Can you imagine how many goals we would score with any decent right winger who could place the ball accurately on our strikers heads?

I don’t get this love in for Charlie as an attacking threat. A one fingered man could count his assists on one hand. Not the player he was at Leeds that most were raving about for his attacking.
He’s still my first choice for his defensive job and he does like to get up his line but it’s a rare day when anything comes from it.
It’s not about Charlie’s assists, his movement down the left not only creates space for McNeil, but also gives the opposition RB a decision to make, go with Taylor or McNeil. Taylor & McNeil have an obvious understanding, something we don’t have on the right side. Get our right side working like the left when Taylor & McNeil play we’d be scoring lots more

I might have been harsh and I do like him as a player but I hadn’t seen much of him before he signed so I was expecting more going forward.
Very fair point about him moving defenders around to make space for Dwight to do his thing.

No Charlie Taylor is not the player he was at Leeds crossing for Chris Wood to score, hes better
He can still get forward at speed but he has a rat trap of a tackle that stops players in their tracks
He has been excellent this year till injured.
Charlie just needs to be prepared to take the odd shot as I believe he could contribute a lot on the goals tally

My bad. I should have clarified, I also pay for 2 junior STs. I reckon if another 100 pledge with me then we can cover his wages for a week. You with me Tone?
Confess I only pay for own season ticket Duffer, but I'd happily join you in that pledge. :)

One of my long standing complaints about our FBs is that they constantly go outside, on the overlap, and never cut in to have a dig. To be fair Bards and Pieters have been an improvement in this regard. Just a simple thing where improvement can be found. Keeps defenders honest as well.
Two things you don’t need in play, always and never.

So the club would buy back Tripps for 18 mil and sold him for 3.5 , it's not the Burnley that i know .

Charlie is excellent defensively and a perfect foil for Dwight going forward. Trouble is he is a one dimensional, all left footed player and that will go against him when England places are up for grabs.
Charlie is exciting bombing down the wing and crashing over crosses from the goal-line. Unfortunately that’s his one trick and he will be sussed this season. If only he could work to develop his right foot and cut inside for a powerful shot on goal occasionally he would be a shoe-in for England.

Totally agree with this. Made a similar point about our set plays being predictable and a few different options to be used in the right conditions/opponents, would be great.

Same with regards to full backs cutting in/shooting occasionally. Hate predictable play in any sense.

The best bit about Taylor is his innate ability to go down in stages like a galloping racehorse with shin splints with a sort of schoolboy innocence and the refs buy it every time. Gets us loads of dangerous free kicks in their territory. Love him to bits.

4 Mil bid for Worrall turned down. May bid for some Italian striker I've never heard of, and forgotten his name already.

And probably will never hear again

Worrall bid a bit off their valuation so another that won't happen.

I'm not on Twitter etc, so this is purely a stab in the dark.

But I think theyll be a story of us wanting rid of Gibson and some teams interested but cant afford, or only want loan and we want him permanently gone.

Also we want a couple if players, but the fee is the stumbling block.

Isn't it a coincidence these things always happen on a Saturday so can be reported on Sunday

Well if that is true, wtf is going on? If a young player is only worth something like that to us, we are seriously taking risks again at cb. It looks like we have only 1 fit cb with just 2 weeks to the new season.

Aston Villa and Sheffield United make bids for Francesco Margiotta.

Would you prefer us to offer £10 million for a player we only value at £4 million?

I'd prefer us to offer something like the going rate. If it's £4m then he is not good enough. Simple as that. Our ability to **** about is becoming legendary.

I wouldn't know whether he's good enough or not, I wouldn't know whether that valuation is accurate or not, but I do know that our recruitment over recent years has seen us reach a level where we are about to go into a fifth successive season in the Premier League. If that's legendary, it's more than good enough for me.

Oh that old chestnut. The past is the past. The future is something to prepare for. Assuming we already have the wages, then amortisation of say £1m a year when we have parachute payments really is peanuts. Peanuts gets you monkeys.

Not a chance that’s true looking at his career.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Nixon helps a few betting companies generate some income with a few of his stories.

