Car breakdown cover

I now need to get 2 cars covered on a breakdown policy, to include getting the vehicles home.
I’ve been looking on line and expected to see half a dozen companies listed. It turns out there’s around 25.
As usual the prices differ, as does the quality of service. So the people on here, are always the best to seek advice or recommendations from.

I don't know how they compare to others price wise, but we've always had good service from RAC, including a breakdown on the motorway (very quick as I had children with me), services (temp repair lasted about 12 months) and a breakdown in the middle of no-where (call centre managed to located us).

My wife phones every year though and the cost comes below their first quote, she saved quite a lot this time.

Use start rescue too, for 2 cars. much cheaper and came out when the Mrs was broken down fairly quickly.

Around £50 a year for comprehensive cover

Had to call on their services twice in the last 2 years and both times service was good (they use McAdams in Colne)

Havent needed to use them yet but I am with RAC. If its any consolation I saw two card brokedown on The M6 yesterday both attended to by RAC so thats reassuring! think between them and AA they have the most vans and mechanics so that has to be a consideration.

Used AA once before and they went above and beyond and did a great job at 01:00 in the morning. Really should have taken cover out with them based on that but The RAC man was in the right time and place when i bought my new car.

Also to add RAC cover includes driver cover not car cover. So I am covered driving my own car or even as a passenger in another.

If doing RAC, check using tesco club points also

Start rescue. Been with them for years and get 10% renewal discount every year. Fortunately I have never had to use them. Great mobile phone app too that pinpoints your exact location if you do break down.

Thanks everyone, for the breakdown cover advice. I've gone with Sure Start. A word of advice to anyone, the policy start date I entered was the 21st, expecting it to start at Midnight. When the policies were sent via e mail, they showed 7-30pm on the 21st.
I'm on the road at 4-30am (going to see the Bearded Vulture, fingers crossed). So will have to do without the cover for a few hours.

Free legal expenses with start rescue too. Some insurers charge £30 just for that.

Mrs has just arranged for us both to be covered by 'breakdown assist'. Never heard of them and hope we do not have to use them. However it is a lot cheaper than £150+ I have paid just for me on AA for years.

Once you find a good quote, check if there is also some cash back on quidco.
Every time I renew any insurance or cover i use the comparison sites for the best price and then see if there is cashback on the Quidco site, worth a couple of hundred pounds a year
