone question him for the 2nd goal a bit? I think Taylor or Mee would have busted a gut to get back on the line to clear, whereas Pieters took the option of covering the pass to the middle which was always going to be the lesser of the 2 dangers.
