How have you come to the conclusion that Dunne is adequate cover for two very good and experienced Premier League defenders?Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 13, 2020 9:29 amKev Long and Jimmy Dunne are both adequate cover at CB
If Tarks is sold we may need to sign Craig Dawson to bring our numbers up but Duffy is now more suitable at a lower league club.PNE or Rovers

Jimmy Dunne isnt good enough to play in the Premier League
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I can’t really judge jimmy Dunne’s ability, having only seen him once on’t tv. Does anyone on here( who’s seen him play more) think he’s got the potential to play premier league football?
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Whilst not as good as Tarkowski, Craig Dawson is certainly good enough for us. If we are looking at a centre half he wouldn't be a bad replacement/cover if JT left.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
If we keep Mee and Tarks then Duff is great cover. 100 PL games and 30 for his country.A tough no nonsense defender thats slipped down the pecking order at Brighton. I think his game is more suited to us than Brighton
I know there will be an outcry about Long being an acceptable back-up, and I know he does not let us down. To quote SD there are many fine margins in the PL, and over a series of games Duffy will make less mistakes than Long, and we will be a stronger unit. I think if Duffy had been managed by SD for the last 3 games he would be some player. For Dunne I suspect another year on loan, maybe in the SPL where he did well at Hearts, but he hardly excelled at Fleetwood or Sunderland

Jimmy Dunne is full international who looks to developing well
Again we have fans talking down our rising stars. If Duffy isn't fit for Brighton, a bottom half of the league team he certainly isnt fit for us

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Jimmy Dunne is nearly 23 years old (not a kid) and has been on loan to League One and League Two teams where he hasn't featured in all games due to not being selected. I have seen him play for the U23s and, again, he doesn't really look like he's a cut above (which McNeil did, for example) or even the best the defender on the pitch.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 13, 2020 10:30 amJimmy Dunne is full international who looks to developing well

Just my opinion, but I do not think Jimmy Dunne is up to being part of a Premier League squad.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Would tend to agree with this. I’ve seen him play a few times and he looks on the slow side and doesn’t have the best of techniques.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Thu Aug 13, 2020 11:14 amJimmy Dunne is nearly 23 years old (not a kid) and has been on loan to League One and League Two teams where he hasn't featured in all games due to not being selected. As said he wasn’t a regular at Sunderland - who failed to get promotion and weren’t pulling up any trees themselves. He seemed to do ok at Hearts but hard to judge in such a poor league when you are only really tested when you play Celtic (or Rangers more recently).
At 23 he still does have time to develop but to me it feels like it would be a huge step to get to the standards of the Premier League - especially when he is yet to prove himself in the Championship (he’s not even had any interest from clubs in this division to take him on loan has he ?)
But all that said if we can do a “Kevin Long” with him and develop him into a solid back up player we might save ourselves a few millions buying someone.

BRENTFORD LINE UP HACK
Brentford want to sign Nuremburg winger Robin Hack if they lose Said Benrahma.
The 21-year-old Germany U21 player is a top target should their £25m-rated star move to the Premier League this summer.
Hack came through the youth ranks at Hoffenheim before joining Nuremburg in the Bundesliga 2 last year. He scored 10 goals in 31 appearances last season.
If Brentford fancy the guy someone get a call into Mr Rigg quick

Shane Duffy after our coaching could be a decent signing. Injuries apart nothing wrong with him athletically. He can be prone to decision making errors. We can help him there.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
The old adage about it's easy for an average player to look good in a good team, than a good player to shine in a poor one, springs to mind !
Perhaps Jimmy Dunne or Shane Duffy would look extremely competent in our well drilled back four, alongside Ben Mee, with Pope shouting out instructions, and the covering bank of four in front of him .....
Just a thought !

When I've seen Dunne play his feet when on the ball is his weakest trait. He's your typical boot the ball up the line no nonsense centre half. Worse in that respect than Duff was.
I don't think he's premier league quality. I'd love to be proved wrong though.

If we're in for Duffy. I'd expect he's a back up. We're already one centre half short with Gibson on the way out. There's no way Duffy would dislodge the Mee/Tarks partnership. If Tarks was to go. I'd think we'd be after younger, better centre halves than Duffy.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Duffy would be great in our defence with the amount of protection they get. Getting blocks in and winning headers would suit him down to the ground. Out of interest if Tarky goes who exactly do people think we'll be going for? We won't use the European market or gamble on a younger lad so Duffy is about as good as we'll get.

Problem Chelsea have is what to do with Kepa. He was a world record buy for a keeper two years ago and must be on a massive salary. If his reputation is good in Spain then maybe an exchange with Oblak is a possibility. Can’t see him being offloaded to Burnley or Ajax that’s for sure.

Sell Pope to Chelsea for £70 million and get Butland as Number 2 behind BPF who should be up to standard after a year with Mercer Pope and Hart. Also why haven't we looked at Jon Obi Mikel? On his way to Stoke?

Butland has had a few calamitous seasons , I think that’s what has led to the comments about him, however if we as a club and specifically Mercer can get the best out of him then he could fulfill that early potential. Would probably cost around £6-8m I’d guess.

If Mercer can get Heaton who conceeded at least 100 goals for Bristol City, and Pope who was playing non League footbal a few years ago, both into the England team, then its frightening to think what he can do with Butland who has already played for England.
