Reading this thread it’s easy to spot the people who went to the supermarket to panic buy toilet roll and tinned food a few months ago.

Maybe it's time we actually utilize loans. Everton are loaning Tomori from Chelsea.

Great bit of business for both Everton and Chelsea. Just the type of player to have in your squad-and getting first team experience for Frank too

A hell of a lot of money for an unproven player in this league
And given what Sean says here....crikey we are in for a tough few weeks
"I think it's unlikely you're going to get bargain basement buys, nor should we be looking at that area, we've got to be looking at players who can at least challenge our group with immediate effect, and either mature into the side or go into it because they're very good players.

I'm more bothered about the age of our squad tbh. In 2 or 3 years time we could have a hell of a rebuilding job, probably with a new manager.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 4:03 pmIf I was a Newcastle fan Id be worried about the age of the squad with the new signings Wilson and Fraser

Not sure I’d want Ollie Watkins at £33m. Thought he scored a lot of opportunistic goals last season that won’t exist in the PL. Might be proved wrong but think Villa may have been done there.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 3:39 pmThose last two paragraphs are points well made. I am nervous now - particularly since it looks like Tarks is off & last years injuries haven’t cleared up. Had hoped we’d have learnt lessons from previous years and got at least one or two in early. Every chance selling clubs will pull our pants down as they know we need numbers/are desperate. Hoping the club bring in one or two of real quality to improve the first team. Three or Four if Tarky goes.

Have you got priveledged access to our board then? I don't know why you'd say that otherwise.

Up to FOUR quality players have you gone mad!! You don't need privileged access to know THAT ain't ever going to happen.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
No, I'm not mad. I'm just fed up of being told that Tarky has gone when he hasn't and that the board don't know what they are doing.
Presumably, if we do sell one of out better pl;ayers, then Sean would be given the funds and maybe more to bring players in? That could equate to two or three decent players at least?
Don't complain until there's something to complain about. Do you complain about a meal in a restaurant, before it's been brought to the table? Maybe you do?

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
We need AT LEAST two, possibly 3 or more if Tarks goes.
Dyche has said they need to be up to it and challenging to start
so presume he wants PL experience.
But we're nowhere near apparently.
And we will start the season without Mee, Cork and Barnes.
Dyche has also said we don't have a budget.
It all sounds a bit worrying to be honest.
Is Garlick sat on his hands and hoping we start
the season as we finished off last season?

I guess you don't follow the club very closely. Sean NEVER has a budget, but he's still brought decent players into the club in the past, and he will do again.jurek wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 9:09 pmWe need AT LEAST two, possibly 3 or more if Tarks goes.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Let's hope he does but do wonder how it actually works?
Does Dyche tell Rigg and recruitment team what players/positions he thinks
the team need and then they go out and identify one or two possibles.
Does Dyche let them know if there's anyone he really likes/wants?
And then do they approach the Chairman with their top targets
and the first question he asks is guess what?
How much are they worth or would be willing to offer?
And then the Chairman works out how much we will need to keep our
heads above water over the coming season (with reduced revenues?)
And then what?

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
There just ain't enough positives to take from the sale of Tarkowski. Clubs would be aware we have funds, we can't possibly upgrade him with a better player in that position and we'd enter the new season with a completely different centre back pairing (no Mee). Best case scenario nobody matches his valuation, and Dyche manages to work his magic on another 2 Brownhill like buys (preferably a RW and backup CB) from the championship.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
The way I read it was unless the fee is small then it's up to Garlick/Hart how much he spends. Dyche probably doesn't have input beyond initial target discussion with Rigg. When it comes to transfer fees, bids and wages it's down Rigg.
If Rigg was director of football rather than technical director he'd be the one deciding on the targets, but for us, the buck ends with Dyche. If Rigg agrees to a target with Dyche then he'll start by applying his custom football manager filter (age 30+, every position apart from CB) and search away. Once he's sorted wages bottom to top he'll start his process of opening Gmail and sending out penny pinching mails to everyone he knows in the business. This process can often take months or years.
At the end of the window Rigg gets one or two replies from agents or clubs regarding other deals that didn't go through and we settle for about our 5th or 6th target.. if we're lucky target(s). Then if we're lucky at the last minute Rigg will be approached by some disgruntled agent from a has been offering a free transfer or loan. If they fit the bill he can sign those and make it seem like he does do something after all.

Just re-read the 2018 DM article containing the prophetic statement which always provides me with a certain comfort and a reminder to enjoy the good times and not worry to much about transfer windows.
"With the spending power of others — and not just those inside the top six — Burnley cannot outrun their circumstances forever."
Also includes
This time next year, would you place a bet of significance on Bournemouth or Watford — the success stories of 2018-19 so far — not being in the bottom three?
Prophetic indeed.

Article on sky sports news that Bright Osayi-Samuel is stalling on a new QPR contract.
It states that QPR took up the option to extend his contract by 12 months before lockdown, although he can still leave now for less than £5million - or become a free agent next summer.
Seems the right age (22), the right market (Championship), the right position (winger), the right price (£5m) and the right attributes (PACE!).

Seen this article on Google yesterday
"Dwight McNeil has attracted interest from 2 premier league clubs this summer, Leicester City and Wolves. Both clubs would like the player, however Leicester are the first club to be in contact with Burnley over the player"
Reporting on Leicester forums that they've actually now put a bid of £30 million to Burnley, apparently a reliable Leicester source tweeted it. Also expected to prompt Wolves to jump in. Hope this isn't true, but a bidding war wouldn't be too bad for us I guess.
