McNeill played centrally at times towards the back end of next season. It’s not ideal by any means but we’re realistically only one player short in central midfield, and I would like to think that will be addressed by the end of the transfer window.
I know he appears quick, I had no idea he was quick enough to play centrally at the back end of next season ;)

Didn't realise we were at a point of needing to sell before we could buy? That is worrying as our squad is already too small..
Guess that explains why we haven't been busy in the market, as we lack funds.. if what Skysports are reporting is true.

With the Foxes again interested in Tarkowski this summer along with West Ham, who have already had two bids rejected, Dawson could emerge as a Burnley target. The Clarets need to sell players in order to reinvest in their squad but have so far been unable to do so

Dwight McNeil and goalkeeper Nick Pope are also players of interest to other clubs but offers are yet to emerge.

Manager Sean Dyche recently raised concerns that the club had not yet signed anyone, with their Premier League opener against Leicester to come this weekend.

It's recycled stuff though. I don't see anything new regarding McNeil and Tarky.

Anyone think that £13.4m cut in 2019/20 tv money has anything to do with transfer spend? That's Burnley's share of the £330m rebate for last season - reported in Times - spread over 2020/21 and 2021/22.

And that's just part of covid-19 lost revenue.

EDIT: Article in The Times (less the club by club table).

£330m TV rebate hits Liverpool hardest

Premier League clubs will be hit with cash reductions of between £17.3 million and £7.1 million because of the £330 million rebate for broadcasters, according to figures released in the competition’s new rulebook.

A breakdown of the expected earnings for last season is included within the Premier League’s handbook for the 2020-21 season, and the illustration includes the reduction in TV and prize money due to the rebate caused by the suspension of competition because of the coronavirus crisis.

The total will depend on where a club finishes in the league table, with champions Liverpool having the highest reduction. Each newly promoted club for this season and next season will pay £8.4 million towards the rebate, and those clubs receiving parachute payments will have reductions of between £2.3 million and £0.8 million.

Liverpool’s earnings were set to be £161.1 million, with a £17.3 million reduction (10.7 per cent) because of the rebate, according to the illustration, with bottom club Norwich having a reduction of £7.1 million on earnings of £95.2 million (7.5 per cent). However, the reductions in income will be taken off earnings from the 2020-21 season and 2021-22 season rather than last season.

Those clubs at the top have a higher percentage reduction because prize money and part of the overseas TV income is allocated based on position in the table.

What about the £14m made by finishing 10th-seven positions above 17th. You would assume our forecast at the start of last season would have been to avoid relegation, finish 17th, and every position above was a bonus

Who knows, really? Only the Board know the true financial impact, particularly given income was rising prior so hard to compare on a prior year basis. I think the only thing we can be sure about is that we will be losing some revenue, from both the TV money and the matchday income.

But we also have cash reserves and no debt, which is a credit to how the Board have run the club until now. My argument is that we should stretch ourselves and possibly even take on a small amount of low cost debt to ensure we a) keep Sean happy, b) have the players he needs to stay up over the next 2-3 years to see this storm out. Relegation while this situation is ongoing would be catastrophic for us. Don't want too many - just a couple of players capable of challenging for the first team in positions we are short.

Hoping some bargains emerge as the transfer window nears and clubs get concerned about their wage bills for the coming season, in which case, will thoroughly praise Garlick and the Board for their approach.

Indeed. I am more than a little worried. Not only because we have seen all this before and we know it all ends in disappointment with Boden being told he has been told to stand down...but because of the probable internal strife too. I will however reserve my judgement and my ire for the end of the window. yes it would be better to have had players in for the start of the season but we just don't know what might happen yet. It is inconceivable that we won't add at least a couple of first team ready players to the squad with us being so thin on depth. We can't continue to operate with several youth players on the bench that SD has shown he is not really willing to use.

Likewise, it’s very worrying.

I hate the “doing transfer business late” strategy, particularly in normal times where you could expect a PL club to be able to execute its dealings in a more urgency and order.

I’ll reserve judgement though because I can see a scenario where Championship clubs may become keener to sell as the window approaches, and PL clubs may have a few too many on on their books that they allow to leave cheaply to reduce their wage bills.

I’d obviously rather we were able to recruit what we need whilst taking the minimum risk financially, so if Garlick can pull it off, fair play.

Yes, may be that there was a bigger share of the smaller pot. I'm not sure how much of "position money" goes in bonuses to Sean Dyche and the players. I'd expect the larger part of the season's bonus will be for gaining another season in the Premier League. Based on post (somewhere on this board) about Sean Dyche having a £2.5m bonus - paid Dec/Jan - for keeping the team in the Premier League, I'd expect the same to be true for the players.

Think how much worse that will be for the Championship, League 1 and 2 teams. The further down the pyramid the worse it will get.

I think a lot of teams are going to be in very serious trouble, but in the 'Dog eat dog' world we live in, that means that there will be bargains to be had, and the later we are in the window, the more clubs will be forced to sell at lower prices.

It's not a nice situation, but Burnley (And other clubs.) could be waiting, knowing that some clubs will eventually have to sell their best players for a fraction of their worth.

Press conference. Sean, asked about Tarky.

"We have nothing relevant at the moment and we are hoping it is not.

We want to keep our best players.

I don't see why any player would leave here at this moment in time and if they did I think the numbers would need to be considerable for it to be considered."

"We have a certain group to pick from and they are motivated and any squad we pick will be with the intention of winning the game.

We’ve tried to take the cup competitions seriously, but haven’t always delivered."

That second sentence is a bit of an understatement. Let's hope it changes this time. I'd love a cup run.

They play for money, the more the happier they are. Apart from the few who play for “their” team they don’t care what shirt they wear. They tend not to live in the vicinity of their club as they are all millionaires. Quaison could quite simply see us as a stepping stone to show off his talents in the PL.

If we had made a serious bid I'd say the either selling club, agent or player would have let slip somewhere, nothing stays 100% private, even more so as we generally pay minimum fees and wages, so the club and/or agent may want to see if they can get more elsewhere.

I made a bid for messi to come and be my head chef, bid was rejected.

Nah, no one's claiming to have found life on Venus, just something in the atmosphere that could possibly support life in theory.
In response to the possibility of life on Venus, Burnley have decided to add Max Burn to their recruitment team.

Burny used to be a Barista with Starbucks and despite having no technical scouting experience the plan is for him to identify players and possibly make a valuable contribution in the next 10 to 20 years. Sources say that this is a long term strategic move to get ahead of the planetary arc.

A release clause is just that, a release clause and yet again we play silly games (potentially putting off the other party to do business with us at all)

It also gets the player out into the media identifying their worth to other clubs
