Where our 54 points were won
Where our 54 points were won
So with just Brighton at home to come I thought it would interesting to show where we won our points in league order. Here they are
Liverpool 1
Man City 0
Chelsea 0
Leicester 3
Man Utd 3
Spurs 1
Wolves 2
Sheff Utd 1
Arsenal 1
Southampton 6
Everton 3
Newcastle 4
Palace 3
Brighton 1 so far
West Ham 6
Watford 6
Villa 1
Bournemouth 6
Norwich 6
So we took 6 points off 4 of the bottom 5 plus Southampton
We only failed to take any points from City and Chelsea
Total points against top 10 is 12
Total points against bottom 9 is 42 min
Pretty impressive for a small northern town club

With the exception of Villa and Palace at home we were ruthless against the bottom half clubs

I was saving this until next week so it hasn’t had final league position edit.
You’ll get the gist. CP & AV at home the major disappointments. Shame we didn’t get deserved home wins over Spurs and Arsenal.

Re: Where our 54 points were won
Most puzzling performance for me was Everton (A). Their confidence was totally shot and we just sat back and waited for them to score. That was, however, a very odd blip in a brilliant season. What you know with Sean is that you will get Season long mastery of fine margins

The away games at Spurs & Everton were the most disappointing for me, we just didn't turn up.

Re: Where our 54 points were won
Key to our success this year has been beating the teams at the bottom. Do that regularly and you’ll be fine.

Re: Where our 54 points were won
We are remarkable consistent.
I doubt anyone else outside the top two has that level of consistency in terms of beating teams they are "expected" to beat.
This has been one of the hallmarks of Dyche's reign so far.

A lot more wins by 2 and 3 goals than in recent seasons. Pulling away from some of the lower teams.

Re: Where our 54 points were won
The first half at home to AV was a disgrace. Too much Christmas and New Year festivities. Showed second half how to play against bottom 3 sides.

Amazing how most posters on here are commenting on the odd bad days. What’s wrong with Liverpool and Man Utd Away ? Come on guys it’s time to celebrate a great season

Re: Where our 54 points were won
Because we really should have done better against Villa in particular.
Man Utd was a bit special.
Re: Where our 54 points were won
so only 6 losses from 18 at home, very good returns indeed, 4 of those losses coming from top 6 teams, the AV loss was he big disappointment.
only 7 losses away and all coming from top 10 teams
A very balanced and pleasing report card over all and could definitely have done slightly better, well done BFC

I did indeed go to Bramall lane, my mind must be doing it's best to erase that one
Good job I had a few beers watching the Rugby beforehand to numb the pain.

Re: Where our 54 points were won
If Villa survive at Watford's expense that's 18 (one third) of this season's points on their way to the Championship - first priority for a club of our stature to take maximum points off the weakest teams in the league
Re: Where our 54 points were won
Brilliant season. Big Summer for the club IMO.
Also, really nice work on the visual of point distribution.

Re: Where our 54 points were won
That's correct but we'll be looking for maximum points off the 3 promoted teams, whoever they may be. And our record in that regard is pretty good.EarbyClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 5:41 pmIf Villa survive at Watford's expense that's 18 (one third) of this season's points on their way to the Championship - first priority for a club of our stature to take maximum points off the weakest teams in the league
Re: Where our 54 points were won
We currently have more points than the bottom 2 teams added together. Just let that stat sink in for awhile. And to think we were all thinking relegation at one time

Re: Where our 54 points were won
My thoughts go back to that win over Leicester and Nick Popes great penalty save.
Seemed to provide a springboard for the rest of the season.

Also apart from Villa we didn't concede any goals to the bottom 5 either

Re: Where our 54 points were won
Yes it's strange how a whole season can turn on one moment, since that save we've gone from strength to strength, while Leicester have gone downhill faster than a bobsleigh.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 2:45 pmMy thoughts go back to that win over Leicester and Nick Popes great penalty save.

I'd liken it to the Huddersfield game from last season, we were 1 down, and it was looking bleak, then Wood scored and Schindler was dismissed in the space of 60 seconds, and after that we went on a great run to drag us clear of danger.
Re: Where our 54 points were won
I find it remarkably that only Man City and Chelsea managed to do the double over little old Burnley

Re: Where our 54 points were won
Impressive that, along with the 15 clean sheets, we also conceded only once in 9 of the games - meaning that teams have only scored 2+ goals against on 13 occasions to date
Re: Where our 54 points were won
Few points to note from this season as a whole:
Again our second half of the season stats are very strong. A consistent theme under Dyche
Post lockdown, what's changed? Have the constant disruptions to play helped the way we set about games?
ESPN posted on twitter these amazing stats from match 23-37 https://twitter.com/ESPNUK/status/1285611984776568832 Incredible!
As previous posters have mentioned, we are becoming seriously efficient at putting away teams from mid table and below. People knock Chris Wood, but he does the business when he needs to.
Have Vydra and Rodriguez improved us? Since Barnes got injured (and I love Barnes) they seem to have added an extra dimension to our play.
Brownhill is a massive plus
We REALLY need JBG and Brady to stay injury free next season.
Couple of midfielders and a right back and we are sorted for next season. And of course keep hold of our prized assets (including the manager).
Get rid of Gibson hopefully and sign an up and coming centre back who is willing to learn from Mee and Tarky.