27 years old, his stats playing in the Swiss league don’t suggest he’d be anything more than 4th choice

2012–2018 Juventus 0 (0)
2012–2013 → Carrarese (loan) 7 (0)
2013–2014 → Venezia (loan) 17 (4)
2014–2015 → Monza (loan) 13 (1)
2015 → Real Vicenza (loan) 13 (1)
2015–2016 → Santarcangelo (loan) 31 (9)
2016–2018 → Lausanne-Sport (loan)[2] 36 (15)
2018–2019 Lausanne-Sport 54 (7)
2019– Luzern 7 (1)

Can’t really comment on his value other than to say some of the Notts fans were saying he wasn’t ready for the PL and didn’t care if he left when reports first broke. Didn’t fill me with confidence we should be splashing a large part of our transfer budget on him.

Hopeful this is because we’re doing our business professionally in the background. Worried it’s because we don’t actually plan to bring anyone in that will improve the first team!

Not sure how accurate the latest rumour on Worrall bid is.
2 weeks ago the local Nottingham press were reporting we had bid £4m plus Gibson to take Worrall. That sounds a more realistic valuation than bidding £4m without Gibson.

Nixon is no different to any other journalist - if there is no news or nothing concrete he will make stories up to attract traffic to his various platforms. They know it’s impossible to disprove and the fact that he knows there was probably some truth about the club showing interest in a player means he can just keep a story going and going even if it’s dead in the water or nothing new is happening.

Don't know anything about him but on the flip side. Juventus saw something in him to keep him on their books for six years if those stats are true.

His stats are somewhat underwhelming, for a 27 year old attacker anyway. Let’s hope this one is wide of the mark. At his age coming into the premier league having never played in England and not exactly being prolific it’s not the most convincing .

I never mentioned our squad. My point is that if this kid is any good or the potential to be with our guidance, then a bid of £4m after weeks of speculation is a worry.

As soon as we're linked with somebody, the same teams then seem to jump in and suddenly become interested. It's like we do their scouting work for them. So it's no surprise we prefer to keep things quiet.

I never mentioned our squad. My point is that if this kid is any good or the potential to be with our guidance, then a bid of £4m after weeks of speculation is a worry.
You said peanuts gets you monkeys. Our recruitment record disproves that. If we see Worrall as potential and value him at £4m then I have absolutely no problem with that. We’ve signed plenty of players for similarly low fees and developed them into Premier League players.

There comes a point where we can sign a CB with PL experience as cover, and we may feel that £4m is getting close to that point.

Why are you worried about something that is probably made up for a player who most fans have hardly seen play and is likely to be 3rd or 4th choice centre back ?
Even in the unlikely event it is an accurate bid the club cannot win whatever they do. Look how many fans still criticise the club (with hindsight) about spending £15m om a 3rd choice centre back.

The club need to do what they think is right in these situations - based on their track record and net spend over the last 8 years the job they have done is nothing short of remarkable.

It’s going to be difficult to sign a centre half and we’ve been bitten by spending big on a third choice. Whoever comes in will have to be happy to bide their time. I’m convinced the club expected Tarky to have moved on by now.

I think it’s more of a case of agents are linking their clients with x y and z clubs are interested in them, always seems to be the same clubs that are named as well.

Wouldn't be surprised if some of these links are to wake up other potential clubs that we wont mess about and we have other options.

Also sometimes our "way too low" bid can get the player making it known he would like to leave or at least talk, and also gives us a bigger negotiation between perceived values for either party.

We shop at the car boot with a similar approach regards purchasing, rather than going to the bright lights of the Trafford centre paying whatever the price tag says.

But anyone who's not been asleep for the last decade is aware of that and has accepted it's how we do things.

Oh that old chestnut. The past is the past. The future is something to prepare for. Assuming we already have the wages, then amortisation of say £1m a year when we have parachute payments really is peanuts. Peanuts gets you monkeys.
I would comment on that if I actually understood it

I’d stick to criticising our transfer strategy rather than trying to make financial commentary if I were you.

Short term cover at cb is fine. However, finding the next Keane or Tarks is crucial because its is pretty much odds on that Tarks will not be here this time next year at best. We would have no choice but to cash in on our best asset before he could walk the year after for a massive signing on fee. £4m for someone with that potential is penny pinching, if the story is accurate.
